FFS. Flagged at work for gender critical views

It's happening.

I'm new in a private sector company. My personal twitter doesn't mention my employer. I've apparently been flagged as 'high risk' for my gender critical views (linking to articles, carefully worded, no abusive language obviously) on my twitter feed. Boss is sympathetic but has told me to be very careful and to not ever mention at work.

We are being silenced for holding perfect legitimate pro-women views and concerns. I'm fuming and scared - both for my job and for women.

Well, can’t we all protect ourselves by declaring ourselves to be trans because we eg wear trousers? Where does this madness end?

OldCrone · 26/03/2018 19:09

Transgendertrend website has been down since last night.

Sorry to hear this OP.

I’ve recently applied for a job at a university that I am well qualified to do with all the right experience. I had very high hopes.

I’m FB friends with someone who works there who I think is a total libfem. She’d have been involved in the recruiting process.

I was advised today I haven’t even been short listed. Without being too outing, I had a v strong application and am amazed I didn’t even get an interview.

I’ve got a strong instinct it’s down to my GC views on FB that said woman will have disapproved of.

I am very, very worried that women are now being policed for thought crime.

I read Timothy Snyder's "On Tyranny" last year, thinking about the rise of the far right. But now I think about it in relation to this issue.

When we were campaiging for gay marriage to become legal, back in the day, I don't recall ever being urged to dox or harrass anyone who was campaiging against it, or anyone thinking that was remotely OK in any way. We just nodded and smiled, said "I don't agree with your opinion" (and maybe called them awful bigots amonst ourselves). We didn't try to get them fired from their livelihoods.

Shameful.

"In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

We are being asked to accept that transgender identified individuals are not mentally ill but need to have medical care and public accommodation for their condition.
The problem with this unrealistic expectation is fairly obvious.

thebewilderness · 26/03/2018 21:04

On tumblr there is an entire guilt by association thought police force that informs women that they have reblogged a post from a "TERF" or "transphobe" and failure to delete it means that you are complicit in the murder of transgender identified males the world over.

Shock

Bloody hell! I keep thinking I'm beyond being shocked by how insane things are becoming... Thank god for MN so we can support each other.

OlennasWimple · 26/03/2018 21:15

This is seriously scary shit

MrsJoshDun · 26/03/2018 21:18

@sarahjconnor. Jesus, I remember that thread.....it was not transphobic. Can’t believe the police investigated!

But you’d have thought they’d take one look at the post and see it wasn’t transphobic and say no crime had been committed. Why waste time and money talking to you, etc?

Elletorro · 26/03/2018 22:15

Hi OP

Please join a Union. It takes 6 months to get legal assistance.

I think you are being discriminated against for your beliefs. That direct discrimination and the company has no defence. You won’t want to bring a claim in your probation period I would imagine but please know you are in a position of power here.

I’m not sure if there’s not also a sex discrimination claim there too. Again direct discrimination and again they have no defence

Take heart.

I’m on my holidays soon but back mid April and may be able to assist. Have a think what outcome you would like. I think you are in a stronger position than you realise

@CapnHaddock

That's a rather poignant article.

I work in the area of dementia and I can see how that would be incredibly distressing to someone who has transitioned, especially surgically.

It's setting the health services (and those who access them) up for a tidal wave of misery and confusion in future years Sad

Leaving this here for anyone reading James Kirkup’s excellent article on concerns over self ID.
