Mumsnet twitterati revisited

A while ago (can’t remember when, probably about a year) there was a push to encourage gender-critical mn-ers to join twitter and boost support for gender critical voices.

I just wondered how everyone’s getting on? I had a break of a few months for a house move, but am now back and encouraged to see that there seems to be a far bigger radfem community than when I first joined. I now have 275 followers, including some people I really respect which I’m quite proud of considering that I’m relatively new to the scene and don’t have anything overly insightful to contribute.

Has anyone else noticed this? There are a good few people over there I strongly suspect of having originated here, but couldn’t tie handles to user-names (obviously for good reason!).

I mention on my bio that i love Bear(but in words), that should be clue enough!!

RagingWoman · 20/01/2018 22:22

Also WomansPlaceUK, FeministRoar, AnneRuzyloXX, JessicaEaton are good people on Twitter

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 20/01/2018 22:36

I've just started lurking on Twitter for the last month or so, I've posted once or twice but I find it a bit scary as I use my real name. Don't know why 'cause my employers and most people I know are pretty sensible and gender critical, but some of the TRAs on there can be pretty savage.
I've really enjoyed the discussions though and learning from a lot of feminist posters on there.
I really like Feminist Chat here though as it's taught me a lot and helped me put a lot of my ideas into perspective and it feels like a comparatively safe space.
As many regular posters on here have commented before, it wasn't until I read some of the threads on here that I realised that I'm a radical feminist.

Teabagtits · 20/01/2018 23:23

I’ve used twitter for years and was referred here from there during pregnancy last year. I followed “feminists” on both sides of the debate as well as trans people through a collective hatred of political events but didn’t pay much attention to TRA or GC debate until far more recently. I have been unfollowed by quite prominent radical activists on both sides for being seen to follow people they disagree with. I’m not sure how that helps. I was told that following someone meant agreeing with them - even when I clearly didn’t. I don’t need that level of drama on what is essentially my Saturday night social scene...

I’d like now to follow more GC accounts but don’t want the drama or backlash from tras so keep it fairly separate from this issue. For now.

@Soulsearcher101

Whatnextxx · 21/01/2018 23:56

Sorry should have read @SoulSurvivor101 - lots of links to relevant articles

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 13:18

I started Twitter about two days ago.

My first follower was DrRadfem
My second was a random.
And my third, today, was someone here who I was sitting behind at the Manchester meeting and to whom I may have mentioned Mumsnet

I am excited every time I get a notification.

I use my real name and photo. No fucks given.

Hammerofthetwat · 22/01/2018 19:34

Hey, I’m active on there. Very active. I’m @SoylentGreen78 I’m not a leftie, though pretty much a moderate, but I am an angry woman. These issues cross parties. Chuck me a follow, and I’ll follow back.

AstraiaLiberty · 22/01/2018 19:45

@Hammerofthetwat That's a coincidence, I just followed you right before reading this!

I took a break from Twitter over Christmas because it got a bit much but am back now. Same name as here.

catgirl1976 · 22/01/2018 21:23

I've just changed my profile picture from me to something more anonymous due to worry about TRAs although its still my name. I may change that at some point if I'm worried about doxxing but I hate feeling like I can't stand up and be myself

SonicBoomBoom · 22/01/2018 21:24

Maid! If you're on twitter please pm me your @ thingy. I have loved your sciencey posts on here for years and years and I would be very honoured to follow you. Plus, I love when science people wade into the debate on twitter.

Hammer and Astraia I'm already following both of you Smile, (and Astraia, you me. Yeh!)

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 22/01/2018 21:48

I've got my name as my name and my twitter handle but I might change it as there are other users who have the same name as me. (which makes me feel a bit weird)

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 22:22

Hammer I got you.

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 22:23

And AstraiaLiberty

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 22:24

If you search for Fond Of Beetles, it’s me.

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 22:25

My profile pic is me being a transman for the night. That’s how it works, no?

MaidOfStars · 22/01/2018 22:26

I’m not very sciencey though. I am finding my way around still.

SonicBoomBoom · 22/01/2018 22:57

Got you Maid, orange tie.

MrsD do you mean your MN name?

Caillearchy · 23/01/2018 07:33

Hi everyone, I've been lurking Mumsnet for years and finally made an account.

I'm @caillearchy on Twitter

ShotsFired · 23/01/2018 07:43

We all have innate biases and preferences we don't even realise and we'll include those on accounts we set up.

For that reason I strongly suggest looking up a random name generator and picking the first one as any Twitter/SM handle you want to keep separate from your real life.

You can get sites which give you entire fake profiles - nationalities, sex, street addresses and (working) emails e.g. www.fakenamegenerator.com/

Ekphrasis · 23/01/2018 09:44

Labour to announce on Self ID today.

Use hashtag #LabourLosingWomen

Chchchchangeabout · 23/01/2018 10:26

I feel really nervous about this Ekphrasis. Wonder what they will say.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 23/01/2018 10:31

Love that random name generator ShotsFired...and surprised how many elements of my fake personality were correct (I realise it’s just conincidence!). Wise advice and think I will do this.

Chchchchangeabout · 23/01/2018 10:39

Oh just seen the buzz feed article. Yes, that's why I was feeling nervous.

Stopmakingsense · 23/01/2018 10:53

I have just reactivated my twitter account. I have put #LabourLosingWomen in the advanced search and then following tweeters who show up.
