I just wanted to start to say thank you to some of those who have given me the courage to begin to speak out, too. The calmness and persistence in the face of absolute hate and vileness is really something. (And it must become very tiring to know that when you google your own name, the search box will autofill "...should die in a fire", so I wanted to add something psoitive to the mix!)

There's lots here on mumsnet that I am grateful to, but I will start with people I got to know elsewhere first.

Linda Bellos. I have only seen her name recently on this issue, but she's been inspiring me since I was a teenage radical, so very long ago. I can't tell you how happy I am that she is here and still fighting. Linda, thank you.

Glosswitch. She was one of the first they went for. She's brilliant and brave and funny and I am so glad she's writing. Glossy, thank you.

Sarah Ditum. Also funny and brilliant and calm and persistent. If you haven't signed up for her tinyletter, I suggest you do so immediately! Sarah, thank you.

Claire Heuchan. Fantastic, thoughtful, insightful writer. Also introduced me to the fact that the Glasgow Women's Library exists! Claire, thank you.

Miranda Yardley. Calm, devastating, and unbelievably persistent. Currently filleting Peter Tatchell on twitter. Miranda, thank you.

There's plenty more, and I'll add them later, bit by bit, but I wanted to get a start. I have begun threads to express my disappointment and anger at those that have drunk the kool-aid, so I thought I'd come here and express my joy and gratitude to those that are standing up for women. I hope this can become a long list!

And anyone's non-appearance on it doesn't mean they aren't wonderful or their work isn't appreciated, it just means they aren't known to me. This isn't a list of any in-crowd, and shouldn't be read as such. We're all doing what we can!

MN has helped me to understand I have always been a feminist, I didn’t really get it until I became a mother. Thanks! Flowers

This is a great list.

Can I also add pisacake to the list of posters on here.

Also Robert Winston telly medic for raising awareness of the medical risks and effects on future fertility of young people from drugs and surgeries.

People from all walks of life need to be hearing about how these issues affect and (legally could soon make things worse) for women and young people.

Elendon · 26/11/2017 08:37

Second all the great women mentioned on this thread and all the posters here whose contributions are invaluable to my understanding.

This is a great thread.

wrappedupinmyselflikeaspool · 26/11/2017 08:42

What a lovely thread. I’d like to add my thanks to all the women mentioned here. I can’t remember how I was introduced to gender critical feminism because it’s been about 5 years now that I’ve been lurking on twitter and reddit but my favourites are:

Rebecca Reilly Cooper for her logical reasoning and calm unpicking of gender identity.

Glosswitch for her tenaciousness and refusal to take any bull.

Julie Bindel for her tireless work on protecting and supporting women and girls who have sufferedfrom the more excessive effects of gendered society.

Helen Lewis and Janice Turner for raising their heads above the parapet in the news media.

The mumsnetters who started and continued the Spartacus thread. You are why I opened a mumsnet account and I am eternally grateful that I now have somewhere to come to discuss these issues and restore my faith that not everyone has taken leave of their senses.

Ekphrasis · 26/11/2017 08:43

Yes to Robert Winston.

And may I add Robert Webb? For helping to point out from a man’s perspective why patriarchy is crap.

Little Owen's work is never done, is it? All those women he has to tell to shut up. Must be tiring.

Ekphrasis · 26/11/2017 09:24

Lucy is holding up extremely well though. Good on her.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 26/11/2017 09:41

Yes, I want to add my name to those saying thank you. To the wonderful women on here Datun Anyfucker and many many more. I find in real life when discussing my concerns about womens' safety, my daughters' future, I often can't find the right words to express what I mean. The women here help me to find the words I need, thank you so much.

And a big thank you to all those in the public sphere putting their heads above the parapet. Jenni Murray, Germaine Greer, Miranda Yardley, all those listed above, too many for me to type! Thank you all.

I find Jones so frustrating! He can be so right on some things- but so wrong and so awful on others........

MaryMaryQuiteLovely · 26/11/2017 10:11

I'd like to thank the Terf Blocker. I followed some brilliant women from that list Grin

Magdalen Berns was definitely part of my peaktrans experience. She is fab

Bloody hell. This thread is making me tear up on a Sunday morning.

Can I add Mona Eltahawy, am Egyptian American feminist who is articulate, gets to the point and who I could listen to talk for hours.

AnnaMagdalenaGluck · 26/11/2017 10:41

Can I add my thanks. I'm usually a lurker on feminism boards, not having either the expertise or the ability to formulate sound arguments. I tend to panic and get flustered.

I foolishly ignored trans threads on here for a long time because I thought it was someone's hobby horse and didn't concern me. I feel ashamed that I didn't cotton on to what was happening much earlier.
I am very grateful to all the women already mentioned on here.

I am, and will contine, learning from you all.

BertrandRussell · 26/11/2017 11:12

"He’s shocking on this issue"
Absolutely. Breathtakingly so. But there are so few articulate commentators on the Left..Oh, he is such an idiot!!

HumphreyCobblers · 26/11/2017 11:14

Redtoothbrush, your posts are brilliant as well. So informative and clear.

Honestly I don't care how articulate he is on subjects where I agree with him (and there are plenty). I'm just watching the LP repeat the institutional othering of women all over again and its lead (as it was last time) by the articulate, terribly liberal types busy mansplaining what it is to be a woman. I

Its actually worse this time - I'm not even allowed an identity as a woman. If Labour had a discussion on the definition of 'what is a woman' before they changed it I missed that discussion entirely.

BertrandRussell · 26/11/2017 12:22

I know, CH8.

BertrandRussell · 26/11/2017 12:27

But I wish he'd stuck to politics!

cuirderussie · 26/11/2017 12:41

I wanted to look at Terfblocker but I'm blocked from it, I must be on it! ShockGrin

MaryMaryQuiteLovely · 26/11/2017 12:45

Yah Cuir

If you log out of twitter you will be able to see it.

PowderGreen · 26/11/2017 13:32

Miranda Yardley and Julian Vigo have been steadily at the forefront of this issue, even at the epicentre of leftist (and not liberal) circles for several years. They have both received the ire of those leftists who virtue obsessed and they have managed to spark discussions outside of feminist circles where it is most needed. This is truly a feat!

therealposieparker · 26/11/2017 13:49

Mona Eltahawy is a bit kool aid, I'm sad to report.
