www.fashionbeans.com/content/guys-admit-their-biggest-beauty-turnoffs-from-foundation-to-fake-tans

Hope the link works, this is showing up on my Facebook feed today.
As we have literally just 'celebrated' international women's day I for one am greatly relieved that we can just pat ourselves on the bottoms for a good job done and now go back to focusing on how to please men!

I particularly enjoyed the sage advice that of COURSE too much make up is a bad move because it prevents you from hugging a man as it might stain his shirt (that his wife or mummy probably washed and ironed).

On a more serious note, why the fuck is this even an article in this day and age? Does any woman really care what men find offputting? Do men's Facebook feeds have articles on what women find aesthetically disgusting in men?? Hmm....

@0rlaith

I thought we were all here to mock the article? I can't help feeling a bit of hostility from you, which seems a little unprovoked from my perspective.

LangCleg · 20/09/2018 23:43

Apropos of nothing, once again, I find myself pondering my belief that Kleenex will never go out of business.

Wrathofjurgenklop · 20/09/2018 23:44

Can't find the picture, so all I can say is...
Behold.

Turph · 20/09/2018 23:48

I thought we were all here to mock the article?
Yeah I think so, it's a crap article anyway, just an amalgamation of various paid for surveys conducted by firms trying to sell stuff. No wonder nobody out their name to it.
Ironically it's probably another example of women policing other women's looks.

BitOfFun · 20/09/2018 23:49

A good douse of this does the job without the effort.

FermatsTheorem · 21/09/2018 00:07

Sethis, what would repel you?

Just so I know.

Sethis · 21/09/2018 00:18

Sethis, what would repel you?

Stupidity, mostly.
Manipulation and deception.
Supporting Brexit

Physically though:

Completely untended body hair. I trim too, it's not hard to run some scissors over it every month or so, that's all we need to do.

Horrible teeth or unfortunate facial moles. Like, whoppers.

Ludicrous quantities of makeup and unreal eyebrows. Just messing with yourself to a ridiculous degree in general. Women are generally beautiful all by themselves. If you want to chuck a little bit of something on to bring out the best in yourself, then go for it, but your face shouldn't be something you construct, imo.

That's pretty much it, I think. We're far less bothered by this stuff than beauty mags make us out to be. I wonder why...?

0rlaith · 21/09/2018 00:40

Wrath is this what you were looking for ?

Thanks Orlaith
Indeed it is.

SophoclesTheFox · 21/09/2018 07:27

We're far too busy ogling your yoga pants and tank top

Beautiful words.

I wish I would start repelling men. At 45 years old, I really did think I would have aged out of street harrassment by now. I haven't.

Mistoffelees · 21/09/2018 07:35

Replaces eyebrow pencil with sharpie just in case I come across Sethis IRL

AngryAttackKittens · 21/09/2018 07:40

What I want to know is if the man repellent comes with a money back guarantee? The presence of our new friend would tend to indicate that a refund is in order.

EyeSaidTheFly · 21/09/2018 07:57

Sethis. At first I had some sympathy for you, but it ran out when you made your own list.

Dearie, no one cares about what turns you on or off. It's pretty entitled to think they would, astonishingly that you feel it's appropriate to come into the feminist board and essentially edit the list to make it all about you as if you speak for all men anyway.

What is being discussed on this board - by the women at least - is that we feel aggrieved by the assumption that women should care about and define themselves by what men think of their physical appearance. We all have better things to do.

You have missed the point of this thread entirely.

TonnoEMaionese · 21/09/2018 07:58

I actually had the creepy delivery driver thing the other day - I was annoyed (white goods delivery, was a week late, and I still had to plumb it in before I could use it, and we really needed it!), sweaty, in cleaning the house clothes, short and dumpy, over 40, and still he kept asking if that was my name on the delivery (lesson learned. Use fake name for delivery) and if he could friend me on face book.

Thank Christ I had him leave it downstairs in the block of flats and took it up to my flat myself. Trying to get him to leave the flat would have been awful.

FermatsTheorem · 21/09/2018 08:03

Oh the irony.

Feminists want to discuss, from a feminist perspective, why women's mags and similar are so invested in pushing articles about "what men deem worthy in a woman" - as in, why and how are women conditioned to believe that the most important things about themselves are those things men deem worthy of note.

