What can we do to support her today? A mass trip over to Twitter?

Lottapianos · 17/01/2018 08:24

Sorry, out of the loop on this one - what's happening today? I'm a fan of Jess and would love to get involved in supporting her if she needs it

BelaLugosisShed · 17/01/2018 08:36

To paraphrase Daenerys Targaryen ( sorry ☺️) You have to see it to know.

Now she knows the level of pure misogyny surrounding Trans rights.

HTKB · 17/01/2018 08:48

She's so impressive isn't she? Her Twitter is full of vim, passion, wit, intelligence. Her interests are wide and varied. She's on point but warm.

Whereas my MP, whilst a perfectly nice man, has a Twitter feed 90% concerned with train delays.

LangCleg · 17/01/2018 08:50

I'm amazed she has the courage to hold her ground. I mean, if an anodyne, non-committal public position like this can cause such bullying and hysteria, surely it says something? Surely people CAN SEE?

ALittleBitOfButter · 17/01/2018 10:17

Can someone post a twitter link? I'm not on it so can only get in with a direct link.

Thehairthebod · 17/01/2018 10:21

Has Jess peak transed?

Badgerthebodger · 17/01/2018 10:27

I can’t really follow it I hate Twitter!

Has she said something to Venice Allen along the lines of gender is a load of shit? Then the TRAs have piled on?

PricklyBall · 17/01/2018 10:31

She survived this pile on back in November:

McTufty · 17/01/2018 10:37

I think people are asking her to condemn the Gofundme campaign and she hasn’t answered

Vicxy · 17/01/2018 17:10

I think people are asking her to condemn the Gofundme campaign and she hasn’t answered

She won't answer IMO because she agrees with the campaign. Jess is very much for womens rights, I am sure I read she actually used to (or currently does) work with abused women. Jess will also know that women are held back in terms of politics and thats why female only shortlists are needed. No way will she answer, as saying she agrees with it will end in more rape threats (I read an interview with her where she says in one day she had 600 threats of rape and violence) but saying she disagrees with it is false.

Vicxy · 17/01/2018 17:12

Where is she getting grief now please? just checked her timeline and I can't seem to find anything..though I am still not that great on twitter so may be missing it..

PricklyBall · 17/01/2018 17:13

Yes, Jess did work in women's shelters. I seem to remember her saying once (in connection with men's rights activists who've occasionally tried to bring legal actions to gain employment in women's refuges) that the one she worked in used to regularly get MRAs phoning up and whining "but why can't I come?" So I suspect that she's fully on-board with the argument that self-ID opens the floodgates to a whole load of predators and piss-takers who will exploit sloppily drafted legislation to muscle into women's spaces.

IrkThePurist · 17/01/2018 17:23

I think its this thread;

Interesting. I've always found her to be a loud-mouthed boor who loves the sound of her own voice, is unnecessarily aggressive, and displays all the behaviours she claims to abhor in men.

Horses for courses.

IrkThePurist · 17/01/2018 17:34

I dont think shrinking violets could hack working in women's shelters, or as MP's.

BertrandRussell · 17/01/2018 17:46

“Interesting. I've always found her to be a loud-mouthed boor who loves the sound of her own voice, is unnecessarily aggressive, and displays all the behaviours she claims to abhor in men.”

Blimey. What behaviour would those be, then?

OP posts:
Vicxy · 17/01/2018 18:24

Oh its still on the old thread then. Thought there had been a new development or something.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 17/01/2018 19:18

"a loud-mouthed boor " being a euphemism for a working class woman speaking in public

BertrandRussell · 17/01/2018 19:20

"Unnecessarily aggressive" a euphemism for a woman of any class standing her ground.

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 17/01/2018 19:31

"Loves the sound of her own voice" a euphemism for a woman who says anything apart from "I agree with him"

OP posts:
newtlover · 17/01/2018 21:33

I've heard her talking about DV she is knowledgable (properly knowledgable because she's actually done the work) and committed. Whereas all these idiots on twitter have never actually tried to help anyone.

53rdWay · 17/01/2018 21:41

This thread from yesterday I'm guessing: twitter.com/jessphillips/status/953181376320360453

PricklyBall · 17/01/2018 21:46

They are bonkers, aren't they?

53rdWay · 17/01/2018 21:47

Also interesting how she says in that thread she was on the committee that recommended the GRA, and that the debate on Twitter is vicious and name-calling on all sides. But no, not good enough: she HAS to recite 'trans women are women' and condemn anyone who says otherwise, or she's no better than the hateful TERFs.

howonearthdidigethere · 17/01/2018 22:14

She was linked in a tweet around midday, calling her a TERF for retweeting Meghan Murphy, but it was gone within the hour.
