Self ID...when?

Hello

Been reading for weeks with mounting horror..was previously Meh ..live and let live.

Just have this question I can't see the answer to. When is it planned that self ID could be introduced? Have any timescales been set out?

Well, there was a 'report' by Maria Miller for the Womens and Equalities committee that made recommendations. This morphed into a private members bill to amend the GRA2004 act when partially progressed through parliament. It was then truncated by the General Election last June.

Teresa May announced it in July that consultation would take place in the Autumn. In the Autumn, Justine Greening said it would be later on in the year, then later on in the year she said it was delayed, then they had a cabinet reshuffle and Amber Rudd sort of said that they would wait to see what happened with Womens Refuge, or something.

Once a bill is passed it takes a year to come into place. Not sure about amendments though.

Just to add that Labour have said if the Conservatives don't put it through, they will when they are in power.

A Scottish consultation on reform of the Gender Recognition Act to allow self-id is currently open until March 1st. The consultation is open to anyone (not just residents of Scotland). There is a possibility that if this goes through in Scotland it may be pushed through in the rest of the UK.

According to Fair Play for Women:
It is extremely likely that the UK government WILL legally recognise the validity of a Scottish GRC. This means that people will be able to obtain a GRC in Scotland and then be legally recognised as the opposite sex throughout the whole of the UK. This will impact everyone in the UK and could represent GRA reform by the back door for England and Wales without further consultation. This may be the only chance women in England and Wales get to express their views. Also, once Scotland has introduced GRA reforms it will be used as a reason for the rest of the UK to follow to unify the process. This affects EVERY woman in the UK

Self-ID is pretty much a done deal in Scotland, the consultation is worded in such a way as to assume it IS going ahead, but a few minor details need finalising.

Particularly the question that was worded something along the lines of:
A) should we introduce self ID only in Scotland
B) should we introduce self-ID for the whole world
C) should it be a criminal offence to recognise biology

I really really hope Scotland hears us.

This is the fundamental issue.

Schools, the NHS, care/nursing homes, retail outlets, leisure centres have all adopted policies AS IF SELF ID IS ALREADY PROTECTED BY LAW.

This pervasive shift in social norms is far more dangerous than any legal change as it is undemocratic - hence why so many women are beginning to speak out.

It is already being implemented as though it were established law.

Echoing others, this is the big problem at the moment.
