Relevant section:

Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

Going by Gilligan's twitter feed, I think the Times are on the brink of a new sex scandal.

ChattyLion · 11/03/2018 10:37

Holy crap. I am confused about the legal position here, how could this possibly be a legally proportionate response?

LittleLebowski · 11/03/2018 10:38

Hi Posie Flowers
This really is Orwellian bullshit now, I couldn't believe it when I saw the thread this morning.
I too am willing to contribute to any legal costs. Women's rights and free speech? I totally refuse to see this country go down the path of pronoun Gestapo bollocks.

Patodp · 11/03/2018 10:41

I am with you posieparker

RedToothBrush · 11/03/2018 10:41

I will give money to stop myself being criminalised and to ensure that families have the freedom to deal with issues.

SandyDrawsBadly · 11/03/2018 10:46

Fae is of the ilk who believes that misgendering is LITERAL VIOLENCE, so hardly the arbiter of actual events.

Iminthecclubnow · 11/03/2018 10:46

They have made death threats - or at very least, expressed in no uncertain terms the wish that someone would kill themselves.

Oh for gods sake, is this still referring to Venice Allen's 'I think this dickhead is going to fake a suicide' thing about Lily Madigan? That is the only thing I have seen where a someone has discussed suicide in relation to a trans person in this way, and it keeps being used as an accusation of 'wishing someone would commit suicide'. It wasn't a nice thing to say, absolutely not, but in the climate of 'die TERF scum' it barely registers. Again language is being twisted to change its meaning, but that seems to be a strategy of TRAs.

Also, interesting: 'They have made death threats, or at the very least....' so not really anything like death threats then.

Absolutely sick of this total bullshit.

rowdywoman1 · 11/03/2018 10:48

Is Jane Fae one of the members of the WEP who made the allegations against Heather Brunskill Evans? And is a spokesperson for Mermaids?

If so, I can see why the WEP are in the mess that they're in.

thecatfromjapan · 11/03/2018 10:51

Good luck Posie.

Datun · 11/03/2018 10:51

Same here.

They are being exposed and they know it. If there was nothing to hide, why not debate in public?

Feminists relentlessly debate in public about this. They get targeted every time they do it. But feminists have nothing to hide, so they keep going.

These people are so dim.

I strongly suspect they don't really care about the issue, as such. They just like exercising their 'dominance'.

daddyorchipz · 11/03/2018 10:51

Have been watching these threads with increasing horror for several weeks. Signed up today to join the offers of support for Posie. Brave new world indeed......

Amethyst975 · 11/03/2018 10:53

Posie

Brave, brave woman!!! I also am happy to contribute to a crowdfunder for legal costs, should it be necessary.

This is absolutely horrifying.

HawkeyeInConfusion · 11/03/2018 10:54

Can anyone link to Gilligan's twitter feed please?

BahHumbygge · 11/03/2018 10:55

Oh heck Posie, remember you mentioning the forthcoming interview in Bristol. Sorry it's taken such a chilling orwellian turn. Happy to contribute £ in due course, winging you some fortitute & solidarity for now Flowers

therealposieparker · 11/03/2018 10:57

Thanks all. x

TruScum · 11/03/2018 10:59

I find myself increasingly without the words to describe this encroaching horror.

I feel like we are in the flashback opening scene to a horror movie where officially women no longer exist, free thought is criminal and the truth is unacceptable.

I too pledge to support (financially and in any way I can) any court cases that arise because of this Orwellian dreamscape we find ourselves in.

I don’t wish the stress and pressure on anyone but I must admit I believe we need court cases. We need this ideology to enter the cold light of day.

redshoeblueshoe · 11/03/2018 11:00

There are some police on MN, I'd be interested to hear what they have to say about this

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/03/2018 11:02

twitter.com/search?q=mragilligan&src=typd

This is a search for Gilligan's tweets, rather than his TL, so you can see all the tweets.

UpstartCrow · 11/03/2018 11:02

TruScum I agree with you about the court cases, but at the same time things have got so weird and stupid, I'm scared they might actually win. I feel like I woke up in a dystopian future.

HairyBallTheorem · 11/03/2018 11:04

I too will donate should you need it Posie - hopefully you won't need to but should the worst happen you'll have this thread as a record of who to PM.

Izzy24 · 11/03/2018 11:10

So we can keep track on women and prevent them leaving the country because of an opinion? We have the resources to do that?

But the constant non-presence of law agencies when actual crimes are being committed continues.

I haven’t read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been said.

Placemarking really so I can come back to this.

TruScum · 11/03/2018 11:14

I am terrified of that UpstartCrow but I have faith in the public. And a decent lawyer should be able to wipe the floor with anyone spouting this inane claptrap (I hope),

Once faced with the facts and unfairness of what is going on the vast majority of ordinary people (at least of those I’ve spoken to) ‘peak’.

Badgerthebodger · 11/03/2018 11:20

Bloody hell. I can hardly believe what I’m reading; woman attacked on a picket line, Posie being warned not to leave the country Shock just what the fucking fuck! Posie I will support with funds and whatever else you need. I’m appalled.

MisDescamisados · 11/03/2018 11:31

Ahem , the woman in question - under threat of arrest - did NOT “express an opinion “ , she stated a fact about a surgical procedure , procured abroad by a minor’s parent , carried out on said minor .

What she did opine on , was that this could be seen as abusive , and that the aforementioned parent - in an official capacity - could be seen as encouraging this.

Again , all in the public domain , and said before .

Which is why it’s more terrifying . Because it’s facts and common sentiment based on said , and the police (incidentally the same force embroiled in the Mesmac scandal ) are being weaponised against a woman simply for repeating them .

MisDescamisados · 11/03/2018 11:33

If anyine wasn’t clear about it , just in case . Sure you all are XXX
