Labour lose 3 points - ALL women leaving the party

"The 3-point fall in the Labour share [in You Gov poll] is entirely explained by a 6-point fall among women (from 46% to 40%)"

CON 43 (+1)
LAB 39 (-3)
LD 8 (+2)

@jenniferjames says "Oh fucking hell. I broke the Labour party. :-( "

I've got very mixed feelings. On the one hand - go everyone! They'll have to take notice - surely?

But - Jesus Christ let's not let the Tories have another term.

But - we have to stick up for ourselves don't we.

Starting to think the people who say the rapid rise in TRA ideology is being fuelled by those who stand to benefit from a divided left might have a point. Sad

Which locals, YTho?

iBiscuit · 11/02/2018 21:22

Genuine question, btw. I can't understand why Momentum intervened this way in local politics.

YTho · 11/02/2018 21:26

So the choice is either to not vote or to vote tory? Neither of them are good options. Low income women have been disproportionately affected by the current mess, I cannot vote for a party that has imposed it on us. Not voting is not an option either. Spoiling a ballot imo is the same as not voting. Monster raving loony party? if we had a real democracy where every vote counts this would be so much easier.

YTho · 11/02/2018 21:28

Biscuit, sorry the Haringey locals who didn't want to be moved from their houses that were going to be developed. I believe they opposed to the scheme proposed.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/02/2018 21:29

No the decision is to not vote for any party that support this pish.

51% of the population is an interesting demographic to piss off

LizzieSiddal · 11/02/2018 21:31

We do need a new middle ground party. There’s many good Labour politicians who’ve had to remain silent over the past few years. I wish they’d stand up and start shouting or go and start a new party.

YTho · 11/02/2018 21:31

But assigned, which party is that? From what I've understood they all support it?

iBiscuit · 11/02/2018 21:33

I honestly don't know enough about it, but intervention like that doesn't sit comfortably with me. Probably a discussion for another thread though.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 11/02/2018 21:42

At th moment, none Y

But they will soon change their minds if we all object to this shit. Seriously, there is no bigger demographic

YTho · 11/02/2018 21:54

Ibiscuit, the way I look at it is that it's a good thing the locals were able to have their voice heard and it made a difference. It doesn't seem to happen very often in this world.

Assigned, I hope you're right. In the meantime we're all just going to have to do what we think is right.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 11/02/2018 22:10

the Haringey council thing was locals opposing a housing development decision. Quite rightly so imo.

So you think the bullying and abuse that has allegedly gone on is ok?

LangCleg · 11/02/2018 22:53

Labour has a democratic policy making structure.

Yes, based on democratic centralism, which makes it susceptible to particular cadres within the party. Hence all the kerfuffle about Momentum. Whichever cadre is best organised at conference will get its motions passed. Momentum will be the best organised and Momentum will support self-ID, as do some of the biggest unions already.

My CLP is not happy about self-ID but the committee is terrified of regional.

Labour is a big ship. It is not going to turn on self-ID this electoral cycle.

YTho · 11/02/2018 23:17

Piglet, of course bullying and abuse is not ok. What I'm happy about is that the locals had a voice and they seemed to have achieved the outcome that they wanted regarding their homes. They considered the development plans as social cleansing.

Everyonematters · 11/02/2018 23:19

I am a former member and am sad. It's finished. A new party for the women, Jews, soft left and centrists will emerge. Someone has to create it.

Please God, somebody invent this party so I can vote for if.

Everyonematters · 11/02/2018 23:20

LangCleg I love your posts.

Horridemma · 11/02/2018 23:48

Maybe we need women friendly unions as well

Everyonematters · 12/02/2018 00:18

Big yes to that Horridemma. So many Union members in the Labour against questioning trans ideology transphobia group.

HelenaDove · 12/02/2018 01:27

Agree with Ytho

Ytho have you seen the latest news regarding UC and school dinners.

aaahhhBump · 12/02/2018 01:40

Cooroo popchyk

I got the labour 100 year merchandise tat email.
Never been in labour -except child birth-
Haven't yet donated to the fund either.

They must have bought a list. No pun intended.

Pythagonal · 12/02/2018 01:51

Has anyone else heard about this new political party? An old school friend posted on FB about them, and another old friend has applied to be a candidate for them:

renewbritain.org

I sent an email asking for their position on the proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act. The email response I had was that they had referred the question to their Policy committee. I'll let you know how they respond.

LovesLaboursLost · 12/02/2018 07:14

There are plenty of Momentum members in my CLP against self id. Women need to stay in the party and make the argument within each CLP. Though now we’ve had the anti-Momentum misogyny and anti-semitism stuff I suspect for some people this is about more than self id. I’m not in momentum btw, but neither are my CLP’s worst misogynists.

TheXXFactor · 12/02/2018 07:26

Bet you it's that "trans women are women" and that they support self-ID.

LangCleg · 12/02/2018 09:47

I believe you. I campaigned with Momentum in the last GE and the people were lovely - mostly women, mostly public sector employees, with the main impulse being anti-austerity.

The problem with Labour structures is that democratic centralism doesn't advantage those people. It advantages the obsessive ideologues - as you can see with what happened in the two CLPs where SargeSalute and Lily Madigan were involved. Most Labour members don't have time to live and breathe CLP manoeuvring. The people at the top of Momentum support self-ID and will make recommendations about how to vote on hundreds and hundreds of motions at conference.

I wish you well in the fight in your CLP and I'll keep doing my best in mine. But I don't think it will work. Sorry.

Everyonematters · 12/02/2018 10:05

I do think it's a fight worth having against Self-ID within the parties. Whether it's won or not, it builds awareness of issues. And who knows what's possible? Trump and Brexit happened - maybe it's time for a good news surprise for a change.

Horridemma · 12/02/2018 10:17

People at the top of Momentum have penises.

The females are doing all the donkey work - trying to keep us all on whatever message it has been decreed that we should believe.
