Labour lose 3 points - ALL women leaving the party

goodyzoe · 11/02/2018 01:42

"The 3-point fall in the Labour share [in You Gov poll] is entirely explained by a 6-point fall among women (from 46% to 40%)"

CON 43 (+1)
LAB 39 (-3)
LD 8 (+2)

@jenniferjames says "Oh fucking hell. I broke the Labour party. :-( "

I've got very mixed feelings. On the one hand - go everyone! They'll have to take notice - surely?

But - Jesus Christ let's not let the Tories have another term.

But - we have to stick up for ourselves don't we.

Starting to think the people who say the rapid rise in TRA ideology is being fuelled by those who stand to benefit from a divided left might have a point. Sad

It's become bleeding obvious this morning that Labour have deployed paid political posters to try and undo some of the damage.

Can they pop back to HQ and tell JC we’d like a web chat? Thanks!

Flytipper you're completely missing the point.

This isn't about what happens to spoiled votes AFTER the election.

This is about the THREAT of lost votes to parties, and what they will do about it BEFORE an election.

It's about negotiation.

It's about not letting it get that far, broadcasting loudly that there are enough women who WILL spoil ballots - enough to SWING seats.

There are swing seats where a couple of hundred women will make the difference.

There are already thousands of women prepared to tactically withdraw their support for labour.

Labour needs to listen to us. We are the difference between them winning or losing and they know it. They just don't think we'll do it.

I will.

MistressDeeCee · 13/02/2018 16:41

lostmeagesago I truly don't know but will give it some thought and see if any strategies come up on these boards. I can't bear the thought of voting Tory, and I won't. But Corbyn needs to get the message that he needs to go. Somehow. Tactical voting is all I can think of, so that it's realised women can and will be heard

BarrackerBarmer · 13/02/2018 16:41

materialist put it much more succinctly.

LEVERAGE.

FlyTipper · 13/02/2018 16:45

You'll need a precise campaign beforehand or else your non-vote will be put down to a range of factors. That's all I'm saying.

FlyTipper · 13/02/2018 16:48

And also to say there are more effective ways of making your voice heard i.e. through the parties by tabling motions etc.

LangCleg · 13/02/2018 16:49

The other thing that is important to remember here is that voter apathy, whether that be via spoiled ballots or just not turning up, has a much bigger electoral effect on Labour. Labour is the party most affected by low turnout.

BarrackerBarmer · 13/02/2018 16:51

Exactly that - this will be publicised beforehand.

Tabling motions will fail. They already hear us.
They have chosen to ignore us.

They are 100% certain that they can ignore us and that we won't withdraw support. They think we have no power.

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 16:55

We do have the power. We have the vote.

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 17:00

Barracker has it:

This is about the THREAT of lost votes to parties, and what they will do about it BEFORE an election.

hipsterfun · 13/02/2018 17:02

All other things being equal, I’ll spoil my ballot.

If the Tories clearly state they are permanently shelving self-ID, I’ll vote Tory.

Everyonematters · 13/02/2018 17:04

*Labour needs to listen to us. We are the difference between them winning or losing and they know it. They just don't think we'll do it.

I will.*

Me too. And everyone else I've spoken to about this.

OlennasWimple · 13/02/2018 17:07

#voteXXX

With everyone drawing a new candidate name box on the bottom of their ballot paper with "XX" in it, plus an X next to it (to indicate support)

SporadicSpartacus · 13/02/2018 17:17

Like it, @Oleannas.

I am a longtime abstainer, however I’d be happy to turn up and do a spoilt ballot to get more weight behind such a gesture.

VoleClock · 13/02/2018 17:30

Materialist always find your posts insightful - thank you.
I am a long time Labour supporter but did vote Tory once, and once only, way back in 1979. I now live in a strong Labour seat but will definitely be a ballot spoiler next time unless this self -ID idea is jettisoned.

FlyTipper · 13/02/2018 17:40

As a long time abstainer??? If you don't already vote, I can't see how a no-vote will move anyone. Besides, as most posting on this thread ARE long time voters, I ask you: what about the Iraq war and the Blair years? Huge swathes of traditional Labour voters stopped voting Labour. It didn't change the direction of Labour. What has changed the direction of Labour is, among other things, the rise and rise of Momentum.

endofthelinefinally · 13/02/2018 18:07

I know so many starry eyed students who are completely committed to Momentum. Hook, line and sinker.
These are kids at good universities, reading politics, history, economics.
It is very worrying.

Ereshkigal · 13/02/2018 18:08

Absolutely. You can hand the Tories another decade if you choose.

Do you really want to do this? Considering Tory class genocide?

Perhaps you should have made your voice heard, as a man, in support of women's rights and protection, when this first started happening, then?

makeourfuture · 13/02/2018 18:10

Perhaps you should now make your voice heard to support those suffering.

You are aware.

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 18:13

We are suffering at the hands of your political masters.

Haven't heard them flocking towards the media to defend women's rights and apologising

makeourfuture · 13/02/2018 18:17

We are suffering at the hands of your political masters

The party I support is not in power.

CurriedNoodle · 13/02/2018 18:19

makeourfuture must be time for you to clock off soon?

Perhaps you should now make your voice heard to support those suffering

You are aware

I could say the same to you. You now know how we are suffering, how much we will suffer. So make your voice heard.

Assuming you can verbalise more than one sentence thoughts in RL.

Horridemma · 13/02/2018 18:19

The party I used to support is not in power and unless they change their current course of action I don't know who I can vote for.

I am not voting for anyone who is throwing women's right under a bus

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 13/02/2018 18:20

The party I support is not in power

And won't for as long as Corbyn is leader.
