Council staff given thousands of pronoun badges so public don’t assume their gender

If you don't wear a badge of course, you don't support the cause. This is thought policing on an epic scale.

I look forward to this policy being rolled out in Stoke, Hull, Blackpool, Hartlepool etc...

I hope they are accesible badges. I look after a visually impaired person. Id hate them to not see the badge and make a mistake. I also assist refugees so I hope they are translated into many languages.

B&H council are professional jump on bandwagonners. They've just had to backtrack on changing all the school holiday dates. They've caused chaos fort two years by shortening the summer and given random extra unwanted weeks elsewgere. They also have a supposed 75 million in cash and other reserves. So money no object.

Could only be Brighton. Precious beyond belief.

Absolutely. It's all about inclusivity. All the badges need to have been translated into braille, and as many languages as necessary.

In fact they will have to just dispense with the badges together, and wear high viz jackets so they can get it all on there.

I find the insistence that all of us have a "preferred pronoun" incredibly tedious. I don't even have a preferred name

This. I tell people they can call me whatever they want as long as it is not insulting.

What huge egos these people have

GlitterGlue · 09/03/2018 18:32

Hang on, not all languages use gendered pronouns. How will the special snowflakes translate their specialness?

This is why I'm so glad I live in Finland now, everyone is just 'hän', no preferred pronouns are possible. Well unless they make them up, which I suppose some probably do.

SmilingButClueless · 09/03/2018 18:41

Actually, how would this work if you’re gender-fluid? Multiple badges?

If you can be bothered I'd be very interested to learn if they do invent special terms.

Trying to look it up but can't figure out what search terms to use (Finnish is hard :( ) - wouldn't ever come across it in the area I live, people are too sensible here!

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 09/03/2018 19:13

I've got a badge with my chromosomes on. Can I wear that?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/03/2018 23:25

Yikes! How would braille badges work?

People would have to rub them to read them.

And they would be attached to people.

Who might object to being rubbed!

I hope there is no plastic in these badges.

That would be very counter virtue.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 09/03/2018 23:37

I should qualify.

I grew up in Brighton and love it.

It has been a beacon for tolerance for decades.

It just makes it susceptible to this sort of misguided cock-up which I think will be mopped up and ditched by the residents fairly quickly.

Local comments are all scathing.

I don't live there now.

I hope they're vegan, too.

Shock This is so creepy as nauticant said and so wasteful of public funds. All about enforcing personal power and inappropriate attention seeking.

When you are working in a job supporting the public on behalf of your local authority with their needs at the forefront of your mind, surely their use of your preferred personal pronouns would be really be neither here nor there. You are there to do the job at hand. If you are that much of a delicate flower that if a service user gets the sex recognition cues that you present ‘wrong’ compared to your preference, this would seriously upend your sensibility, then maybe you are too delicate to work in a public- facing job.

You can’t control everyone’s else’s minds and perceptions of you. This is usually understood to be part and parcel of living life among other human beings.
