Not guilty to all four accused, all unanimous decisions.

What pisses me off, and I think it should be banned, is the accused are allowed to speak to press afterwards about their relief at being found innocent. They weren't. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

would "not proven" be useful in such cases, I wonder.

Not much has changed since the fifties for women who are sexually assaulted or gang raped. Unless we are beaten unconscious or killed by a strange man it is not considered by society to be "real rape rape".

Yes, there is clearly little appetite where it is needed to change how rape trials are handled, but a simple change of wording from "not guilty" to "not proven" would go a very, very long way to tackling all those nasty "women are liars" allegations each time the evidence doesn't quite make it beyond reasonable doubt.

I have 2 young dd and this just depresses the shit out of me. I also don't feel like dh totally gets it.

People can show support and solidarity for the victim. The victim can take a civil case against her assailants. And I hope that these things happen.

You do not know that. All you know is that a jury found them not guilty.

Give it two weeks and it will be all forgotten. Ulster Rugby will stand by them and maybe raise a glass or two to the former accused who are now not guilty.
