FFS. Flagged at work for gender critical views

It's happening.

I'm new in a private sector company. My personal twitter doesn't mention my employer. I've apparently been flagged as 'high risk' for my gender critical views (linking to articles, carefully worded, no abusive language obviously) on my twitter feed. Boss is sympathetic but has told me to be very careful and to not ever mention at work.

We are being silenced for holding perfect legitimate pro-women views and concerns. I'm fuming and scared - both for my job and for women.

last time i filled in an ESTA form there was a field asking for your social media details...

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:44

I think it may be more about making links with people / organisations / positions which have been / are more easily accused of 'hate speech' / transphobia. There are a number of very active twitter accounts which have been collecting, manipulating and distributing 'evidence'

LadyinCement · 26/03/2018 14:45

This is really quite horrifying. I can honestly see how a population becomes cowed and, in due course, how some people feel it is a good thing to denounce enemies of what is the approved line. It’s as if there are Stasi-style spies stationed at their computers. Perhaps even our dcs will be encouraged to blow the whistle on their bigoted mothers once the trans agenda gets embedded in schools.

DairyisClosed · 26/03/2018 14:46

Well it's a bit late in the day. This kind of censure has been going on for years involving people with other controversial beliefs. We have an entire generation of double thinking pseudo liberals to deal with. The best you can do is try to teach your children that freedom of expression is the most valuable thing in the world and hope they do more to protect it than their predecessors.

AmoraObscura · 26/03/2018 14:46

Anything that doesn't accept men as women in any way is deemed transphobic.

Jux · 26/03/2018 14:47

This strikes me as being a bit like that time when the Creationists were trying to take over. Luckily, science won out, mostly. Sadly, this time it seems science is losing.

Can you claim that you are being oppressed - as woman, as a believer is Science?

LadyinCement · 26/03/2018 14:48

There was a thread last week where a poster who said they were in personnel said they would fire and have fired people for transphobic views on social media, and they confirmed that this included posting on MN threads...

nipersvest · 26/03/2018 14:48

yes, there is a question about social media on the ESTA form but at the moment, it's optional to complete it not mandatory, but suspect it will be one day soon.

vicviking · 26/03/2018 14:50

But what did these people post? How did they define transphobia?

MagneticMan · 26/03/2018 14:51

Just looked at the KilgoreSprout account and apparently #ManFriday is a "Terf hate group" (except, it's not).

Aren't gender critical people more likely to be females.
If your work is targeting you because of GC views then does this constitute sex discrimination?

vicviking · 26/03/2018 14:51

Personnel would spend alot of time in industrial tribunals if they were sacking people who stated biological facts.

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 14:52

Manipulation by social media is under the spotlight... hopefully this is one of the next areas thoroughly investigated and soon to be exposed. I believe it warrants it....

vicviking · 26/03/2018 14:53

Yup Andrew Gilligan - over here...

Fair enough. Being trans is a protected characteristic (see gov.uk). But being critical of self-ID is another matter entirely.

Agree with Senua. Attacking trans people is wrong but being gender critical or arguing against self ID surely is a right.

PlectrumElectrum · 26/03/2018 14:59

There's no alert or follow system - only if your are @ into a post you'll know if your u have been mentioned.

holycheeseplant · 26/03/2018 15:00

I'm sorry this has happened to you thinking.

I must say I first read things here on mn and NC when I started posting as I'd read about the doxxing.

I am a recent newcomer to twitter and have created 2 accounts; one mainly for work related interests or mundane life things and one for anything remotely GC.

I name change regularly here too when posting about anything remotely GC.

It's astonishing we have to - but as a woman I've learnt my whole life to take care around anything that might put me into danger at the hand of men. I'm conditioned to do so.

Daff0dil · 26/03/2018 15:03

I think the wider and important issue at this point is how some TRA are operating. People who are transgender are just as vulnerable to their tactics as those who are being silenced.

LadyinCement · 26/03/2018 15:05

Of course, nastiness about trans people per se is wrong, but one gets the feeling that simply being on a thread discussing the issues - particularly regarding self ID - is going to ensure one’s card is marked.

holycheeseplant · 26/03/2018 15:07

Wow Sarah, that's crazy. But glad the Police saw sense.
