This made my blood run cold.

The article questioned whether male or female guards should do the searches - I think men like this would get a kick out of a woman searching them. Just saying you're not called Sophie doesn't mean you can insist on a woman touching you.

If they have a penis of course female guards shouldn't be searching them ffs.

NCer here. I'm a female police officer and as a young PC we had a 'transwoman' (6'3"+, brick shithouse built, penis owning man) insist that they were a female when they were taken into custody. As this was frequent, and often on suspicion of drug poasession (justified!) it necessitated a strip search which I ended up doing. He spent the whole time intimidating and abusing me and my colleague, calling us frigid lesbians etc, and making it entirely clear they were physically male and much bigger and stronger than me. It was disgusting so I reached peak trans about 10 years ago and I feel desperately sorry for female prison officers if these scum are allowed their own way.

In Scotland non binary prisons are being planned - unfortunately that isn’t good enough as TRAs are still protesting and want to be housed with women.

Changenames, in the prison service (I can only speak for England and Wales) a male officer will search the genitalia of a trans woman and a female officer the top half. If the prisoner tries to intimidate the officers, then they are restrained and the strip search done under restraint.

It's like living in a world where everyone in authority has completely lost their minds.

I've gone so far beyond peak trans I couldn't even tell you where I am.

This will make prison staff even more vulnerable.

Meant to add, though - whatever happens, female-bodied prisoners should still have, exclusively, female-bodied prison officers to search them, and no negotiation whatsoever for that. And female-bodied prison officers should not be subject to this kind of abuse.

And male-bodied prisoners should be dealt with by male prison officers and the male prison estate.
