Allegedly to celebrate 100 years of the female vote.

Preview info indicates that among the prospective female celebs are two TW. Do we think that the gender debate will be one of the topics discussed in there? And could it be a disaster for the GRA bill? Interested in hearing others' views!

(Also Katie Hopkins planned for it. Cant help hoping that she gets a bullied in there Grin)

Exactly what I was wondering Always

HelenaDove · 06/01/2018 02:48

I tried to watch this tonight for the first time in well well over a decade because Amanda Barrie is in there

Then i saw that Dapper Laughs was going in.............and turned it off.

Shame. I like Amanda

DidIDoTheWrongThing · 06/01/2018 04:36

For forty plus years, India experienced the privileges handed to white middle classed men.

And now, having made the physical transition to no longer having a penis, is lecturing biologically born women on her idea of what a real woman is - the India version of what a real woman should be.

theaveragewife · 06/01/2018 04:58

It was interesting watching three intelligent, outspoken women be completely silenced by shrieks of ‘I am a real woman’. It mirrors the experience of so many, hopefully it will help the rest of the world see how ridiculous that is.

IndominusRex · 06/01/2018 06:49

I'm just browsing twitter and a lot of people aren't buying it. Thanks BB!

IndominusRex · 06/01/2018 06:54

Nadia definitely wasn't out. Most housemates found out when they left. I voted for her too, she was great.

QueenLaBeefah · 06/01/2018 07:19

Nadia didn't feel the need to mention that she was trans but it is all India bloody talks about. A boring, self absorbed arsehole who screamed at an 82 year old woman about being a real woman. That 82 yr old woman was working long before the sex equality act was introduced, before maternity pay and had to hide her sexuality for decades so as not to offend society.

If India could let go of 40 odd years of male socialisation she might learn something. But no, too busy dominating every conversation and making every interaction about themselves. She is a parody of womanhood and a failure of a human being.

Thehairthebod · 06/01/2018 08:38

If India gives the trans agenda a bad name and people start peak transing everywhere after this appearance she is going to get crucified by the TRAs.

AskBasil · 06/01/2018 08:56

OMG this is such brilliant TV. It's got levels of irony that are so wonderful. Big Brother gaslighting us, just like he does in 1984: 2 and 2 makes 4, India Willoughby is a woman.

Part of me feels really genuinely sorry for India because heobviously deep down knows he's not really a woman - s/he's a transwoman and that isn't the same. Doesn't mean it's worse, doesn't mean transwomen aren't entitled to respect and equality and decency and kindness, but it does mean they are not real biological women and deep down, I think most people know that, even if they virtue-signal by pretending they don't. And deep down, most transwomen know it too and know everyone's just pretending, which is why they shriek so loudly about how they're women.

India's over-reaction to Amanda's slip up, comes from a place of deep insecurity and I do feel sorry for her that she feels so defensive about her identity, that she has to make a song and dance about it when someone doesn't validate it It reminds me of those gangs where they stab each other for not showing enough "respect". It's male-pattern ego-protection acting out right there.

And that's where my sympathy for her ends. Because however compassionate you might feel about her insecurities, what she is doing, is absolutely classic male bullying of women: laying down the law about what's what and imposing her view of reality on them. It's what men have done to women throughout history, it's how they've imposed male supremacy on society for 6,000 years. I find it so deeply ironic that it's being presented as a celebration of the suffragettes, it's like some kind of post-modern TV experiment where there's a greater nod to Orwell than there has ever been. Outstanding. Grin

Ereshkigal · 06/01/2018 09:00

Brilliant take on it Basil! I'd forgotten the 1984 aspect of BB, but you're so right, whether or not that was the intention.

Ekphrasis · 06/01/2018 09:27

Excellent synopsis Basil!

makes me feel better for watching

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 06/01/2018 09:35

A bit depressing that the 'all women' days of BB were so dominated by this issue.

ForalltheSaints · 06/01/2018 09:44

I have given it a miss. I wonder if there should be a trade description for advertising purposes as to who is a 'celebrity' given some of the people on this show and the jungle one.

guardianfree · 06/01/2018 10:05

Excellent analysis AskBasil. That's exactly what I've seen. It's been fascinating! I become embarrassed watching India's evident 'fails' at mimicking a woman's gestures, walk etc. The cringe making moment when India sprawled on the sofa in the diary room with legs 'displayed' in an obvious attempt to present as a 'sexy' woman.
I had a look at twitter last night and it was fascinating how many negative tweets there were about India. Mainly reacting to the bullying and lack of acceptance of the apologies from an 82 year old lesbian (although the 'kind ageism' was astounding - Amanda and Ann are old and not up to date with trangendersim so India needs to cut them some slack)! But India's self obsession was repeatedly called out and so many spotted the negative comment about not liking drag queens. It was hilarious.
We really need some more more twitter savvy feminists calling out the irony.

It had been well worth watching India peak-trans viewers Grin

RedToothBrush · 06/01/2018 10:09

Compare Nadia in the first series she was in compared to the second. Nadia did not come across anywhere near as favourably in the second.

There have been accusations about how the show was edited. Nadia's series was the most explosive of all and included fight night. In which Nadia played a significant role.

Some of the housemates said afterwards that not everything was shown and the edit wasn't totally reflective of events.

AstraiaLiberty · 06/01/2018 11:55

I bet Anne Widdecombe is a massive TERF!

Sadly, here's a quote from Ann:

"I think gender and the differences between the genders are biological facts and I think that boys do go for the engines and the girls go for the dolls. And I don't see anything wrong with that."

India Willoughby apparently agreed with that and gave her a hug - I guess believing that strongly in gender ideology makes up for the accidental misgendering.

Ekphrasis · 06/01/2018 12:45

Honestly, this programme makes my brain hurt!

Ekphrasis · 06/01/2018 13:38

So watching thursday's.

Could be editing however twice IW has cut down or walked out of discussions about feminist issues. Abuse in the Catholic Church when Ann and Maggie wanted to discuss it. And walks out of a discussion about life choices women have taken such as Ann, who chose career over any relationships, presumably as at that time she had to in order to get anywhere. India can't be arsed.

Ekphrasis · 06/01/2018 13:40

Sorry, she walked out on Rachel taking about how journalists are only ever interested in women's love lives or lack of and the same isn't asked of men.

Ekphrasis · 06/01/2018 13:44

And then states she's sick of being with women now after 24 hours.

Elendon · 06/01/2018 13:46

Great post AskBasil. My thoughts exactly.

I thought that too about the over reaction coming from a place of insecurity and would add not actually belonging to this group.

It was quite a telling incident.

Elendon · 06/01/2018 13:51

Clearly IW is a man who has trans into a perceived idea of what it is to be a woman. IW may well believe that she is a real woman because she conforms to gender stereotyping. She does dress up nicely and looks like she is enjoying it (we all know why though).

Elendon · 06/01/2018 14:16

Well, IW said 'Joke'. I'm inclined to agree.
