No punches pulled (but no names named either, probably sensible):

Oh my. Rod Liddle, eh. I can't say I'm a fan, but it's quite good to have someone who will argue the case so forcefully without feeling the need to respect anybody's sensibilities. And the last five lines are brilliant.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 25/01/2018 08:17

Worthy of an extract I think

"But that’s Momentum for you: resolutely male and not above bullying and hounding women who disagree with its views. Last week Momentum published its shortlist of candidates for regional chairs. There were 17 candidates. And 17 of them were men. So there you are, girls — meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Except that sometimes, beneath the hipster beard, he’s wearing a nice frock."

MorrisZapp · 25/01/2018 08:20

Fucking A.

Journalism on this is like sharia law. One male voice counts for like, ten female ones. Shit but true. Thanks Rod, we owe you a beer.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/01/2018 08:59

Agree with being glad that it was a male reporter - it shows its not just women being hysterical.

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 09:17

It’s bloody awesome isn’t it. I owe the man a lovely pink girlie cocktail for that. Everyone happy? Let’s get more press. We needed that to kick off the debate. What a mensch.

RedToothBrush · 25/01/2018 09:45

The fact he scorns feminists in the article and says that perhaps he should be glad they get their comeuppance but hes not, is quite something and only serves to add to the point.

bambambini · 25/01/2018 09:56

Well feminism has probably brought us to this point - i see more women/feminists pushing the TW are women mantra and inviting TW into every female area - than i see men do. It is biting feminism on the bum.

LangCleg · 25/01/2018 09:57

Yes. Specific appeal to anti-feminist men to get onside.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/01/2018 09:58

A great article!

RagingWoman · 25/01/2018 09:58

I found it rather sneery and condescending. Almost like he wants to look like he's supporting woman (for the kudos) but secretly he thinks we're all equally ridiculous.
Mind you, is there anyone Rod Liddle likes and respects?? (other than Toby of course) Hmm

RagingWoman · 25/01/2018 10:02

"And there’s a certain pleasure to be gained from seeing the likes of Linda Bellos and Germaine Greer comprehensively outvictimed."

Thats not exactly supportive...

allTERFSareequal · 25/01/2018 10:05

Whatever his motives, it's good to see this issue discussed from a non-TRA perspective. What are the comments like?

MrPan · 25/01/2018 10:09

RL has no investment in any of this. It's rther like Boris Johnson (from the same Spectator stable) who just sees public and private life as an intellectual exercise. No other dimension. White priviliged male at play.

In this case RL is simply wanting to batter Labour/Momentum with the heads of feminists because he is bored, and is paid to be controversial.

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 10:10

Sorry you aren’t happy about it, I think it’s great. I’ve had a few messages from men on the right who have said they agree with him, and stand with us. It’s flippant yes, but firmly on our side. I’m pretty happy with it.

anonymice · 25/01/2018 10:14

I don't know about any support being better than none. A lot of the people who are anti trans and follow me on Twitter are right wing evangelical types whose opinions I find not in tune with mine at all. They are all for free speech to criticise transactivists but get pretty touchy if you suggest Trump might be a less than great president. I don't think seeing trans ideology critiqued by the likes of Rod Liddle and Ella Whelan cheers me up much at all tbh. The first comment is instructive - going on about the cancer of gender deviants eating up Western society. Which is not why I am gender critical tbh.....

Collidascope · 25/01/2018 10:23

I think it's a good article. Yes, it's written from a right wing perspective and he's done the right wing thing of saying lefties are frothing, raging, screaming etc., but it's got all the facts in there, and he's actually managed to explain that the crowdfunder was about keeping self identifying trans women off AWS, not those with a GRC -something no other journalist or indeed TRA seemed to grasp, despite it being made very clear in the description.
Well done, Hammer, or whatever you new name is! And well done, Rod... Not something I ever thought I'd be saying.

Bluelady · 25/01/2018 10:23

Nobody could ever accuse me of having any affection for Rod Liddle but this is great. If this is how one of the biggest misogynists you could find views the situation it just shows how bad things have got.

Callmejudith · 25/01/2018 10:26

Wow this is amazing. I might even be brave enough to put that on FB

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 10:27

Quite Bluelady.

BeyondWitchbitchterf · 25/01/2018 10:28

A+ from me.

Especially that (after saying the bit about certain famous feminists) he does say he has a soft spot for radical feminism.

Of course it isn't perfect - it's coming from a male perspective that will rarely 100% align with ours - but it certainly mimics popular thought better than the Tra lot and certain news outlets.

Catabogus · 25/01/2018 10:30

No, but surely any coverage in the mainstream press is a good thing? Bringing it to a more general audience and all. Even by Rod Liddle.

Catabogus · 25/01/2018 10:30

X posts with just about everyone

guardianfree · 25/01/2018 10:31

If this delusional cult is to be challenged then this needs to be in the mainstream. Uncomfortable as it is, much of what Rod Liddle says IS what is said by many people - "hah - so feminists are now getting what they've doled out, etc etc".
This issue WILL have huge negative consequences, not just for women but for men as well and until the batshit proposals get the oxygen of publicity and everyone realises that we are about to change our laws to favour delusions and oppression, then we will have to accept that many allies will not be comfortable ones.
This is a massive fight and sadly, keeping it within the confines of politically correct channels will ensure that it is lost.

HerFemaleness · 25/01/2018 10:32

Strange bedfellows Grin

KissMaCis · 25/01/2018 10:33

If we are going to get any where we have to ally across politics. Tribalism is what keeps us in a box.
