I just wanted to start to say thank you to some of those who have given me the courage to begin to speak out, too. The calmness and persistence in the face of absolute hate and vileness is really something. (And it must become very tiring to know that when you google your own name, the search box will autofill "...should die in a fire", so I wanted to add something psoitive to the mix!)

There's lots here on mumsnet that I am grateful to, but I will start with people I got to know elsewhere first.

Linda Bellos. I have only seen her name recently on this issue, but she's been inspiring me since I was a teenage radical, so very long ago. I can't tell you how happy I am that she is here and still fighting. Linda, thank you.

Glosswitch. She was one of the first they went for. She's brilliant and brave and funny and I am so glad she's writing. Glossy, thank you.

Sarah Ditum. Also funny and brilliant and calm and persistent. If you haven't signed up for her tinyletter, I suggest you do so immediately! Sarah, thank you.

Claire Heuchan. Fantastic, thoughtful, insightful writer. Also introduced me to the fact that the Glasgow Women's Library exists! Claire, thank you.

Miranda Yardley. Calm, devastating, and unbelievably persistent. Currently filleting Peter Tatchell on twitter. Miranda, thank you.

There's plenty more, and I'll add them later, bit by bit, but I wanted to get a start. I have begun threads to express my disappointment and anger at those that have drunk the kool-aid, so I thought I'd come here and express my joy and gratitude to those that are standing up for women. I hope this can become a long list!

And anyone's non-appearance on it doesn't mean they aren't wonderful or their work isn't appreciated, it just means they aren't known to me. This isn't a list of any in-crowd, and shouldn't be read as such. We're all doing what we can!

bertrand for engaging with the utter insanity on that other thread

Obsessivenamechanger · 25/11/2017 09:51

Yes, thanks again to Datun - sent me a pm after my first post (under a different name).

Her posts are always clear, reasonable but . . well . . strong, for want of a better word.

GuardianLions · 25/11/2017 09:53

Flowers Anne Ruzylo for being an open non-gender conforming woman in a visible position and open about her gender critical views.

It has cost her a lot personally but will benefit all women and girls hugely in the long run. Keep up the fight sister!

DJBaggySmalls · 25/11/2017 10:01

Lovely idea for a thread, thank you for starting this.

I'd like to add a thank you to the female MP's speaking about this issue in the face of such hostility. Jess Phillips supports protecting womens rights.

Thank you Datun for your posts.

And thank you, Anne. You've worked tirelessly your whole life for other people.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/11/2017 10:13

YY to all these and all of you. This is the only place I feel l can discuss any issues at the moment, my dd’s can’t even discuss with me rationally at the moment and anyone else irl just smiles and nods like I’m a loon if I tentatively raise anything.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 25/11/2017 10:33

Adding my sincere thank you and for the women who have been physically attacked when protesting about their rights

women are being silenced and verbally attacked whenever they speak of not only their concerns but those of thousands of other women how has it got to this

Actually I can't believe I forgot the wonderful Gallusmag author of gender trander. Always has fully referenced posts, and when I started following all this, was one of the only places where you could read about these men and this politics. She does an amazing job

Backingvocals · 25/11/2017 11:19

Hadley Freeman is increasingly putting her head above the parapet on this. But yes I love Janice Turner for her relentless courage on this.

Caitlin Moran seems to be keeping her head down on this one Hmm. I’d guess she’s gender critical but feels it would be uncool...

Wincy79 · 25/11/2017 11:21

Thank you all on Mumsnet Feminism chat, i have been able to talk to my family and daughters who like me were "understanding" of trans issues and had no idea the law may change. The points and issues raised here are sensible and worrying and because of you all 5 women in a working class family have become gender critical, ta from us in Pompey. Your points and arguments are breaking through.

It's wonderful to see women I know about acknowledged, and equally wonderful to seen new names to find out about- thank you.

GuardianLions · 25/11/2017 11:37

Yes Quentin - I wanted to add a few more I think haven't had a mention:
Thanks to all the detransitioners and desisters vlogging, blogging and telling their stories
Thanks to the academics
Sheila Jeffreys
Alice Dreger
Julia Long
James Caspian
Thanks to other bloggers and writers
Cathy Brennan
Meghan Murphy
Thanks to all the activists and researchers giving their time, leafletting, picketing, and never giving up - who might want to remain under the radar for obvious reasons
Thanks to all the lurkers on MN too - for taking the time to digest gender critical thought, even though it has made you feel conflicted at times.
Flowers

DJBaggySmalls · 25/11/2017 11:46

Helen Steel, who physically put herself between a mob of angry trans activists and some women.

Helen has a lifetime of activism behind her, and has been treated badly by the police as a result.

Humpsfor20yards · 25/11/2017 11:49

Agreed- thank you all

CanalTrip · 25/11/2017 11:51

Laura Bates of Everyday Sexism

Caroline Criado Perez OBE who campaigned for women to be represented on bank notes.

QuentinSummers · 25/11/2017 11:51

Caitlin Moran is apparently "problematic" because "how to be a woman" is too "white and cis" and exclusionary of sex workers. The sheer idiocy of that statement is why i left an intersectional group i was in. As if a white woman could write an autobiography from any other perspective than a white one Confused

She got a hard time on Twitter and a general backlash from intersectional feminists so I'm not surprised she decided to keep her head down on this issue.

DJBaggySmalls · 25/11/2017 11:54

Jenny Harvey and Magdelene Berns, who are so articulate.
Meghan Murphy, stood up for women to her own government.

Catsrus · 25/11/2017 12:00

Yes,

Thanks to all who are putting themselves at risk for this. The fact that it's dangerous, in 2017, to stand up for the rights of women and girls to have safe spaces is pretty mind blowing. 😡

SecretHandshake · 25/11/2017 12:02

What a lovely thread!
I'd like to also thank everyone who wrote to their MPs or went to see them
All the women in secret groups organising
All the mumsnetters engaging and educating people here
You women are fantastic ❤️

fruitlovingmonkey · 25/11/2017 12:06

Thanks to all already mentioned.

I’d like to add transwoman Kristina Harrison who was quoted in The Times today and gave a really clear explanation of male privilege and why transgender people shouldn’t take the place of women.

Also, John Witherow, editor of the Times, for publishing so many gender critical articles in a time when so many other media outlets are shying away. I’m enjoying my subscription very much.

BeyondAssignation · 25/11/2017 12:14

Can I add everyone on Twitter that was vocal enough on the issue to be added to the "cunts" and "terfs" lists by the TRA's?

GrouchyKiwi · 25/11/2017 12:17

I am so thankful for the threads here on Mumsnet. They've really opened my eyes.

Ereshkigal · 25/11/2017 12:17

Helen Lewis

And glad Meghan Murphy gets a mention, she's amazing. The situation in Canada is worse than here I think.
