Yes he is amazing. I wish we had someone over here of his intelligence and iron resolve. Or maybe our gender critical advocates are just not getting any air time.

TAs seem to use emotional blackmail constantly. He brings it back to the crux of the matter every time.

Mouthandtrousersall · 18/02/2018 23:00

Sorry I meant this person

Owl

She's explaining its really really bad and also explaining that she hasn't read it. Lily says bad, all Lily worshippers say bad, that's all we need to know.

They have adopted Trump tactics.

Mouthandtrousersall · 18/02/2018 23:04

Ok, messages going missing here. The message above refers to the conversion versus conversation mix up. Owl is repeating the conversion therapy as if its a fact. No interest in reading the stuff.

DarthArts · 18/02/2018 23:54

Misquoting = ok

Misgendering = hate speak

Ironic if the former is used to discredit someone and launch a SM hate campaign against them.

I've been blocked by LM for responding to a tweet where I specifically making this point.

DodoPatrol · 19/02/2018 10:00

LM must have the highest number of Unfollowers in the history of Twitter. Is anyone allowed to question their tweets these days?

DarthArts · 19/02/2018 12:03

Indeed and therein lies much of the reason why LM is criticised.

An essential part of being a politician (rather than an activist) is being both willing and able to debate issues across a wide range of topics.

LM is a one issue activist whose using a political platform to vocalise their position whilst not just refusing to engage in debate, but actively shutting down other people's ability to respond to the narrative LM is intent on providing.

I'd have an admittedly grudging degree of respect if LM was prepared to explain and articulate and engage - but the M.O. is simply make an assertion, and then block and slander any dissenters as Transphobes.

I wonder what LM thinks happens at PM's questions? Does May get to press a button on her phone and block JC when he asks a question she doesn't like?

LM should be honing skills in debate if a career in politics is an ambition, not refusing to respond.

DarthArts · 19/02/2018 12:23

LM's latest. Anybody shaking in their boots?

That's a somewhat incoherent piece of artwork from a supposed design student, surely. Wouldn't give it much of a mark at GCSE.

DarthArts · 19/02/2018 12:43

I wonder what will happen if all the Terfs decide to self identify as smurfs?

Can you sue a fictional character? Grin

'Social Media Using Real Females', you mean?

MacaroonMama · 19/02/2018 12:45

Wow, he is so patient and careworn. (I think I have a bit of a crush, is that allowed?!)

I wanted to say to him though 'Tell them it is important for reporting crimes to use biological pronouns' just to see what the questioners would say in reply.

Going to look him up now. He was so interesting.

hackmum · 19/02/2018 12:57

I'm curious as to what he imagines the police are going to do about a few tweets essentially making fun of him. Given that TRAs regularly issue death threats and threats of violence on social media with impunity, it's hard to see that the police are going to do about a few middle-aged women telling him what a silly boy he is.

OldmanOfTheWeb · 19/02/2018 13:29

Wow, he is so patient and careworn. (I think I have a bit of a crush, is that allowed?!)

On Jordan Peterson? I think so - I understand he is quite liked by more intellectual women.

Try to find longer interviews - he comes across very well. Incidentally, a woman named Lindsey Shepherd almost got fired for airing that clip I just showed to her university class. She was teaching about language and thought it was a good counter-example for discussion.

(Here's an interview with her if you're curious

)

I like him. Make your own mind up. Here's a Channel 4 interview that became rather notorious a month ago.

Anyway, I've probably gone off topic so sorry about that. Will stop sharing videos, now. :)

mamaryllis · 19/02/2018 15:53

I follow Lindsay on twitter. What happened to her was truly appalling, but I do worry that she is now being used by the far right and it isn’t always a good luck. Her original intentions, were, I believe, to open a conversation. It says a lot about Wilfred Laurier’s ideology and approach to critical thinking that showing a clip from a public broadcast of a working professor was deemed to be ideologically suspect.

mamaryllis · 19/02/2018 15:55

Am lol that suddenly JP is crush-worthy. Not sure I’d go that far. I admire him for sticking to his principles but generally he is seen seen as terribly non-U.

TERFousBreakdown · 19/02/2018 16:14

Given that TRAs regularly issue death threats and threats of violence on social media with impunity, it's hard to see that the police are going to do about a few middle-aged women telling him what a silly boy he is.

While this is technically entirely accurate, can we also acknowledge how (RED ALERT! WEAPON GRADE IRONY INCOMING!) threatening this is?

Some of us are the sole breadwinners for our families. Some of us work in jobs that require us to undergo background checks. Some of us are politically or socially active in other areas apart from this issue. Etc.

In a nutshell, what this is saying is 'disagree* with me and I'll have the authorities hound you'.

I actually find this very, very chilling indeed! It's got vibes of McCarthyism - especially coming from a party functionary!!!

  • I'm extrapolating the fact that LM may equate disagreement with 'threats' on the basis that myself as well as countless others have been blocked for either asking questions or even merely following the wrong people without ever interacting with LM at all.
Mumsnut · 19/02/2018 16:37

Is it a reference to Miranda Yardley? Various TRAs are having at her for outing a trans minor by tweeting a photo and name, allegedly (hard to work out what's gone on 'cos I think the tweet itself is no more). MY says all the info she tweeted was available on the internet already. Police are involved I think.

TERFousBreakdown · 19/02/2018 16:50

MY says all the info she tweeted was available on the internet already.

Unlikely, seeing as LM explicitly refers to supposed threats and abuse against LM.

Having seen the exchange you refer to, it wasn't related.

TERFousBreakdown · 19/02/2018 16:51

Sorry, quote fail ... 'unlikely' that the LM tweet concerns MY from what I've seen.

conservativeuterus · 19/02/2018 17:23

Wow, I enjoyed listening to Jordan Petersen.

Amazing how many people DON'T listen to what he is saying. They twist it around to what they want him to have said so they can attack him.

Having followed the whole trans debate (or lack of, certainly from their side) what strikes me so much about all of this is just how childish it is. And how many people, vast swathes of people, have never grown up, or do not possess the ability to behave like a grown responsible adult.

busyboysmum · 19/02/2018 17:42

Yes that's what strikes me too. It's tantruming kids. We need someone to step in as an adult.

DarthArts · 19/02/2018 17:53

But it's impossible to step in as an adult because that implies you are willing and able to engage in debate, supported by rational arguments underpinned by tangible and independent evidence.

Without any such tools the only possible tactics are:

  1. Toddler - stamps foot and lists demands whilst throwing toys
  1. Young child - "ner nerny ner ner - I'm not listening, I'm right and your wrong, so stick your ideas up your bum"
  1. Teenager - Kevin style "you all hate me, my life would be fine without you. You're just mean. Leave me alone" slams bedroom door emerges again only for attention or food.
Garmadonsmum · 19/02/2018 18:23

I would not be remotely surprised if the police take Lily very seriously indeed. We are all in fear of the transborg these days.
Afaik women told they should be raped, DIAF etc don't get much help from the police.
