If so, see you there!

Do you think it'll be mobbed by TRAs as the venue's been announced in advance or not because of the security at the HOC?

That hash tag #waronwomen does seems to be generating lots of tweets!

OvaHere · 14/03/2018 21:27

The hashtag also seems to be in use for other things too which probably helps us get more exposure.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 21:33

he said see you en tee!

And i got a hug from magdalen Grin

‘‘twas BRILLIANT!!

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 21:35

Someone tweeted something suggesting David Davies was the only MP to attend? Can anyone say if that's correct?

AntiGrinch · 14/03/2018 21:49

yay! go you lot! More news please, keep it coming

newtlover · 14/03/2018 21:52

please tell me there were some other MPs

ArcheryAnnie · 14/03/2018 21:55

I'd be very surprised if MPs did attend, as it's such short notice. (That's not a comment on the value of the meeting, which is fantastic, just a comment on how early you have to get into an MP's diary, for the most part.)

letsgetserious · 14/03/2018 21:58

Hmm. Some of them must surely have a free evening from time to time.

On another note, how does the lobbying work? I always thought that meant shmoozing (sp?!) with MPs and courting them over a long period of time but it doesn't sound like that in this case?

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 21:59

I don't know if there were other MPs there.

There were a lot of rowdy, amazing, courageous, funny and fabulous women though!

The point wasn't necessarily to get MPs there (I don't think).

The event wouldn't have gone ahead had Venice Allen not managed to persuade David Davies to host it there. MPs attending would have been a bonus, and some women used the opportunity to try to lobby their MPs, but the main point was just to have the meeting.

MrsJoJo86 · 14/03/2018 22:02

Has anyone ever scrolled down through the posts on MFC and thought 'shit, we've gone insane'?

DNAnotGRA · 14/03/2018 22:04

Keep up the pressure, common sense will prevail in the end!

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 22:04

Posie Parker made an amazing speech that got a standing ovation about her awful experience with the police for her "hate crime". She was actually really upbeat about it.

Sheila Jeffreys was hilarious, as were Julia Long and Anne Ruzylo. Sheila talked about how recent a phenomenen transgenderism is, which was really interesting. She showed some bloody awful slides about wearable faux camel toes which I can't bleach out of my mind!

Julia Long talked about the power and control circle (the Duluth Model I think?), and how closely the experience of women's interaction with transactivists models that, which was pretty terrifying.

Anne Ruzylo talked about her experiences of being a gender non conforming child and how stats are being manipulated.

And David Davies shared how the Equalities officer at the house called him a cunt for his support of women and got a standing ovation for having the balls to help host the meeting, and for just stating the simple fact "We all believe in free speech".

It was FAB. roll on the next one!

OvaHere · 14/03/2018 22:05

I hope a few did pop in even if it was just to hear the other side. Most likely they won't have wanted to risk being photographed or mentioned as attending due to the dragging they will inevitably get via social media.

The whole debate (or lack of it) has really shown how little backbone so many MPs have because I don't believe that many of them who parrot the woke nonsense really believe what they are saying.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 22:09

The panel said that both Millwall and the HoC staff report that the barrage of harrasment and abuse they got for hosting or potentially hosting the meeting was unprecedented.

Millwall Football club, FFS! Millwall! Think it's too dangerous to let a panel of middle-aged lesbian feminists talk!

Tell me again who is being silenced and erased here, h'mm?

womanhuman · 14/03/2018 22:13

Was it recorded Sophocles?

letsgetserious · 14/03/2018 22:14

I get that getting MPs there wasn't it's aim but it would have been nice if one or two could have popped in. I also get that they feel intimidated but you'd think one or two might brave it! A part from DD who's actions I'm obviously very grateful for in this case.

letsgetserious · 14/03/2018 22:18

You wonder how many voices all of these TRAs have. Presumably the non-binary people have multiple legitimate voices in addition to all the others they put on for the purposes of harassment and intimidation.

2rebecca · 14/03/2018 22:25

Really glad it went well, hope they all get home safely. Well done all.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/03/2018 22:26

Don't think so woman - there were issues with getting the mics working so the panel could be heard, so probably not. But not sure.

I know letsget, it would have been nice to have MPs, given where we were. And there may well have been, who knows? I wouldn't recognise the majority of MPs and wasn't sitting near a door to see if there were poppers-in.

letsgetserious · 14/03/2018 22:27

Fingers crossed a few made it along - looking forward to further updates from all the fantastic women who made the effort to be there!

LongWeek · 14/03/2018 22:44

Quick comment on MPs popping in- I manage an MPs diary. The next free evening he has in Westminster is after the April recess (ie after Easter)
24-48 hours notice makes chance of them being able to go very unlikely.

MPs get invited to hundreds of events each week- they are busy people!

LangCleg · 14/03/2018 22:48

Julia Long talked about the power and control circle (the Duluth Model I think?), and how closely the experience of women's interaction with transactivists models that, which was pretty terrifying.

The Duluth wheel should be mentioned at every possible opportunity. Not only does it draw the parallel between TRAs and the MO of domestic abusers, it's also accurate about gender - which is a coercively imposed system of power relationships and not some non-dysphoric idiot's ladyfeelz.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 14/03/2018 22:51

How many people were at the meeting roughly?

rowdywoman1 · 14/03/2018 23:03

The Duluth Wheel - as mentioned upthread.
