Relevant section:

Meanwhile, a woman who criticised a transgender charity on Twitter has been questioned under caution by police and told she will be arrested if she tries to leave the country. Kellie-Jay Keen- Minshull accused the group Mermaids of “suppressing free speech”.

She had accused Mermaids, which calls for children to be allowed irreversible sex-change treatment the NHS currently prohibits, of “prey[ing]” on gay teenagers and of “mass child abuse”. Mermaids declined to comment.

Surely you are allowed an opinion on Twitter?

Mermaids must get literally hundreds of tweets saying they are being abusive. Because in many people's opinion they are.

Fairyflaps · 11/03/2018 08:59

West Yorkshire Police were quite tight with Jimmy Saville if I recall.

Datun · 11/03/2018 08:59

Are you allowed to say exactly what you've been accused of?

Datun · 11/03/2018 09:00

I mean, what they are saying you have said.

Kokeshi123 · 11/03/2018 09:01

threalposieparker, what can everyone here do for you? Would a Twitter storm help or hinder your situation? Stay safe.

TheXXFactor · 11/03/2018 09:02

It's terrifying. I have started a thread on AIBU - I know I'll get lots of complaints about 'another trans thread', but women have a right to know what's happening.

TERFragetteCity · 11/03/2018 09:02

I think convincing children that they should start a course of action that directly leads to sterilisation is abuse.

It is. You are right.

Fucking hell.

CurbsideProphet · 11/03/2018 09:04

Christ. I feel like I'm reading the plot to a Margaret Atwood novel Shock

How is calling a biological man, 'Mr' a hate crime? Who passed this decree?

Putyourdamnshoeson · 11/03/2018 09:07

Nothing Kellie said on Twitter is untrue. It's all fact, readily available in the public domain and reasonable opinion. What's more, she is by no means the only one to say it.
Mermaids are a dangerous organisation, like any charity where one individual grips it the way SG does. She knows that what she did was illegal and immoral. Fro the content of her TED talk, she was terrified of having a gay son. She NEEDS Nermaids to be respected in order to validate her actions. Its dangerous.
I pity her children and wonder about how her now ex husband feels about all of this.

Posie
Can we help with your legal costs? Please?!

HermioneWeasley · 11/03/2018 09:09

posie

Another one here who would love to help. I can’t believe expressing an opinion has resulted in police interviews.

Can we write to the chief inspector? Do a FOI request on th cost of investigating your tweets? Ask to know how many other twitter accounts have received this attention by them?

It’s so fucking sinister

therealposieparker · 11/03/2018 09:10

I don't know if there's anything that can be done! I'm a test case. The law needs testing and as a woman without a career to lose I'm willing to be that test!!
I stand by everything I say on twitter, it's not nice and twee and often far too sweary but
I refuse to say men can become women,
I refuse to say nothing about the terrible abuses to kids specifically lesbian teens,
I refuse to not speak up for lesbians who have been victims of the trans assault for some time,
I will not allow women's rights to be eroded,
And I will not allow a group of parents and transwomen so invested in the transing of kids misinform the public and trick kids into thinking they can change sex.

therealposieparker · 11/03/2018 09:11

Legal costs may come in if I'm charged. But as yet they're still deciding. I will of course come begging!!

CAAKE · 11/03/2018 09:13

Beg away on here when the time comes @therealposieparker, we'll be here to help Thanks

TERFragetteCity · 11/03/2018 09:13

And they say women are the weaker sex...fuck me you are brave.

I'm in to help with the legal costs. And in any way I can.

QueenLaBeefah · 11/03/2018 09:14

I'll definitely find Nate if you set up crowdfunding.

QueenLaBeefah · 11/03/2018 09:15

GetOffMyTERF · 11/03/2018 09:19

Posie if it gets to court I may be able to help with legal side, have a gender critical barrister friend who was involved on the side of the child in the case where the mother wanted to raise him as trans. PM me if it gets to that point. And thank you for being a test case on this, it will bring you a lot of crap. I massively admire your bravery Flowers

TERFragetteCity · 11/03/2018 09:20

What if hundreds of women [and men] retweeted or reported the exact same words and reported themselves to the West Yorkshire police?

Would they then have to come and talk to each and every one of them?

GetOffMyTERF · 11/03/2018 09:21

And more balls than Millwall is a fabulous strapline Grin

PeteAndManu · 11/03/2018 09:21

Really shocked and willing to help.

And on another article in the Times -TRAs want to rename Mother’s Day to Parent’s Day. Fuck off with that.
