I've recently become addicted to a Gofundme campaign. Every time I press refresh the total raised has jumped up and I don't seem to be able to stop.

I'm trying to stay within Mumsnet rules here, so obviously I can't link or promote it.

Does anyone else have this enjoyable problem?

They don't care about transmen.

They don't need to, as transmen are obviously protected by their male privilege.

irretating · 16/01/2018 12:07

I've viewed the gofundme page so often it's crept it's way on to the most visited websites selection on my homepage. Grin

I'm seeing some very interesting discussions coming from sharing this on facebook. Also some very depressing ones. Young woman claiming that women don't face oppression because of biology. Nobody can see what you have in your knickers therefore men don't oppress women because of our biological difference.

FreckledLeopard · 16/01/2018 12:14

I haven't read the whole thread but does anyone know how this campaign is being organised? I've donated but £20,000 on legal fees is peanuts (I'm a solicitor). Are any lawyers involved behind the scenes who can work on a pro bono basis? This is a great campaign but I fear it'll need more money and some good lawyers. Happy to assist (this isn't my general area of law - I do commercial litigation but happy to help out if I can) - if anyone involved wants to PM me, I'd be happy to see what I can do to help.

irretating · 16/01/2018 12:20

Email Jennifer James, she's put her email address in one of the updates of the gofundme page.

PricklyBall · 16/01/2018 12:25

Agree Leopard - though I do seem to remember (might have been one of Jennifer James' early tweets on this) that their initial legal advice that this was a case worth taking on was given pro bono - so they may have some lawyers able to work pro bono on the actual case. Presumably though, they'd need a good safety net - if they lose, could they be liable for the other side's costs?

LangCleg · 16/01/2018 12:30

One of the updates says the target will be regularly updated but that £100k is the absolute top end of what would be needed.

MorrisZapp · 16/01/2018 12:48

Best thread ever. Finally we turn words into meaningful action, and boy do the misogynists hate us for it.

Boo hoo you big whinyarses. Define woman then we'll go from there. 'Show your work' as they say on twitter.

They don't care about transmen. They don't need to, as transmen are obviously protected by their male privilege.

Except they aren't. The one and only incident I'm aware of where a transperson was raped, it was a transman who was shocked and distraught to realise that they couldn't identify out of it.

"I kept telling him I was a man" that poor individual sobbed to the police afterwards.

Violent men do not rape identities, they rape biology. Your consent, feelings about it and authentic 'inner self' are utterly bloody irrelevant, and how you dress and present yourself and see yourself are also irrelevant.

It's rather like India Willoughby said on CBB, which I found very sad for them: effectively that everyone could be forced to use the pronouns and say the right things - but IW had realised that no one really believed what they were saying and they couldn't be made to, it was an empty token gesture of politeness. And the massive majority of the time no one has any difficulty in picking up on the actual biological sex of the person in front of them. Several people mentioned on various threads that having seen carefully staged, carefully lit photographs of IW they had always felt they 'passed' (hate that word, but can't think of a better one) very well. However when seen on camera, moving, talking, facial expressions, body language - the male biology is very obvious.

PoirotDidIt · 16/01/2018 15:16

They don't care about transmen. They don't need to, as transmen are obviously protected by their male privilege.

Even if this were true, that means they think transwomen and femme people will be attacked not for being trans, but for being feminine.

Yet still can't think why the most feminine of beings - females - might also be attacked.

LangCleg · 16/01/2018 15:21

You know this. I know this. Everyone with functioning synapses knows this. The MRAs among transactivists know this too but obviously don't care.

But the rest? They are so lost in pomo navel-gazing that they really, truly, genuinely, utterly, believe this. Transmen have male privilege so have no need for any affirmative action. I know it's difficult to get your head around a mass delusion this painfully stupid, but I'm afraid it's how they see it.

YY. That's exactly it.

The Labour Party just changed the person responsible for discipline, and rumours are that the donor list is being searched for members so that they can be expelled. I am pleased I have remained a member if it means I can be kicked out for rampant TERFery.

Glitterypinksoap · 16/01/2018 19:35

They are seriously going to expel women members for this?

Labour does not believe biological women should have legal rights. Ok, then we all know where we stand.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 16/01/2018 19:38

But they won't expel the racists or anti-semites!

Who is the new head of discipline? When is this going to hit the press?

ATeardropExplodes · 16/01/2018 19:41

They are not having another penny off me if they are unable to fucking define what creature I am! Luckily I already cancelled my subs when they changed the goalposts.

ReluctantCamper · 16/01/2018 19:41

I'm a labour member and signed up with my full name. they can piss right off if they expel me for this. I'll never stop talking about it. They're supposed to be a political party, not a religion. Ideas should be able to stand up to scrutiny.

ReluctantCamper · 16/01/2018 19:42

I fucking am sparticus

ThomasRichard · 16/01/2018 19:44

Another named member here. I am quaking in my non-existent kitten heels. Not.

SweetGrapes · 16/01/2018 20:00

I am on it with my real name. Have voted labour always but not a signed up member.

Maybe I should sign up to get kicked out!

Akire · 16/01/2018 20:03

They only information they have is your name or part of your name. That’s not enough to kick you off? I’m a member but there must be lots of people with my name on party. Will they just expel us all?

ATeardropExplodes · 16/01/2018 20:05

im going to have to make another donation in my real name arent i? I'll do it in the morning, as in bed now.

Spinsterf · 16/01/2018 20:05

I'm a member and donated in my real name. I don't believe they will expel anyone, despite all the transwacktivists demanding it, but am quite happy to turn myself in to any 'head of discipline' if anyone has the e-mail address of such person.

Glitterypinksoap · 16/01/2018 20:10

The list signed on the go fund me page gets longer every day, and I thought women membership was already an issue for the party? They're going to look a bit........ ridiculous..... if they expel the majority of their women members, it will make a public scandal. Not to mention it's going to prove pretty much exactly what those women are saying. Labour is for penises only.

I rather wish Jennifer James would compromise her principles a little and let the Sun, Mail et al write articles about this, the general public need to know exactly what is happening and what the party stands for.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 16/01/2018 20:12

Huffington Post says New head of discipline is Christine Shawcroft, and that immediately after being elected she chucked out several pending anti semitism investigations. I donated using my real name, which is an unusual one. Bring. It. On.
