Deaths of women and transwomen (may be distressing)

I know I shouldn't be, but I'm incandescent about this tweet from our favourite women's officer Angry

It hopefully goes without saying that any murder is a serious issue, and no-one deserves to die because of who they are. The apparent murder of this transwoman in London is appalling, and should obviously be condemned.

But. But, but but...

LM blames "transphobes and the media" for "stirring up moral panics" about transwomen. So obviously the MAN who has been arrested for her murder is not to blame, it's the nasty TERFs....

And there is jack shit on LM's Twitter feed about the WOMEN who have been murdered in London recently. A Google search for "women killed in London 2018" brings up:

A woman found dead in Twickenham and her husband and children found dead in E Sussex

A woman stabbed to death in Camden

The sentencing of a man who raped and murdered his niece and attempted to murder another woman last year

The arrest of a man suspected of murdering a 22 year old woman who went missing on Christmas Eve

A woman who was stabbed to death on a steet in Redbridge in early January

The finding of remains believed to be a woman who disappeared from London, presumed murder, six years ago

A woman who was murdered in her home in January this year

And that is just from the first three pages of search results.

Where was LM's outrage about these horrific crimes? Where were the accusations of bigotry? Were they not terrifying too?

Angry Angry Angry

I read that and thought the same.

LM says how personally scary that murder is. Well, with the number of women who are regularly being murdered that means that every female on the planet needs to be in a permanent state of terror.

LM knows nothing. It's clear LM does not identify with women

NotTerfNorCis · 25/03/2018 00:27

There was a spate of unconnected killings in London in the space of one week, 8 in all, mostly stabbings. All were reported in the mainstream press. We don't know the details of this one yet. It's a tragedy as they all are, but there is no evidence as yet that it was even a transphobic attack, let alone related to feminist campaigning.

toomanyeggs · 25/03/2018 00:42

So obviously the MAN who has been arrested for her murder is not to blame, it's the nasty TERFs.... But it's never the mans fault!! (sarcasm)

The trans community only cares when it's a TIM. Which is hypocrisy really...

Datun · 25/03/2018 00:46

Even including that unfortunate death, there are still more transwomen murderers in this country that have been murdered.

So if LM really has to talk about panic, they are talking about it in the wrong direction.

thebewilderness · 25/03/2018 03:31

I just mentioned this on the other murder thread.
1st rule of misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do.

QuentinSummers · 25/03/2018 06:33

I agree olennas
I think unfortunately all the women who are murdered are just background noise to Lily (and probably lots of other people too)

It is not at all clear what the circs of the murder are. I am willing to have a large bet with Lily that feminists have absolutely nothing to do with it tho

swivelchair · 25/03/2018 07:08

I was under the impression that this was an intimate partner murder, rather than because the victim (Naomi I think) was trans - I certainly doubt that the 24 year old man charged with the murder spent any time reading radfem tweets.

lovetheway · 25/03/2018 08:05

Gosh, it's almost like women are right when they say that men are dangerous and domestic violence exists Angry.
Identify as a woman, get murdered like a woman.....

SusanBunch · 25/03/2018 08:20

This blatantly was no random attack on a trans woman. The victim obviously knew the suspect and seriously doubt that being trans was a motivation. Also, if over 100 women are murdered a year, why doesn’t Lily think that is a sustained campaign but thinks 1 murder of a trans person is?

Collidascope · 25/03/2018 08:28

Also nice to see narcissism alive and well in the comments. "I'm moving to London soon!" Like those people who say "oh my god, I was nearly in London that day! It could have been me!" after a terrorist attack.

Atthebottomofthesea · 25/03/2018 08:35

I read it last night and was horrified by the response. Instead of just commenting how dreadful it is it was used as a score pointing exercise.

Young men are most likely to be victims of knife crime, women are killed around the world every single day for just being female, yet just cheap point scoring. Not a single word of sympathy just jumping to probably very far fetched conclusions, yet it is the 'terfs' who are accused of stirring up hatred.

Sympathies to the family and friends of N.

bellasuewow · 25/03/2018 10:32

Lovetheway* very very good point

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 10:46

L Madigan should keep up the tweets like that as the more there are, the more Madigan digs h** political grave.

PencilsInSpace · 25/03/2018 11:23

Jane Fae getting in on the act too twitter.com/JaneFae/status/977520480272908288 Disgraceful behaviour Angry

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 25/03/2018 11:52

I tell you what and I don’t know about you, when I go out a-murdering I always listen to Radio 4 first to see who to target.
Hmm
Male violence will never be tackled whilst this constant trans rights over women’s rights agenda is pushed.

LangCleg · 25/03/2018 12:04

Yes, I think Jane Fae got in first and Lily, as ever, was jumping on the bandwagon.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with this horrible murder. Additionally, a 17-year-old girl has been charged with aiding an offender. The victim was out as trans. It seems, as said above, they were all known to each other. So unlikely to be a transphobic hate crime.

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 12:15

As others have said, I don't see Madigan and Fae weeping and wailing and rending garments about crimes committed against women.

If you want an ally, be an ally.

Atthebottomofthesea · 25/03/2018 12:16

I am even more cross now that I have read the JF tweet. How dare they use the murder of someone as a means to score cheap points. Do they really think that this is just being ignored because the victim is trans? Do they really think every woman murdered has full media coverage?

Someone has died and all they can do is make it about 'me, me, me'

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 25/03/2018 12:21

One could even think that Lily & Jane actually welcome the opportunity that Niami’s Death brings for their advancement of the perpetual pissing competition they are in.
The fact the Jane said we were ‘self obsessed’ in her tweet would be laughable if I wasn’t truly shocked by how unreflective they actually are.

Madigan has blocked me.

HerFemaleness · 25/03/2018 12:27

@beerin, all their accusations are in fact admissions of their own motivations.

yetanothertranswoman · 25/03/2018 12:34

Do they really think every woman murdered has full media coverage

That's true - I think there were 3 or 4 murders of women just in one week a few weeks ago in a week and there was little coverage.

I think there were also other murders of men and children (stabbings) that get very little coverage - especially in places where such events are more common. 26 knife deaths this year - 6 teenagers and many from the black community. Mainly in London

NotTerfNorCis · 25/03/2018 12:36

Lily and Jane both claim the media ignored Hersi Hersi's murder. It's a lie:

BBC

Daily Mail

Evening Standard

Get West London

Attitude

The Sun

Strangely I couldn't find it in the Guardian.

LonginesPrime · 25/03/2018 12:44

I read it last night and was horrified by the response. Instead of just commenting how dreadful it is it was used as a score pointing exercise.

I thought the LM tweet was awful too - it's not like this was a historical crime stat, this is a person who has just died and whose family and friends are still grieving.

I thought it was terrible not to offer condolences or even acknowledge that this was an actual human being who died, but instead to say 'someone died and it made me feel really scared for myself'.

Completely clueless.

TerfsUp · 25/03/2018 12:46

That is odd, NotTerfNorCis. This is the story that is exactly in their wheelhouse.

Mumsnut · 25/03/2018 13:26

This murder was an example of male violence.

Fear of male violence is the reason for the Man Friday movement.
