Women and crime statistics - increase in sex crimes?

shedalight · 06/03/2018 14:19

Daily mail article:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5465541/Record-number-women-convicted-sex-crimes-Britain.html

Some 142 women were guilty of sex offences in 2016 – almost double the 74 convicted two years earlier and more than triple the number at the start of the decade

There's a disgraceful rise in the number of adults working in schools convicted of abuse. I wonder whether there are any other reasons for this increase. Might those familiar with crime statistics have an idea?

With those numbers BlindYeo it seems that just over 12% of the "142 women sex offenders" will be biologically male.

That we know about.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 06/03/2018 16:16

The possibilities I can come up with here:
a) More women are committing sex crimes
b) More women are being convicted of the same definition of sex crimes
c) The definition of sex crimes has widened to include more convictions of women as sex crimes rather than other crimes
d) The definition of woman has been changed to include male individuals falsely inflating the

Conviction rates for sex crimes are still woefully low and, to my knowledge, there has been no change in the definition of sex crimes so b) and c) are out. So we're left with the choice of a) or d) or a combination of the two. Seeing as we've SEEN reports of TIMs being convicted and prisoned and reported as women we know that d) at least counts for SOME of the volumes but how much?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 16:21

That we know about

The transcrime figures don't account for 6 rape convictions of bepenised women.

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 16:29

Okay - I posted in AIBU ... HELP!! This is response I got from one poster ... Im keen to respond... unless they are right?

You don't have to be a man to Rape or commit a sex crime, a quick google search gives the definition: unlawful sexual intercourse or any other sexual penetration of the vagina, anus, or mouth of another person, with or without force, by a sex organ, other body part, or foreign object, without the consent of the victim.(www.dictionary.com/browse/rape)

People of any gender/sex/orientation can commit a sex crime (or any crime for that matter) it does not require a penis.

ALittleBitOfButter · 06/03/2018 16:31

That's the US definition.

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 16:32

Thanks... off to post...

Popchyk · 06/03/2018 16:33

That we know about

"The transcrime figures don't account for 6 rape convictions of bepenised women".

Ah. So that takes us to 17% being biologically male.

That we know about.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 16:34

I've posted the UK definition on the first page of this thread

loveyouradvice that's not uk law
Search for "uk law rape definition"
Penis required.

HairyBallTheorem · 06/03/2018 16:36

love we're in the UK. Someone upthread has already posted the precise legal definition of rape in the UK, under the 2003 sexual offences act. Barring a tiny number of women convicted under "common purpose" (e.g. holding the victim down while a man penetrates her), you cannot be convicted of rape in the UK unless you have a penis.

Davina Ayrton, Paris Green, Jessica Winfield... all men.

StealthPolarBear · 06/03/2018 16:44

As well as all the ladies with penises I suspect on general the reporting to sex crimes has risen.

I do think there is a problem with under-reporting of sexual offences by women - but I don't think this sudden jump is entirely down to more reporting. In fact because of the inclusion of the 6 rapes, we know the sudden jump isn't entirely down to more reporting.

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 16:54

Thanks ... so glad there are better informed women on here than me.... and ready to hopefully inspire more women to be on the trans-journey I have been on.....thanks to all of you in just a few weeks!

That's true. And it is possible that all 6 of them could have vaginas and have been convicted under common purpose (holding the victim down while their male accomplice penetrated them). But it's very, very unlikely.

Incidentally, the 2009 Scottish act (link here) includes surgically constructed penises so would encompass rape by a transman, but still does not include penetration by objects. So if all 6 were Scots and born female, that would be a hell of a lot of transmen in Scotland committing rape, which is also pretty unlikely.

TheGoodEnoughWife · 06/03/2018 17:07

I have commented but if hasn't shown up yet. Yes they could all be Scotland but I doubt it. Doubt it enough to suggest otherwise in the comments ...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 18:11

MOJ reports cover England and Wales. Scottish crime statistics are reported separately.

whatishappeninginsalisbury · 06/03/2018 18:15

Rufus - the comments are insane aren't they?!

I've tried to leave several comments now, about how it's impossible to convict a 'women' of rape unless they have a penis....but they won't show them Angry

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 06/03/2018 18:27

Can we do a freedom of information request?

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 18:33

Whatishappening - how come your comments aren't showing? They seem to have shown everyone else's?????

Are you up for trying again???

BertrandRussell · 06/03/2018 18:36

I am pretty sure that those figures are for England and Wales only. So the rapes at least would have been committed by a woman with a penis.

Secretsquirrel252 · 06/03/2018 18:42

The Daily Mail accepting trans women as women. Who would've thunk it?
At least we now know that women come above transsexuals on their hate list.
