The fightback starts.

Hopefully this nonsense will peak trans another tranche of people. Unbelievable that the union felt there was a case to answer, but thank God common sense prevailed.
The idea that it's not acceptable for a teacher to state the fact that transwomen are not women has been "really impacting" my levels of sanity!

Nuffaluff · 28/01/2018 08:35

guardian
Thing is, I recently had some safeguarding training. The woman was really good, really knew her stuff about how we should protect children. The law, the correct procedures to follow, signs to look for etc.
However, she knew nothing about the issues we speak of here.
We were discussing how even very young children should receive sex education so that they know if someone is doing something that feels wrong.
She said ‘yes, I’ve seen a new resource coming out that says this is what a girl looks like and this is what a boy looks like - it should help children to have more awareness about their bodies’.
I don’t think that resource was what she thought it was. It sounds suspiciously like something I’ve seen on here promoted by Mermaids I think.
Most people are just not well informed about the politics surrounding this. I don’t think any of my colleagues are.
The first time they hear about it will probably when they receive their training in how to know when a child is trans. They won’t be well informed enough to object and will probably accept what the ‘expert’ says (the ‘expert’ who wrote the materials).
Thanks for the link though, I will print it off so I have it ready.

What is 'transplaining'?

I always thought it was when trans-identified males tell women how to be a woman - similar to mansplaining but with a bit of a twist. Eg The TIMS telling women they should wear high heels, getting catcalled in the street is a compliment and they aren't responding correctly etc

orionlow · 28/01/2018 08:41

It makes a nice change from the shite burbled by that vacuous idiot Natasha Devon that’s splattered all over the TES homepage!

guardianfree · 28/01/2018 08:41

Nuffaluff
You are absolutely right about teachers not knowing. And when they get a gender non conforming child, they google, and see GIRES and Mermaids promoted by the DfE so assume that the advice is safe
.
And of course, people just accept what an 'expert' tells them. It's only when you stand back and apply your safeguarding knowledge that the 'professional dangers' become apparent.

GinAndSonic · 28/01/2018 08:45

I also was Hmm at the palpatations bit.

I get being upset at reading something that cuts a bit close for you, but to have that level of reaction to it is unhealthy and they should probably seek help for their mental health.

NaturalWoman · 28/01/2018 08:50

boys and girls should be able to wear whatever they want without anyone jumping to the conclusion that they are transgender

How on earth this can have been considered to be anything other than a common sense statement, I do not know.

Surely it just means "it's ok not to conform to narrow, stereotyped gender norms".

Queenofthedrivensnow · 28/01/2018 08:51

So excited and just found him on twitter

Datun · 28/01/2018 08:51

From what I understand transplaining is people telling trans people all about trans. Having an opinion about it, in other words.

You're not allowed to explain to a Trans person anything about trans.

Because, talking about the dangers of transing children, prison statistics, or AGP is forbidden. So they pretend that it's 'transplaining'. Keep your nose out!

Ignoring the massive elephant in the room which is how they can 'womansplain' what woman means. That, obviously, is completely fine.

They can tell you exactly what it means to be a woman because it's a feeling deep inside. And you must listen, and change your viewpoint of it means to be a woman. Despite, you know, actually being one.

But talking about statistics, evidence connected to transgenderism? Nooo.

NannyOggsKnickers · 28/01/2018 09:04

There is a real issue here around safeguarding and the sex neutral language encouraged by TAs.

The current thinking in safe guarding and sex education is to encourage young children to use the anatomically correct terms for their primary and secondary sex organs. This is a measure designed to protect them from grooming by peodophiles as there is evidence to prove that they have a preference for babyish or metaphorical language for these parts.

It also helps children to take ownership of their bodies and understand what is private and what isn’t.

So making this language fuzz and arguing that sex is a spectrum rather than gender as a spectrum directly contradicts current practice and could have potentially harmful effects on young children.

SpartacusReality · 28/01/2018 12:09

For once the comments below are almost all in support, and recognising this craziness. I had to scroll quite a long way down before finding one in disagreement. I don't know if they moderate out negative comments but it seems a lot of people are being peak transed.

Weezol · 28/01/2018 13:38

Things I thought I'd never say...today, I will be getting The Sunday Times.

I lost patience with The Guardian a while back, but yesterdays trans prisoner twaddle was the death blow.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 28/01/2018 14:20

Thanks for sharing OP - I hadn't heard of this particular case. I have shared with DH and this is the first time ever he thinks there might be a point in me worrying about the GRA or transactivism.

HerFemaleness · 28/01/2018 14:43

Who are these people who can't cope with disagreement? You don't see Muslims and Christians rolling around the streets in agony, tears rolling down their cheeks screaming ''these atheists are invalidating my existence with their unbelief''.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 28/01/2018 16:21

I just saw, Roy has tweeted Jennifer James. I love that he sought her out :)

NaturalWoman · 28/01/2018 17:45

Do you have a link? I don't do/understand twitter!

LangCleg · 28/01/2018 17:48

NannyOggsKnickers you're so right about safeguarding. Decades of research, knowledge and painstaking creation of educational resources are all being thrown in the bin. The consequences will be wide-ranging and serious.

SpecialFrog · 28/01/2018 17:54

How can we get letters of support to this bloke? I dont suppose he is well RadFem connected

SpecialFrog · 28/01/2018 17:55

Oh...he is taken care of on Twitter. Good. I dont twitter

SpecialFrog · 28/01/2018 17:55

SchrodingersFrilledLizard · 28/01/2018 18:07

Hooray for Mr Wilkes!

And "transplaining"?

LefkosiaTigers · 28/01/2018 18:52

I commented on the article.

Despite being a diehard leftie, I have taken out a subscription to the Times. I emailed to tell them that I am subscribing directly in response to their stance on trans issues.

It beggars belief that this case warranted any action at all and didn't simply get the complainants dismissed for being ridiculous.

NaturalWoman · 28/01/2018 18:59

Thank you, Beyond

ALittleBitOfButter · 28/01/2018 19:26

People hear that palpitations nonsense then assume that the Marie thug on 'hunger strike' is a delicate flower damsel-in-distress who is locked up in a tower unable to straighten their rippling tresses. And was probably arrested wrongly for jaywalking (so easy to do if you're checking your nails!). The dear lamb.
