Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If self id worked the way TRAs say it does who or what would you identify as?

I can't decide between Stephen King or Guy Tang. I'm not that bothered about the whole penis thing. My gender doesn't define me and I'm that feminine anyway, so I could cope with being male but they're both recognised as very talented men in fields I am passionate about.

Obviously, as soon as I id as one of them, I will immediately share their life experiences and the things that make them them, therefore I will also be recognised as a very talented author or colourist and people will flock to me and buy all my books or hair products. Anything else would be phobic and literally wishing death on me.

DD2 would id as a ninja.

What an amazing list.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 06/02/2018 18:17

Weirdly I kind of get the TRA thing because I sort of always vaguely thought I wanted to be Jewish Shock

I don't know why? Opressed people who I have had great empathy with, close affiliation with other members of the group. I can see why you might look at women and think the same...

But I'm not a twat so I never learnt to recite the Kaddish or went round saying 'shabbat shalom' on Friday afternoons. Or told anyone Jewish that they hadn't had it as bad as me. Hmm

Giggorata · 06/02/2018 21:14

I think I’m going to identify as a member of the royal family. I'm going to swan round waving regally at the crowds and will also insist on being called my royal highness, or my majesty.
I may not have been actually born into royalty, but I just know I am inside - I have been certain of it since I was a child. I have all the appropriate robes and some really ostentatious (paste) jewellery, not to mention a suitably haughty demeanour.
I will demand my rights of access to all the palaces, royal parks, events and, of course, the civil list, as the true blue blooded person I am.
Anyone who tries to point out that I am not really royal is failing to support my self identity, committing hate crime and I will have them in the Tower. Kneel, scum!
But that's only Monday, Wednesday and Friday.... the rest of the week I might be an older woman with a taste for the bohemian and too much red wine..

Fekko · 06/02/2018 21:15

God, why the hell not?

WiggyPig · 07/02/2018 14:30

I opened that list hoping to laugh at it and got as far as

POSSIBLE TRIGGER WARNING
Autigender: a gender that can only be understood in the context of being autistic. Meant for autistic people only.

Fuck the fuck off with their stupid lists of stupid patronising twee genderbollocks. How fucking dare they. I'm autistic, and we have enough problems without being told that our social awkwardness or our feelings of being "wrong" or our inability to adhere to social (including gender) convention makes us transgender FFS.

In Scotland this has extended to teaching toddlers with additional needs to conform to gender roles or be labelled trans: twitter.com/ActualDykez/status/935955090749390854

"Autigender" is a real thing but not the way these self-absorbed tumblrinas think it is.

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 07/02/2018 16:16

Thanks, WiggyPig. Another person on the spectrum here. I agree with your feelings about the autigender nonsense.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 07/02/2018 16:21

Signing in as another autistic person. I was really offended by the idea that the word 'autigender' had to be prefaced by a trigger warning.
Also people have started to self-identify as autistic, so the whole thing (identifying as autigender only if you're autistic) seems meaningless.

MissMoneyPlant · 07/02/2018 18:11

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it to upset anyone. I'm being investigated for ASD myself, I guess I just found the whole thing so ridiculous it didn't even register as mattering enough to cause offence. If that makes any sense.

SoFancy · 07/02/2018 18:15

Me and DH are toying with the idea of an identity swap.

Me black Caribbean male, he white Irish female.

He could then get int to he changing rooms when DD goes swimming to wash her hair properly, and I could scare a few guys at the urinals Wink

WiggyPig · 07/02/2018 18:43

Not upset and certainly not with you MissMoneyPlant - it’s important to see this nonsense even if it is enraging!

TheGoalIsToStayOutOfTheHole · 08/02/2018 06:20

That list of genders is insane. I have no idea if its meant to be a pisstake or not?

Another one not impressed at all with autigender, being on the spectrum myself. Ridiculous, if its true, and ridiculous if its a joke,

Slitherout · 08/02/2018 06:46

Based on my very real and deep feelings that no-one can question else they're othering me I now identify as Finland, the country, on Mondays and Tuesdays, a 6 year old girl on Wednesdays and for certain parties, Christmases and Easters, and the 7th Duke of Westminster the rest of the time. Anyone who fails to agree with this, treat me with the right attitude depending on my 'image' that day or says they don't understand is phobic.

Slitherout · 08/02/2018 06:48

Oh and I won't be having surgery because it's painful and nasty, everyone needs to accept my woman-fjords!

SteX · 08/02/2018 06:52

Lionel Messi!

InfiniteSheldon · 08/02/2018 06:53

I will be Princess Sheldon a noted member of our Royals and hence entitled to my share of the civil list monies

MissMoneyPlant · 08/02/2018 12:12

Another one not impressed at all with autigender, being on the spectrum myself

Bit of an aside, but there seem to be a lot ASD women on MN. As a result of this I have got the impression that women with ASD think in a very sensible, logical way, (Smile) so it is no wonder so many of us have peak-transed, because we have been baffled by gender stereotypes and so on for ages. However, there's a link between ASD and trans. It just seems so bizarre - I understand the "feeling different" thing, but not why that would make you agree with the irrational trans narrative.

HairyBallTheorem · 08/02/2018 12:44

Right now (suffering from some sort of tummy bug on top of the start of my period) I'd identify as a non-be-uterused person so that I could halve the physical discomfort I'm currently in.

Wonder if my body would magically cooperate with my brain.

WhatABaklava · 08/02/2018 12:51

Death Vader

hackmum · 08/02/2018 12:53

I'm going to ID as the Queen - you all have to curtsey before me now. Hah!

Or possibly Princess Margaret - there was a woman who knew how to enjoy herself.

WiggyPig · 08/02/2018 12:54

Because many of us are naive enough to be easily groomed Money plus it provides a huge online social network with minimal in-person contact, constant affirmation, a supposedly socially progressive narrative for why we've never fitted in, and a focus for obsession. It's a framework which is clear - it has a whole catechism that goes with it, rote learn that and you'll fit right in. And when everything seems odd to you, why not believe something else irrational? I know people who say hello to magpies FFS. Or think that if your left ear burns someone is being nice about you. Or that homeopathy works. At least with this set of beliefs, people may still think you're crazy or weird but this time EVERYONE around you agrees that it's society's problem not yours. I can totally see the appeal.

AuntLucy · 08/02/2018 20:52

I'd like to be a dolphin please.

MrGHardy · 10/02/2018 00:52

As a sea lion. That receives a daily belly rub.

BiologyNotBigotry · 10/02/2018 01:13

I'd like to self-identify as a very talented Argentine tango dancer. I shall be better than anyone else ever just by flapping my legs around & everyone will have to applaud & pay me lots to do it because I'm just so amazing. I won't bother with taking classes or anything, I've seen Strictly so I know all about it.
