This is the petition.

There is a proposal (currently supported by all the main political parties) to make legally changing sex a matter of ‘self-identification’. At present it requires living as the opposite gender for 2 years and some form of medical consultation (although no treatment/surgery is required).

We are concerned that (in no particular order)

This will lead to women not being able to challenge men in their spaces.
People with male bodies on hospital wards with women.
Women’s sport being taken over by people with male bodies.
Rapists being housed in women’s prisons.
Data on crime, gender pay, health becoming less meaningful.

I know there are other threads on this but I wanted to create one with a clear title for when it appears in Active Threads.

I don’t think ‘the self id petition is now live’ is clear enough to make someone not familiar with the issue click the link.

Signed already but the more people who see this the better.

Once thread is opened - can say the bit about consultation - and pressure at universities and schools etc. and that a politically correct mindset is in danger of wiping out hard won women's rights and freedoms.

Maybe start a new thread with shorter title - for benefit of people who don't have a clue we're not actually haters as Momentum style people are portraying.

I commend you by the way, not criticising, we want to bring to as many people as possible and want them to grasp it quickly.

I agree about a shorter title but I think it should include something about consulting with women - which is all the petition is asking for.

My suggestion would be, 'Do you believe women should be consulted about laws that will affect them?'

Me neither! But I'm thinking about my own mindset only a year ago. A title referencing men in changing rooms, for example, might well have grabbed my attention then but, to be honest, I would have dismissed it as scare mongering and probably not even opened it.

Yes fair point. Somewhere in the middle to be found I expect.

I guess give it a go maybe with my suggestion if the OP likes it, then next thread _ as we will be carrying on - have title that doesn't scare the people off that are worrying scare mongering etc.

Hard road to navigate when the loudest voices are those on the TV and on the other side of the argument saying we are phobics.
