Mermaids has hit the headlines.

Reports in both Daily Mail and Telegraph regarding a member of Mermaids calling the police over a midgendered pupil.

Surely the tide will begin to turn on this organisation. They are involved with schools and all kinds of organisations including the NHS, but I think their irrationality and bias is about to hit the mainstream.

Some misogynist added me to a FB list called "Cunts" recently, as I'm politely but firmly critical of trans ideology. Should I call the police?

I would take that as a compliment, after all, cunts are warm, deep and give a lot of pleasure. 😉 He was probably just jealous because he doesn’t have one.

SocialJusticeWorrier · 24/02/2018 18:31

I agree with those that said the teacher is bang out of line.

Calling the police was a bit OTT but this kind of behaviour sadly echoes radfem tactics we've seen previously like pulling fire alarms/making bomb threats to try and stop Warren Farrell speaking and that ridiculous hoohaa about trying to get that rocket scientist who landed a probe on an asteroid sacked for daring to wear a shirt with an scantily clad cartoon woman on it. The trans lobby seem to have hijacked this approach.

JustHooking · 24/02/2018 18:32

All the Big Brother contestants tried hard to use IW chosen pronouns but most of them slipped up
It is so hard to recognise IW as a woman because how she acts and looks screams male

nauticant · 24/02/2018 18:41

If someone lets Mermaids trigger a kneejerk response, irrespective of what they're saying, then they're being manipulated by Mermaids Idontdowindows. We should always examine critically what they're saying.

Idontdowindows · 24/02/2018 18:44

I have examined critically what mermaids says Nauticant.

They are a danger to children.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 24/02/2018 18:49

Yeah, no, you don't agree with me SJW.

Wobbleslikeaweeble · 24/02/2018 19:08

Socialjusticeworrier

Seems you’ve already made up your mind without knowing (or using any critical thinking) the full story or the people involved.

DixieFlatline · 24/02/2018 19:31

Well that post wasn't transparent at all, SJW!

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/02/2018 19:43

Discrimination isn’t a criminal offence. Harassment can be a crime though.

Elendon · 24/02/2018 20:04

There is no way my son, who has a full statement of SEN, would have been allowed to take two weeks off due to stress and anxiety - I was told it would have opened the flood gates and that pupils would pile in to do this.

I agree that misgendering a pupil specifically is horrid and an over reaction. I would never do that. But I also wonder how the heck the police got involved.

Reminds me of this actually.

Ive seen posts on Facebook recently about a woman who has been interviewed by the police because Mermaids/Susie Green reported her for transphobic tweets. According to her she wasn't saying anything that we don't all post here about biological fact.

MrGHardy · 24/02/2018 20:36

"I agree with much that you say @LadyMcLadyCrisps. It's unwise to have a default position that if something's been said by Mermaids, then it must be wrong. That's a faith position. It's better to examine critically what they say. We can be confident they'll be wrong often enough."

Except when they call a police to a school when no crime has been committed. As Datun said, a hate crime necessitates an actual crime being motivated by 'hate'. E.g. if the teach had beaten up the kid, that's a hate crime. 'Disrespecting' or 'bullying' are not crimes, hence no hate crime was committed. Calling the police simply is another example of how totalitarian TRAs are in their aim of suppressing all opposition.

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 24/02/2018 21:15

Doobigetta, when I said "I'd put money on similar stories coming out of somewhere before there's any sort of indication that this is actually 100% factual" - I didn't imagine it being quite that quick! Shock

BeyondTerfyCassandra · 24/02/2018 21:19

I'd be very curious to know if mn have been approached about any posts here. Can anyone remember, when it was SP, did mn let people know straight away when their posts were reported? Iirc they did and gave people the opportunity to take them down or to let their details be passed on?

UnderTheDesk · 24/02/2018 21:20

I would bet my last fiver that when Mermaids say "the police got involved" what actually happened is that Mermaids called the police, police turned up and said 'this is nothing to do with us' and went away again.

thebewilderness · 24/02/2018 22:09

I wonder what is going to happen to the biology teachers.

thebewilderness · 24/02/2018 22:11

Having been bullied by both teachers and students and got in trouble for objecting all I can say is Criminy!

TerfyMcTerface · 24/02/2018 22:35

The biology teachers will be burnt at the stake. With a nice fire made out of their textbooks.

AngryAttackKittens · 24/02/2018 22:39

Hmm, SJW. Do try to troll a bit more subtly, love.

If Susie Green told me that the sky was blue I'd go check. You never know, could be an eclipse, and she's repeatedly shown that she has a flexible attitude towards the truth if she thinks that dishonesty might serve her larger goals. I'd like to hear from both the teacher and other pupils who were in the room, but on what little information we have here I'm guessing this was most likely a case of a stereotypically feminine girl demanding to be seen as a boy and hitting the wall of adult "but that's absurd" response. Could be something nastier, but we'd need to hear from people less biased and more reliable than Mermaids to know.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 24/02/2018 23:35

If it did happen as Susie Green says it did..then of course the teacher was in the wrong. I would never support purposely being nasty to a child in that way. This was not just 'misgendering', if Greens account is correct.

Mind, I take everything Green says with a pinch of salt tbh, and would not be surprised at all to find out what she says is total bullshit or massively over-egged.

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 24/02/2018 23:39

Having said that, the school apparently supported the teacher so it may well not be as straightforward as Mermaids suggests.

Yeah, I cannot see the school supporting the teacher in the events claimed. Even taking dysphoria out of the equation, any teacher laughing in a distressed childs face and making a joke of whatever they are distressed by..would surely not be tolerated.

PositivelyPERF · 25/02/2018 00:04

There was a Male teacher suspended for saying “well done girls” which apparently offended a drama lama girl who identified as a boy. He was suspended as he didn’t believe in lying about the sex of the child. Apparently he was taking the school to court. Sutcliffe was his name. Does anyone know what the outcome was?

That’s possibly why this school is supporting the teacher.

MrsOvarall · 25/02/2018 00:22

The school supporting the teacher very much suggests that there's more going on behind the scenes than has been made public by Mermaids. Escalating the situation to the point of wasting police time is a very worrying response if that's true.

AngryAttackKittens · 25/02/2018 00:26

Trying to use the police when initial attempts to pressure the school into going along with trans ideology didn't work is predictable, but nonetheless a concern. The description of how the police actually handled the complaint is suspicious in that you'd think the police would know that for a hate crime to occur first there has to be a crime, which being unkind to a student is not.
