www.fashionbeans.com/content/guys-admit-their-biggest-beauty-turnoffs-from-foundation-to-fake-tans

Hope the link works, this is showing up on my Facebook feed today.
As we have literally just 'celebrated' international women's day I for one am greatly relieved that we can just pat ourselves on the bottoms for a good job done and now go back to focusing on how to please men!

I particularly enjoyed the sage advice that of COURSE too much make up is a bad move because it prevents you from hugging a man as it might stain his shirt (that his wife or mummy probably washed and ironed).

On a more serious note, why the fuck is this even an article in this day and age? Does any woman really care what men find offputting? Do men's Facebook feeds have articles on what women find aesthetically disgusting in men?? Hmm....

I think “what turns men on and off” type magazine articles have always been around. I remember one in Just 17 when I was at school showing a model with white stilletoes, fake tan, tons of makeup, short jeans etc as being off puttin. Then the same model with a short skirt, “natural makeup”; ironically acknowledging that you’d have to wear loads of make up, etc.

It seems things haven’t really changed.

While it's obviously vital for any female over the age of 10 to have an arsenal of techniques for repelling men, these ones all sound like much too much hassle.

Ha, Tallulah Grin

Squamous · 20/09/2018 20:24

I do repel men.

Thank goodness for that!

IrenetheQuaint · 20/09/2018 20:27

I repel men naturally and have no need for any of these dubious artificial aids.

AspieAndProud · 20/09/2018 20:29

I think if you could make Man Repellent there would be a market for it. Not everyone wants the attention.

Juells · 20/09/2018 20:46

I've been repelling men since I turned 45.

HotRocker · 20/09/2018 20:53

I am uniquely gifted in that I can repel both men and women. Animals love me though.

Sethis · 20/09/2018 20:54

I'm a man. Aside from the obvious stupidity of the article title, concept and execution in general:

"The richest pigments and densest colour payoffs makes for the perfect lip look in most girls’ books, but guys instantly imagine it smeared on their face and clothes, fearing a clown mouth themselves and a dry cleaning bill to boot."

Wrong.

Maybe you don’t feel confident going make-up free when you’ve got excess redness to contend with, or maybe the lure of the perfect #gymselfie is too tempting to go barefaced, but guys don’t grasp any of that—they just wonder why on earth you’re bothering to wear slap at the gym.

Wrong.

Try-Hard Hair
Sometimes a special hairdo can make you feel incredible, but often those complicated Pinterest hairstyles never work out when attempted without the aid of a pro – and it’s safe to say the guys won’t appreciate the effort that went into it

Wrong.

Mumminmum · 20/09/2018 21:12

Hmm ... one of my biggest turn offs is when a man assume that everything I do is done to get his or other men's attention.

PencilsInSpace · 20/09/2018 21:20

I do my best

ChattyLion · 20/09/2018 22:35

I read this as ‘Are you repelling, men?’ And then wondered why FWR would be the place for a discussion between men about whether they were repellent or not. But still I clicked..Grin

Anyway. Clearly I was literally repelling men yesterday when a couple of blokes in a parked van were so concerned for my face that they took the trouble to shout out me to ‘cheer up’ as I was hurrying into work. Hmm

Yup, really lifted my spirits that did.

Doobigetta · 20/09/2018 22:50

Sethis, did you come to the Feminism board to tell us what men really think looks pretty?

MsMcWoodle · 20/09/2018 22:56

God I hope so.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 20/09/2018 23:01

Hahaha
Very drollGrin
I repel men, quite proud of it really.
(Apart from Mr Klop, obvs)

Wrathofjurgenklop · 20/09/2018 23:17

You know those times when you pass a shop window, and wonder, who is that
dowdy, unkempt woman looking back?

I have been practising that look.
I'm very good at it Grin

Sethis · 20/09/2018 23:20

@Doobigetta

I came to the feminism board because I was browsing the "Active" threads and this one came up. I clicked on the article and read it. It sounds like what a random woman thinks men think like, rather than something written by a man.

If you're going to write an article entitled "What men really think" then I feel that a good first step would be to have a collection of men write it, but maybe that's just me. Which is why I felt the need to point out the most obvious errors.

Men don't care if you wear makeup in the gym or not. We're far too busy ogling your yoga pants and tank top.

Men absolutely and completely do not think about dry cleaning bills when confronted with a woman with rich dark lipstick. We're too busy working out ways to sleep with you.

Men don't have strong feelings one way or the other about your hair, we can't tell the difference between a 10 second high bun and a 2 hour salon job most of the time. However if it looks unusual to how it does normally we feel obligated to tell you that we've noticed the change. So long as you haven't shaved half of it off, we love you anyway.

That's pretty much it. Nobody likes crap tan or bad teeth, so those are all good.

BoiledFrog · 20/09/2018 23:21

I thought I generally was repellent to men, being on the wrong side of 35 and generally dumpy, wrongly proportioned and not partaking of any kind of regimes.

Still found myself one Sunday morning looking at the erect penis of an ex co-worker many years my junior and also in a relationship, winder8ng if he could come round Shock

LangCleg · 20/09/2018 23:25

WTF is a 10 second high bun?

Does my not knowing what that is make me supercalifragilisticexpialidociously good at repelling men? I do fucking hope so.

Sethis · 20/09/2018 23:30

It's where you swoosh it round in a circle, stick it on top of your head, and wrap a bobble round it, right? Or is that something else?

LangCleg · 20/09/2018 23:32

I don't know, mate. You said it. Impressive knowledge of women's hair lingo though.

0rlaith · 20/09/2018 23:36

Gosh it’s so great that you came along here Sethis to enlighten us.

Sethis · 20/09/2018 23:37

That's what I thought it was... I'm open to being completely wrong. I have long hair myself, but my options as a man are low ponytail, free, or Samurai bunch for when I want to be super creative on special occasions. Manbuns make me snigger. I'm sure someone could be along shortly to enlighten me?
