Hallefuckinglujah!

MarSeeAh · 28/01/2018 01:21

If anyone was "bringing the union into disrepute" then it most certainly was not this man for speaking the truth!

Mxyzptlk · 28/01/2018 01:23

Mr Wilkes was absolutely right in what he said. What a ludicrous situation it landed him in.

just5morepeas · 28/01/2018 01:27

Nice to read this!

InionEile · 28/01/2018 01:31

So sad to see trans thought police invading every professional environment. What happened to free speech? I’m glad this teacher prevailed but sad he had to fight for it. Saying that kids should be allowed to wear what they like without identifying as trans and being wary of puberty blockers is not hate speech, just a different opinion.

PositivelyPERF · 28/01/2018 01:38

Happy days. It’s a day of miracles, my oldest actually listened to me tonight when I was talking about the vile Lily. I did have to sneak up to the mention of him, under the guise of asking if his uni ever no platformed anyone> Germaine Greer> feminism> Women being suspended from Labour Party Because they’re not permitted to say women can’t have a penis> women’s roles in the party> 19yr old boy being accepted in a role intended for females. Mumsnet vipers would have been proud of my drip drip drip technique. 😁

Devilish cunning PERF Grin

Very pleased to read about this outcome. The stress this teacher must have gone through though.

Beansonapost · 28/01/2018 01:54

Lovely! Smile

Does anyone have a share link? Can't read it!

AngryAttackKittens · 28/01/2018 05:38

Thanks, Cunning!

ALittleBitOfButter · 28/01/2018 05:42

It would be great to get a link to the original fb conversation. Anyone got it?

CaptainWarbeck · 28/01/2018 05:58

No comments as yet on that article!

MothQuandary · 28/01/2018 06:43

[A transwoman] said that when Wilkes wrote that he did not agree that trans women were women “that comment made me feel physically sick and the palpitations that I’ve been suffering from started again”.

I get palpitations every time I see “Transwomen are women”. Who do I complain to?

KayaG · 28/01/2018 06:50

Excellent news.

ApacheEchidna · 28/01/2018 06:55

Ooh wow. The world hasn't quite gone completely mad after all. That's nice.

guardianfree · 28/01/2018 07:31

A really important case. This shows that teachers are failing to safeguard children if they can't raise questions about grooming and drug use in children below the age of consent. It demonstrates the extent to which TA pressure groups are stopping adults in schools from carrying out their safeguarding responsibilities - and that must concern everyone.

Nuffaluff · 28/01/2018 07:52

Wow, I hadn’t even heard of this case. I can’t believe it went this far and I’m afraid his views will still be dismissed because he’s older.
It hasn’t come up at my school yet, but when the issue does I will say exactly the same thing as him. Sounds like I might have to be prepared to risk losing my job over it!

guardianfree · 28/01/2018 07:59

Nuffaluff
Don't lose your job! Gender non conforming children need adults who can and will safeguard them, not those who call them 'brave and heroes' and ignore them being groomed and medicated

Trangendertrend has some good and balanced school resources - and I think they are currently being updated:
www.transgendertrend.com/schools-resources/

If you do get any training, apart from the inevitable breaches of the Equality guidance and fake suicide statistics, look out for any suggestions that adults should keep disclosures from transgender children confidential - breaking rule 1 of safeguarding!

I really wish he had said something like this in his statement. Or just used the word safeguarding.

"They said that when Wilkes wrote that he did not agree that trans women were women “that comment made me feel physically sick and the palpitations that I’ve been suffering from started again”.

Any man who thinks this is any kind of defence of their disgraceful witchhunt is plainly ill.

I've never heard of anything so ridiculous. I've certainly, never heard anyone say something quite so nonsensical and expect to be taken seriously.

He must be walking around in a constant state of nausea every time someone picks up a dictionary.

Five years ago he would have been carted off, and sedated in a darkened room.

Guardian do you think this teacher is going to make another statement? Would it be worth contacting him to give him some bullet points about safeguarding and how it is now actively being undermined?

guardianfree · 28/01/2018 08:26

Datun
It's a good thing he's older and obviously less intimidated. I wonder how many thousands of teachers have been dissuaded from their core safeguarding role by fears of being accused of transphobia?

I'm inclined to think that people should be calling out the NUT about this. I don't do twitter (probably a good thing or I'd just self combust) but that might be the place to go. And of course, the DfE - their online complaints process might be a route for a complaint about pressure groups being allowed to train in schools, resulting in people prioritising political attitudes about TG issues over their safeguarding duties.

This probably ought to go on the education board. Anyone know how to do these Times share tokens?

2018username · 28/01/2018 08:26

Adding Wilkes to my list of heros! What is 'transplaining'? And 'guilty of transplaining possibly mansplaining' makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! Can these people hear themselves?

Another one to watch is twitter descended into total farce last night when David Davies tweeted that no women had a penis, the LGBTQIALPHABETSOUP+ conservative account called him a transphobic cunt and he publicy told them off and said he he was reporting them!

The world has gone mad and I am old.

2018username · 28/01/2018 08:28

Agree this is perhaps one for education/staffroom.

Mner · 28/01/2018 08:28

This is great newsGrin
