So it's not one individual going rogue, this is official GFM policy
It can't be, though. Otherwise, we would have all had to provide photo ID to donate in the first place. And why are only some people being targeted?
You quite simply do not need to provide photo ID or social media info to donate to a fund of your choosing. Just think how many people donate to things like Children in Need by text, or by phoning up with their credit card number, for example. GoFundMe's role is to provide a means to collect donations, not to decide who is allowed to contribute.
Those who have been refunded, have you asked your bank if they have rejected an attempted transaction on your card and failed to notify you of this? My bank contacted me immediately when something suspicious happened with my card. If your bank says that your card appeared to have been used by someone else, with the name not matching, then fair enough - but they still should have told you!
I just can't see that GoFundMe would have access to what name a credit card has been issued in. If you provided proof to GFM that you were indeed called Anne Onymous, they are still not the ones who get to accept/decline a credit card. Surely that can only be something that your bank can do?
Does anyone know if JJ has been on to them about this? After all, it does say on their website that you keep every donation that you receive.