Man arrives, and, completely missing the point of the discussion, mansplains to us that these lists are pointless, because what individual men deem worthy of note is much more varied and personal (i.e. mistakenly seems to think that our problem is that the lists don't work, not that the fact that they are deemed worthy of publication at all).

Woman (clearly tongue-in-cheek) says "okay, give us your personal list so we know how to get rid of you in particular..."

Man (clearly not realising the joke is on him) offers list starting with "stupidity."

Thus proving himself to be the walking exemplification of the phase "you can't argue with stupid."

FWIW, mate, I would like you to know that my online persona on this thread is "stupid, brexit-voting, manipulative, pancake make-up, wonky teeth." Now piss off and leave the grown-ups to talk.

CircumzenithalArc · 21/09/2018 08:10

Bit harsh, you lot. And you moan when feminists are accused of being "man-haters"

SophoclesTheFox · 21/09/2018 08:15

A man comes into a thread about how women are being instructed how to be attractive to men to issue his own instructions on how women should do that, including commenting on how he likes to ogle women at the gym, and you think it's harsh to want him to go away? You think that gems like "We're too busy working out ways to sleep with you" are insightful and useful?

Okey dokey.

FermatsTheorem · 21/09/2018 08:20

Circum we don't want to repel all men, only the arseholes.

The ones who aren't arseholes - well, first and foremost, we just want them to treat us as fellow human beings rather than sex objects. Those of us who are straight may also be interested, in the right circumstances (not all the time, to the extent where engineering situations where this happens due to our having met the criteria on a tick-list in a women's magazine, but as and when it happens, occasionally and if we're in the mood) in relationships with the subset of the non-arsehole men to whom we're attracted.

If you want to characterise that as "man hating", crack on. Says more about you than it does about us.

CircumzenithalArc · 21/09/2018 08:21

Well he was honest, and becoming thought police is not a good look from any perspective.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 21/09/2018 08:26

not a good look

Grin
FermatsTheorem · 21/09/2018 08:33

"You're not allowed to have a mental list of what you find attractive" = "being the thought police". Which precisely no-one has said.

I think the phrase you're looking for is "thread police" as in "we were talking about whether Killing Eve is a good TV show, you want to talk about female psychopaths in true-crime books, which might have a tangential relevance, but isn't actually what we were talking about, so please let us get back on topic."

Thread police, thought police. Easily confused I suppose. Especially if you're the sort of person who also confuses "women not wanting to be conditioned into acquiescing with the belief that what men think about them is the most important thing in their lives" and "man hating." Lots of confusion here. Have you had your morning coffee yet? It might help.

ScipioAfricanus · 21/09/2018 08:41

Women are generally all attractive, except for the ones that aren’t because of an extensive list of physical flaws.

Got it, thanks.

Sethis · 21/09/2018 08:44

Holy shit. A complete and utter inability to notice when the tone of a post is tongue in cheek. And a group of people whose sense of humour has been surgically removed.

Yes, I DID catch the tone, thanks. I thought that being friendly and joking might defuse the immediate hostility being shown to me. I was wrong.

The point of the thread was "This article is ridiculous for X reason" and all I commented was "and it's also ridiculous for Y reason". Apparantly this is me mansplaining to all of you, and makes me an idiot for thinking that in an article about mens perceptions of women, I might be able to contribute.

Not a single one of you has even tried to do anything but insult me because I'm a man, and you wonder why feminists get ragged on all day long as frothing at the mouth man-haters. It's irrational. We both agree that the article is ludicrous. We're in agreement on that. Yet the thread devolves into attacking someone trying to make a good-faith contribution based purely on their gender. Is that what feminism is all about? Immediate aggression against any man who intrudes onto the hallowed pages of your forum? What does that say about you and your views on equality?

Either way, I'm out. Congratulations, you've successfully shut down and thrown out another guy so your nice little echo chamber is safe and secure.

Juells · 21/09/2018 08:46

Not a single one of you has even tried to do anything but insult me because I'm a man, and you wonder why feminists get ragged on all day long as frothing at the mouth man-haters.

What made you think it would be a good idea to wade into a feminist discussion? Why did you expect to be made welcome?

Threewheeler1 · 21/09/2018 08:46

I can happily say I successfully reversed the polarity of my Man Magnet (Trademark Threewheeler 1973, Patent Pending) years ago.
Being so repellent leaves me lots of time to get practical stuff done Grin
