Labour party invents new bollocks made-up non-existent definition for woman

labour.org.uk/members/get-involved/national-youth-elections-2018/

Sixteen uses of the word 'self-defining woman'. Zero uses of 'female', 'biology', or plain 'woman'.

'Woman' is now literally meaningless. A woman can be a bog-standard heterosexual teenage male (Lily Madigan), if he says so.

And obviously with half the places reserved for 'self-defining women' (not 'women', 'self-defining women'), then there's not really any reason why men wouldn't define themselves a women, is there?

If misogynistic shits like Lily Madigan can 'self-define as a woman', well ALL men are women, aren't they?

The whole bloody human race is 'self-defined women'.

Stupid Labour.

"Oh awesome becunted one, would you like a cup of coffee?" "Why yes thank you dicky".

Heh. Genuinely laughed out loud at that Grin

Cannot believe LMs tweets that have been posted in here..and Labour are absolute dicks. I don't feel I can vote for them..but I have no other option really. How on earth can both main parties not give a tiny bit of a shit about women (the ones with vulvas)

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 13/01/2018 07:45

I've donated - I'm not living in the UK at the moment, but I need to participate something or I'm going to come back to a country where we've been tumbled straight back down to the bottom of the hill we were climbing.

ATeardropExplodes · 13/01/2018 07:50

Donated. I DO live in the uk but am questioning whether we finally need to make the break.

Mner · 13/01/2018 07:54

Donated this morning

Ekphrasis · 13/01/2018 08:09

Oh wow, fantastic. I'd started reading this thread and then just gave up thinking "well, that's me not being able to vote for anyone now," (though I tend to switch between lib and lab) but that go fund me has given me hope!

Capelin · 13/01/2018 08:39

Just donated

MiMi78 · 13/01/2018 09:16

Am just thinking aloud here,
I know women are leaving the Labour Party in disgust, but would a massive influx of women becoming members be an advantage, those who shout loudest get heard so to speak, and strength in numbers.
It probably wouldn't happen at the moment, as a lot of women aren't aware this is even going on.
But as Lots of us reach peaktrans, surely the more of us there are in there, the more likelihood we can stop this absolute gaslighting bollocks.

ellaoldie · 13/01/2018 09:50

Don't want to cast a damper on things but I can't understand on what basis the legal challenge could be made. I thought Equalities Act allows provision for a single sex in certain circumstances but doesn't require it. My reading is there's nothing in there that could compel the Labour Party to define women biologically although if it chose to do so the Act would allow it to fight a challenge from transwomen without a GRC. Or have I misunderstood? Any lawyers on here?

PricklyBall · 13/01/2018 10:03

It's still worth doing - one of the constant refrains from the pro-TRA politicians is "women, you have nothing to fear, the single sex protecrions in place - all women's wards, HCPs, etc., are not threatened by trans rights and you're all being hysterical" (provocative word chosen deliberately, because in my experience the pro-TRA political lobby do love to slip in the odd misogynistic epithet). Even establishing that this was a pile of horse shit and that yes, we are threatened and no it's not hysteria would at least sort out the terms of engagement for the fight.

I also love the fact that this is real grass-roots collective action - women giving an average of about 20 quid each, some more, some less (from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs Grin), and raising over 2.5K in half a day! That's just fabulous.

LangCleg · 13/01/2018 10:04

It's here: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/section/104

The Equality Act 2010 specifically allows for AWS in political parties (which would otherwise be discriminatory and illegal) based on the protected characteristic of SEX. As gender reassignment (not self-ID) is also a protected characteristic, GRC holders are also eligible for AWS. TIMs without a GRC aren't allowed.

PencilsInSpace · 13/01/2018 10:05

I'm not a lawyer either but looking at Fair Play for Women's analysis it appears that women only shortlists are only permitted on the grounds of the protected characteristic of sex. So they don't have to have all women shortlists but if they do, they can only be open to actual women and transwomen with a GRC.

Self-ID'd transwomen may have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment but they do not share the protected characteristic of sex with women.

LangCleg · 13/01/2018 10:07

PS @RadFemLawyer is a good follow on Twitter at the moment!

catgirl1976 · 13/01/2018 10:09

I came on here to link to the gofundme but I see I'm late to the party

I have donated and I think it's entirely winnable

PocketCoffeeEspresso · 13/01/2018 10:09

Exactly - the labour party (and so many other places) are jumping the gun on self-ID, and we need to protest this now, otherwise, we'll get to the debate on self-Id and they'll say, 'well, this is how it has been working in practice now for a few years, and no women have complained'

We have to complain now.

ellaoldie · 13/01/2018 10:21

That explains it. Thanks Pencils and LangCleg

Chchchchangeabout · 13/01/2018 10:25

I agree with MiMi. Disappearing is not going to help our cause. Holding a vote is holding power. And those who are party members will get to vote on who leads the party and therefore potentially the country. So I say stay or join and make our voices heard.

Cuntysnark · 13/01/2018 10:33

Donated.

Linguini · 13/01/2018 10:39

I've donated.
Not sharing on Facebook though...

Last time I posted on FB (related to Rachel D. Trans-racial why can't someone change race but it's ok to change sex)... I posted a very mild TERFY type comment and got about 10 replies along the lines of "You are the most disgusting human I have ever come across" !!
Put me off using FB for anything outside of cute cats subject.

Very inspiring text on the fundraising page and it's heartening to see the real names of such great brave women behind it.

Let's get this!!!

Glitterypinksoap · 13/01/2018 10:40

Unfortunately the 'change things from the inside' rarely works - and hasn't so far despite all the work Anne Ruzlo and ilk have done against real and serious issues over this within the party, such as an entire group of council resigning - and there will be a reliance on people willing to put up with any amount of crap rather than have no voice/no one to vote for. There is in every party, and women can usually be relied on to put up, shut up and do things the nice way.

Unfortunately I think to leave en masse and be able to publically show the loss of membership and the obvious and serious imbalance in membership and leadership roles is the only thing that will get the media's attention. And that's what creates public knowledge, and poor publicity is what will give the Labour Party pause for thought.

Glitterypinksoap · 13/01/2018 10:43

side note: if you haven't heard Anne Ruzlo speak before then take a look on Youtube. She's amazing. If someone of her calibre can't make the Labour Party listen to her with all her experience and knowledge, and when she was actually working for them at the time, then I can be sure I have no chance of making them listen to me.

Linguini · 13/01/2018 10:44

But a successful law suit should surely make then listen?

mamas12 · 13/01/2018 10:59

Donated and a huge tanks to all the women taking this on

IrkThePurist · 13/01/2018 11:09

MiMi78
The problem is Labour already have women in the party, and if they aren't listening to long term serving members such as like Anne Ruzylo, then there's no reason to think they will listen to people who have just joined.

Women fold leaflets, stuff envelopes, and do door knocking and office work for free. We have to stop doing all of that, and leave.

Vote how you like but stop giving your money and free labour to them.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2018 11:12

I asked my cat if she was a cat (well, I said "are you a kitty?" in an obnoxiously cute voice, but still) and her response was to give me a vaguely irritated look and go back to sleep. I guess this means that she's legally no longer a cat.

(This "self-declared" stuff is such utter bollocks that it's either laugh or cry.)
