Magdelen Berns pushing Nic's video! Its the last, and potentially ^only^ chance.

Magdelen Berns has hosted Nic Williams' video on her YouTube channel. She's rubber stamped it with her own inimitable style because time is about to run out.

As I'm sure most of you know, Scotland are consulting on Self ID. They are extending their survey to whoever wants to complete it. You don't have to live in Scotland.

The deadline for completion is tomorrow.

All party politicians will be looking to Scotland for a temperature check on public opinion and this survey is where they'll find it. Whichever way it swings.

Some of the more anxiety inducing proposals include allowing 12 year olds to self ID. Without parental consent. There are options, and this is one of them.

It's effectively telling pre-pubescent kids that hey, this is an ok thing to do. The government thinks so! State sanctioned legal sex change for kids.

The worrying effect of this is that anyone aghast at 12 year olds getting a legal sex change, might more readily accept 14-15 year olds, with a sigh of relief. When 18 is the current law and needs to remain so.

Whatever policies/laws Scotland introduce, the UK government will have to find a reason to legislate differently, if they disagree. So whatever Scotland decides is crucial.

We worry that our voices aren't being heard.

This is the megaphone.

Thanks, Datun. I shared this video with some friends (not on Facebook) and one has filled it in already.

Bump.

Datun · 28/02/2018 13:28

Does the link work for you? I'm not sure it's doing what it's supposed to do.

I'll copy the link again, just in case.

Thanks datun.
It's so important that everyone gets something submitted. Even if its just a 'disagree' to all the proposals. If we've ever moaned about it now is the time to actually do something!

The video can be shared publicly. And anyone in the world can fill it in. Not just people from Scotland or UK.

IsHalfTermOverYet · 28/02/2018 13:40

Done! It is very therapeutic to do it. Feels like I have a voice. Also it has shocked me - the ramifications of changing the GRA become so clear when you do this survey

Gingernaut · 28/02/2018 13:47

One of the comments is noteworthy.

The sad fact is, we need men to get on board.

No one is listening to us......😡

May I have a link please, I am not filling it all out, just putting disagree as you say is adequate.

Datun · 28/02/2018 13:52

Yes it is quite cathartic IsHalfTermOverYet.

When you read through it, you suddenly realise that these are adults, in a position of authority, presumably educated and informed, and they are talking about social engineering on the most colossal scale imaginable.

As though it's as insignificant us shall we have a meat free Monday?

It's quite mind boggling that these proposals have through any kind of process. Being ticked and forwarded and ticked again.

Then someone has said right, we're good to go guys, let's publish.

With nary a thought to the What The Actual Fuck? that anyone informed about this issue, has tattooed across their forehead.

I wonder how many ordinary, everyday, public folk have even the smallest clue about this.

It should be getting beamed into peoples homes on TV, like the old-fashioned public information films.

It took two minutes of that to disagree, call them child abusers and sexiests, then fill out the last page. my health can't take any more than that, sorry. It gave me the rage!

Datun · 28/02/2018 14:08

Your post nails the lot. Into a few lines.

You can now exhale!

OrderOnline · 28/02/2018 14:12

I expanded saying the child abuse was around boundaries, gaslighting and sterilizing children. Angry I was like a TRA popper!

LadyScience · 28/02/2018 14:53

Bumping.

Done. Some of the questions didn’t allow disagreement with the fundamental proposal. It reads like a done deal. Unbelievable.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 28/02/2018 14:54

I used lots of caps in my response. LOTS OF CAPS

Strigiformes · 28/02/2018 14:57

Can you get this moved to aibu so more people can see it? There's probably still lots of mumsnetters who may not know about the survey.

fretnot · 28/02/2018 15:15

Done! And delurking Smile Also too ill right now to do the whole thing justice but disagreements well-and-truly registered.

Bump.
I did it last week.

BabiaMajora · 28/02/2018 16:57

Would response templates be helpful for those of us who want to do more than check their answer of choice? I'm happy for this to be used as a template for the first question (usually a lurker and not sure: hope it doesn't need too much tweaking).

^This proposal is not the solution the public needs: it has a detrimental effect on half of the population. It enables men to access women-only services and clubs and be included on all-women shortlists. It permits men to apply for jobs where women's privacy and decency, religious or cultural sensitivities or psychological vulnerabilities can be jeopardised by a man's presence. It would make it lawful for a man to enter women's refuges, wards, changing rooms and restrooms without argument. It allows men to participate in women's sports events and edge women out of the sporting world entirely.
I want to make it clear that I believe that transpeople deserve to be treated equally to natal men and women. I also believe that transpeople's rights are NOT women's rights. The proposal erodes women's rights, won hard throughout the last century. It allows any man to access any women only space, with nothing barring their entry but a spoken sentence, which could have devastating consequences for women. We cannot let this happen.^

"The sad fact is, we need men to get on board."

A lot are. The problem is getting them to care enough to become active.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 28/02/2018 17:36

I disagreed on page 1, explained why on the last page and gave them a swift lesson in writing questionnaires in the assessment part.

That is an awful piece of writing!
