everydayfeminism.com/2017/02/trans-women-not-biologically-male/

Just going to post this here and then go and do some deep breathing to try and control my frustration.

OP posts:

Biological sex is a social construct?
Oh yeah? Can you refund me the cost of my degree where I learnt the exact opposite?

Sites where comments aren’t allowed all tend to be an echo chamber of fools redefining language in their own copy books.

Oscha · 22/12/2017 16:48

mirandayardley.com/en/transwomen-are-not-women/ Here’s something to make you feel better!

Bloopbleep · 22/12/2017 18:24

Does she (yes I know what many here say but I’m going with modern convention) stop for breath? I found that so difficult to listen to. Was the video played at twice or more normal speed?

The science was very made up. I think I might make a video devising my own science...

Chromosomal testing is far more common these days with NIPT testing for chromosomal disorders in early pregnancy but also giving ability to discover the sex of the baby based on... chromosomes. How to debunk that science?

QueenLaBeefah · 22/12/2017 19:08

Poor Riley. never going to pass.

Copperkettles · 22/12/2017 19:37

This tickled me. I'd like to suggest a load of other science be viewed as a social construct from now on. The earth being round, er, gravity. Ooh maybe humans should be able to fly. And I'd like my disability to go away. Not all humans who have it are that disabled even so I'm just going to go with being mildly affected from now on

Ekphrasis · 22/12/2017 20:06

Argh! I had to read the transcript as I felt I'd cope better but half way through and I was silently screaming.

You're not wrong about the double think. Or like attempting to do bedtime with a five year old.

I mean, jeeeeezus, biological sex means biological sex! A NIPT test can tell you at 10 weeks gestation if you're carrying a male or female. And if there's any thing else going on like xxy. A female has all her eggs ready inside her mother's womb. That is biological sex!!!!

Ekphrasis · 22/12/2017 20:07

Oh gravity is totally a social construct.

RestingGrinchFace · 22/12/2017 20:10

Yes, because science isn't real-it's just a social construct. I blame an inadequate education system. No one can be that stupid without help.

Datun · 22/12/2017 20:13

It’s trying to make the word woman have a social meaning, rather than a biological one.

Because, as women across the globe know, if you socially change the way you present, you won’t be oppressed.

PolarBearGoingSomewhere · 22/12/2017 20:24

WTF.

Reminds me of a reality tv thing I watched once where someone said they'd had a nose job "so my kids will have great noses". Hmm

And there we all were thinking trans people were some sort of highly evolved whelk...

Don’t be a muppet laudanum, nobody here is saying that trans people aren’t human.

Lazylouse · 22/12/2017 20:55

I read the transcript too, the poor bloke doesn't have a clue, does he? If he believes what he says it is simply impossible to differentiate between men and women, and yet I suspect he actually can. After all, I'm pretty certain he knows his girlfriend is a woman.

SparklyUnicornTractors · 22/12/2017 20:58

I love watching TERFS froth at the mouth, it's great.

This is not frothing love, it's extreme boredom and disbelief that this silly stuff is supposedly said by grown ups.

  • Biology is a social construct, I heard it on the internet!
  • Don't be so silly
  • Rudeness and threats! You're denying we exist!

It's so adolescent it's painful.

FloweringDeranger · 22/12/2017 21:04

They are turning things on their head aren't they. Sex as a social construct: gender as an absolute. How can gender be an absolute reality? I've never seen babies born with make up and high heels on.

I do occasionally try to read their material to see their pov in case I've missed something but it is total bs.

BeyondAssignation · 22/12/2017 21:26

"Trans people exist"

And there was me thinking they were like the tooth fairy. Silly me.

BeyondAssignation · 22/12/2017 21:28

PS - it's TERFs. Little S.
Unless you've added to the lovely acronym (that totally isn't ever used as an insult)?

terfing · 22/12/2017 21:37

Sigh... more rubbish from Dennis the Menace...

Last I read, he is both non-binary AND a transgender lesbian?!?

SparklyUnicornTractors · 22/12/2017 21:53

But is he a retired trans lesbian kitten yet?

That has to be the best line I've come across so far. Way too much time on their hands.

mullmepopcorn · 22/12/2017 22:18

Lost for words again. It's like saying because people can fly in aeroplanes, and some birds can't fly, that people can be birds and flightless birds can be people.

Sure, you can remove someone's gonads, build them genitals, give them synthetic hormones. You then create a trans person.

Argh, you can't argue with stupid.

BatShite · 22/12/2017 22:31

Ah Riley. I genuinely wonder how many people he alone has peaktransed...he and his female penis and shaming lesbians (and rap victims!) into shagging people with penises. Re victims get a pass, for a short time. But your prejudices must be worked through in a timely fashion.

JAPAB · 22/12/2017 22:46

She does talk rather fast doesn't she. I don't think her knowledge of the workings and differences of the human body is at fault. What is at fault is that she thinks that the characteristics people use to infer someone's biological sex, make the biological sex.

She essentially saying the following. Biological sex is determined by several characteristics.

She points out most are changeable but acknowledges that chromosomes are unchageable.

But then essentially says that if you argue that biological sex is determined entirely by chromosomes then you are going your own way, as that is not how biological sex is determined because it has never been determined by chromosome alone, but by all these factors.

All is revealed when you make explicit the difference between determining something in the sense of inferring what it is, and in the sense of making it what it is.

As I say above, she seems to think that the characteristics that determine biological sex (in the sense of people ifrring someone's sex from these characteristics) are the characteristics that determine biological sex (in the sense of making it the sex it is).

BatShite · 22/12/2017 22:50

I don't think her knowledge of the workings and differences of the human body is at fault.

'She' believes 'her' penis is a female organ. 'She' also claims to be a lesbian. A lesbian is a female human attracted to female humans. Riley has little grasp on reality and is somewhat of a joke among gender critical, and trans people alike.

PricklyBall · 22/12/2017 22:54

If ever I needed further confirmation that JAPAB is deliberately contrarian for the sake of it, that last post has got to be it. For fucks sake, give it a rest mate. Penis are not now, never have been and never will be female organs no matter how much po-mo shite you spout about it.
