There are plans for one. But they are explicitly NOT celebrating "the female reproductive system". Guess why. HmmAngry

I went to an event promoting it tonight, and it was generally great - especially the talk on the history of the word cunt, & the charity providing sanpro for asylum seekers & refugees.

There was a lot about the importance of being able to talk about our bodies, the odd reference to "Vagina-havers" or "people with periods" but it was rare enough that I could largely ignore it.

Then at the end of the evening I realised that the museum's strapline was about "celebrating vaginas & the people who have them". The organiser then announced a future event featuring Sophie LaBelle of Assigned Male. FFS.

What finished it off for me was a look at their website, where they explain that they don't talk about female reproductive systems because that would be trans-exclusionary.

This could have been a brilliant opportunity to celebrate women as a sex & our bodies. But it's not.

I think the best way to understand it is that 1-3 are who they use in order to raise funds and get school groups booked in, and 4-6 are who they are actually in service to.

I thought that the challenge heteronormative and cisnormative (flinch) behaviour is because the default when educating about sex is that it means PIV. And, you know, lesbians manage to have sex without PIV. Plenty of it, I hear.

Though, yes, I get that raises the spectre of cis and lady penis and...

I actually thought they'd tried to champion women, the common or garden kind, but, maybe not.

It's so disappointing, I really thought the VM was going to be brilliant.

05. Challenge heteronormative and cisnormative behaviour
Why does this need to be ‘challenged’?

06.Promote intersectional, feminist and trans-inclusive values
Why, just why?

It’s a VAGINA museum, why not celebrate it for what it is. Let some other group open a trans museum if they are so bothered about it.

This is sounding like the Old Vic toilets debacle. ’ Let’s fund raise for more women’s toilets, oops we’ve spent all the funds on the men. We have literally pissed it up the wall!’

I’m not sure this is making any sense but my tether is at its end.
