What on earth is going to happen to women?

I’m actually really worried. In the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Theresa May’s speech on how being transgender is not an illness, on how they will be given equal rights including access to vinerable women’s spaces. I’ve seen labour following suit, criticising Margaret Thatchers speech about homosexuality and likening it to the transgender movement, saying they won’t get it wrong. It’s not the same at all! What is going to happen to women in all this? It seems their rights will be pushed to one side and I’m actually rather worried. Can enough of us stand up to be heard?

aw so innocent

What on earth is going to happen to women?
TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 04/03/2018 21:22

If all this goes through it’s probably going to be much safer in the men’s toilets. All the perverts/opotunists/AGP’s/rapists will be in the women’s

I think it's quite rude to insult people who are genuinely asking questions about a subject that's new. Not just new to me. I'm sure if you asked 100 people on the street about this 90 of them would have no idea what you're talking about. Most people don't live on Mumsnet.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 21:23

I prefer the term ‘fishy bastards’ for the ones that like to confuse the children. I read it on here somewhere and now whenever I see that ‘charity’ name it pops into my head and makes me arf.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:25

This thread is complete and utterly paranoid and bonkers. Not to mention insulting. If you want to raise awareness about your 'issues' you might want to try being a bit less nasty.

FfsFrieda · 04/03/2018 21:25

NameChanger22 but it isn’t new to you now?

I’ve seen your questions answered and you still haven’t told us what your opinion is now? You just keep asking more and more inane questions?

I think people would be more polite if you actually joined in with the discussion. People have told you about sports, Ian Huntley etc. A quick google can verify what they’ve said.

What is your opinion on what you’ve now been told?

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 21:25

NameChanger22 ok, prove you’re not sealioning by answering the question.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/03/2018 21:26

I don't really know...

What on earth is going to happen to women?
UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 21:26

NameChanger22 You seem to think its just about toilets. Look at the other examples people have given you, such as women's sports, hospital wards and psychiatric units.

Theres also rape crisis and domestic violence services, which are single sex for good reason.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 21:26

Ahhh there you are.

It doesn’t take long does it?

Patodp · 04/03/2018 21:28

What about the long growing list of male sex offences against women in Target since they adopted self declaration? Did you look?

FarFrom · 04/03/2018 21:28

Crimes will still be crimes. Rape, sexual assault etc. If you are worried about someone in your toilet by all means report them.
I am not worried about this at all.
The sport thing is interesting and may take some time to work out boundaries. But what will happen to women? We will keep on going as part of the wonderful and complicated human race. If tras are being abusive - call them out: report them. Don’t generalise this to trans people in general. (Waits to be insulted) Let’s reconvene in ten years and see who is right. None of us have a crystal ball but these vulnerable people are not our enemies (know this will inflame but believe it).

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:29

I don't think any other person's feelings are more important than mine. Men's rights always trump women's rights. They always have. It's not new.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 21:29

On the plus side...I think the whole ‘sea lion’ thing is a great big shot to their own foot.

Every time I see it on here I see the strange objections met with discussion and examples.

Helps lurkers see the difference between the ideology and the movement against it in my opinion. One has facts and like to reason/discuss, the other...not so much.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:29

I had a quick look at the Target article.

Sar500 · 04/03/2018 21:29

I dread to think but as a mother to a little girl I find this utterly terrifying. The world has gone mad...

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 21:30

Did someone leave the gates to sea world open?

2rebecca · 04/03/2018 21:30

This thread is only bonkers if you're not a woman concerned about men in women's sports prisons and refuges and who think that women who are concerned about these things shouldn't be able to meet and discuss them.

Patodp · 04/03/2018 21:30

It's not. Trans. We're. Worried. About.

How many times???

Are any of the male sex offenders who offended in Target changing rooms trans?

No.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:31

Insulting people is your tactic for trying to make other people see the way you do. Interesting. It's not my approach.

PositivelyPERF · 04/03/2018 21:32

I don't think any other person's feelings are more important than mine. Men's rights always trump women's rights. They always have. It's not new.

You’ve answered around the question, rather than give a straight answer.

SnibbleAgain · 04/03/2018 21:32

FarFrom

  • The sports thing is "interesting"? That's one way of putting it Confused spoken as one who has no skin in the game I assume

  • Let's wait 10 years and see what happens? Yes that's a great idea, when anyone flags potential issues with suggested legislation, don't object to it at that point, just let it go through and wait 10 years and then see if the issues came to pass

  • Male sexual predators, men who want to compete against women at sport, men who transition later in life and become the "first" at whatever it is they started doing as men, men who want to get into women's prisons for whatever reason (seen as cushy, safer, access to women), you think these men are vulnerable?

UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 21:33

NameChanger22 Its not just about toilets. Look at the other examples people have given you, such as women's sports, hospital wards and psychiatric units.

NameChanger22 · 04/03/2018 21:33

We've helped each other. I've learnt about a potential future problem that might never happen from you. And you've learnt how not to insult and be rude to people. Great stuff.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 21:34

Namechanger what is your approach exactly? You don’t seem to actually want to discuss anything, just tel other people how not to?

And the posters here don’t seem overly terrified of me so I think we can safely say they aren’t generalising or demonising all trans people.
