Hi @wukawear I’d like an apology for the fact I had a man standing at your stall talk AT me about my period flow and call me a ‘menstruater’. I’m a woman, not a ‘menstruater’. Made me feel so uncomfortable and was hugely offensive #WOWLDN

Hi. I was the ‘man’ at wow. My apologies if you felt I spoke AT you, that wasn’t my intention. If you or anyone else finds the term menstruator offensive we can hear that and make changes, it’s the first time we have had this feedback. I’m an ally, so is our female founder.

Why are they calling 'Period' instead of 'a period/periods/your period'? Bizarre.

AngstySpanksey · 13/03/2018 20:39

I saw this! I’d have been fuming as well. Well, I for one won’t be using their products. I’m a woman not a bloody menustrator.

MarSeeAh · 13/03/2018 20:39

And this is their sales pitch!

AngryAttackKittens · 13/03/2018 20:40

So they don't believe in biology OR spelling, based on the deleted Twitter comments.

I'll continue to give my money to companies that don't actively insult me, thanks.

gassylady · 13/03/2018 20:41

But the pants have a unisex fit to allow for all sorts of menstruators!

maladroit · 13/03/2018 20:47

I saw this unfolding on Twitter earlier, and it was quite hilarious and infuriating in equalmeasure. The ultimate mansplainer.

"The best moment of #WOWLDN was when the co-founder of @wukawear (yes, a man) was explaining about Period to another man about how the WUKA works.
#proudmoment #genderequality #menshouldtalkaboutperiod".

In the absence of them declaring whether these men are male, I am going to assume they are indeed male men (non-menstruators? Ejaculators, like some responses suggested?). So of course the best moment of a festival of women was two men having a chat about periods. They couldn't listen to, I don't know, someone who might actually have experience of periods.

And yes I didn't notice them repeatedly just calling it "period", not "a period". How utterly bizarre. Is it a troll?

maladroit · 13/03/2018 21:02

There's some pretty funny live backtracking going on Twitter at the moment. "We have apologised for using the word menstruator. We are looking into updating the wording we use, this has only come up today, so it takes time to change marketing materials."

They also use the hideous, hideous word "panties", so I'm out, regardless of what they call people who bleed from their vaginas.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/03/2018 21:07

Is English not that person's first language? That's what I thought when I saw the comments. Well, after I thought 'Fuck, that's a PR carcrash.'

Yambabe · 13/03/2018 21:12

It reads to me more as someone for whom English isn't their first language?

I'm still Shock at them saying not only women have periods though!

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 13/03/2018 21:16

Yes Certain. Lack of articles (the, a, an) is a giveaway for speakers of Slavonic languages.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/03/2018 21:17

Yes. I can't decide whether I like that or the idea that two men discussing 'Period' is the highlight of WOW more...

Iminthecclubnow · 13/03/2018 21:18

This is now the pinned tweet on WUKA's twitter page.

WUKA Period Wear refers to women as 'menstruators, women not Happy.
maladroit · 13/03/2018 21:19

He completely non-ironically introduces his points with "As a man..." at least twice.

I think their marketing person/any sane colleague must be on holiday today. They do refer to women and girls earlier in the Twitter timeline.

LostArt · 13/03/2018 21:19

Period panties for menstruators. Who would have thought that would appeal to their target audience.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 13/03/2018 21:22

Sorry - X post. Yes I thought non-European language.

I think it's Dave who has caused the bother. Not #femalefounder. But I assume she'll mop up for him...

"I can't believe you women would be such meanies to my fluffy-wuffy women's company". So you're quite happy to say "women" when it's to scold them for being critical of you. Hm.

NSEA · 13/03/2018 21:28

Do men who menstrate mind being called a menstruator, I wonder.

TheMonstrousRegiment · 13/03/2018 21:28

Absolute madness! Honestly, what woman would purchase from them after this?

Hope they can sustain their business off of the non-biological women they are pitching their 'inclusive' sales talk towards.

Menstruators FFS! Just like that lovely term of non-prostate ownersAngry

Lovesagin · 13/03/2018 21:34

I actually genuinely was interested in these, this thread made me look at their site, never heard of them before, thought they sounded brilliant. Until I saw they describe them as "unisex design".

LostArt · 13/03/2018 21:43

There are other brands available. I think even Boots sell a version. You don't have to buy unisex panties. Shock

PositivelyPERF · 13/03/2018 21:44

Until I saw they describe them as "unisex design" In other words women. They really are thick, aren’t they?

Her0utdoors · 13/03/2018 21:46

It's not good is it? I joined the 'Put a Cup In It's Facebook group, all about menstruators and you're not allowed to start your posts with gendered greatings eg: 'hey ladies'/ ' because we're all woman here I can ask this' etc ( but some how 'hey guys' gets past the moderation...). And don't get me started on the period tracking app that's for menstruators ' because periods don't discriminate'.
