BBC debates women's safety - without any women

I don't think there is a brink. Some people seem to believe transwomen are women, others don't. Under specific circumstances in current law (post op ir drs viewpoint) a transwoman can be legally recognised as female. This was based on specific human rights issues including right to marry as at the time same sex marriage was not legal.

Worth raising with the BBC that 'trans women are women' is a belief and they have not been very good at getting across what others think or why this matters.

But great you wrote in and thanks for sharing. I thought the way it was introduced was hugely biased for the above reasons, but the actual interview clearly well researched with some good questions.

Mouthandtrousersall · 26/02/2018 14:33

Robinson would not say he thought Lees was a woman in this broadcast. Lees pushed him to say how he would introduce him and Nick danced around it deliberately. Lees finally asked if he was coming to a dinner at Nick's house, what would he say to his friends and Nick waffled about saying something out of courtesy. So Nick was not going to say Lees is a woman if he could avoid it. Cos of course Lees is a man!

Collidascope · 26/02/2018 14:40

Paris wrote an article on Pink News after this interview, grumbling about how "Nick made me feel interrogated and when I objected to this he informed me that as someone pushing for a change in the law, I have questions to answer." Interestingly, that article seems to have been deleted. There are still links to it but it's gone. I do wonder why.

Mouthandtrousersall · 26/02/2018 15:00

Lees responded to Nick on that subject by saying he was not pushing for a change to the law. He just wanted children not to be bullied. And that his mum now thinks if only she had let him wear a dress as a kid it would all have been different. So Pink News are going to take down ambiguity like that cos it undermines the black is white dogma.

That's really interesting, thanks for the update.

I may listen to it now actually. It sounds like the title was misleading?

Collidascope · 26/02/2018 16:16

That is interesting, Mouth. I assumed it was either something that didn't fit with their agenda, or Lees had said something so batshit crazy that even they couldn't justify keeping it up. Given the batshit craziness they are happy to publish, I couldn't even begin to imagine what that would look like. Maybe just 'trans women are women' written over and over again in poo or blood.

Yes worth listening to, recommend.
