The Sun transwedding headline

How is it that I find myself agreeing with The Sun?!
Has it really come to this?

People being outraged at the headline with comments like 'why not just say man weds woman' and leave it at that' when obvsly the only reason for the headline & focus on this couple is the trans angle. Cue hurt tweets from happy couple saying 'I've always been a man/woman etc'.

Tran and wife?

The Sun living up to its usual bigotry.
They don't give a shit about trans people.
They don't give a shit about women.
They don't give a shit about many groups.

I find the headline interesting and wonder which of the couple the Sun perceive as 'man' and which as 'trans'. Do they accept Jake as a man and are describing Hannah as trans or do they consider her trans and reject Jake as male. Just interesting to see if they are subscribing more to a not man = woman or looks like a man = a man sort of idea. Or perhaps man and trans just sounded funny and they don't really see either of them as the sex they present as.

Both individuals are activists and they chose to appear in the Sun so I don't feel incredibly sorry for them, although I think they were ill advised in their choice of outlet. I suspect they were expecting their wedding to be part of the pro-trans narrative and I am sure that they will also have received a huge amount of affirmation from Mermaids and affiliated organisations. I consider Mermaids to be a harmful organisation and they are it's patrons so I don't see them as innocents in this cultural battle.

agender, exactly right. The Sun have a bad record with trans stories but this was no thought out strategy to make a point. Headline writers on that paper earn their corn from coming up with pun laden headlines - Stick it up your junta, Ant and Dock, this was just one more chosen entirely because man and tran rhymes.

They do not care about the impact of creating this as a lasting memory of a wedding but it was not done for any political reason or malice and just because it looked clever to someone bored and playing with words who probably never gave a thought beyond how clever they were. Even though they distort the English language to do so - that could almost be the motto of The Sun.

I have just watched the bit about Jake Graf and Hannah Winterborne getting married, starts at 1 hour 49 minutes in.

It is actually very moving and I am very much supportive of them finding happiness together.
