RAGE - is it just me?

Is it just me who has so much rage at the moment? I am not surprised that so many men are a problem but sadly being a lifelong cynic about them isn't helping my rage level.

If I told someone I was repulsed by their religious belief I could be sued for hate crime presumably?

Me too popchyk, she's the type of woman I'd love to be if I had the nerve ;)

UnicornInTraining · 04/11/2017 22:16

I wish I felt rage. Like Tammy I have been feeling distressed instead and ended up "outing myself" (perfect choice of words btw!) about my history of rape because I could not manage to hide how much of a mess I was. Cathartic, but I wish I had gone there at my own pace.

Still, I am a big supporter of the movement, and I do think that it is an essential step towards ending violence against women.

Thelilywhite · 05/11/2017 11:34

I feel rage too - at the men who assaulted and harassed me but at myself as well for not doing anything about it. (Late 7Os early 80s employee at BBC TV) I didnt tell my DH until all Jimmy Saville stuff came out. He doesn't know about other non BBC incidences though ,which all the recent coverage is bringing back. Just keeps asking me why I'm so quiet.
However as well as rage I am heartened to see so many women speaking out and hope the message is getting across that men cannot continue to abuse their power. Bit by bit we will dismantle the patriarchy...

Great article my Catherine Bennett in today's observer

Bravo Eleanor Laing (Deputy Speaker). She reported Daniel Kawczynski to a whip for pressurising a researcher to meet a wealthy businessman. "I feel strongly that women of my generation have got to stand up for the younger generation of women because that's how we will get cultural change."

We have heard some real shit from older women this past week so this is quite refreshing.

Slimthistime · 05/11/2017 23:33

If only we had a Woman's Equality Party to help with this shit....

Well I’m full of rage with Gransnet and the number of posters on there who are misogynistic minimisers - I bet they’ve raised lovely sons.

Slimthistime · 06/11/2017 00:11

Oh Ive never looked on Gransnet
Is it worse?
So far today - okay yesterday now - I've been called a man hater and had another poster assume my username is because I needed lose weight to please a man

I do sometimes wonder if MN is giving me a warped view of the world but then...Dump is in charge of the US so I just don't know any more.

I guess in real life women with man pleasing ideas aren't going to be drawn to me Grin

I wish the media would stop calling things "inappropriate" when they're just harassment or misogyny.

Thelily - I agree, although the way women are treated in general is depressing, the heartening thing is the women speaking out. There is power in numbers. I've been thinking about this a lot - there is no way HW can deny he's an abusive criminal now. There is no way he can claim it's people with a grudge, women making this up. The numbers are astounding (and I'm sure there are more women affected too). The stories all support each other. If we (as a society) can encourage more women to speak out and ensure there are fewer negative consequences if they do - the tide will have turned.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 06/11/2017 00:33

I don't feel rage, I feel weary.

I feel tired.

I'm old enough to know that when you fire anger at these men, they fire it back a hundred-fold. My anger can never match their vitriol and violence.

So I keep on, but with kindness, I have chosen to take my anger and use it to help people and to never shut the fuck up, I won't be silenced and I'll keep talking, but I won't be angry, they're angry, I'm strident. I'm outspoken, I'm utterly sure.

But I'm not angry.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 06/11/2017 19:23

Oooo, had a look at Gransnet, awful lot of WhatAboutThePoorMen, 'cos that's what important isn't it. There are some amazing feminist posters over their too trying their best so well done them.

Knusper · 06/11/2017 21:57

I'm angry, weary, tired. But most of all heartbroken for my teenage daughters.

I assumed that over time we were marching towards ever greater dignity and protections for women. I was wrong. Things are as bad for women as they were in the 80s and 90s. Weary. Angry that upcoming generations of women will have to fight many of the same battles.

DamsonInDistressss · 07/11/2017 00:47

I agree that it’s all pretty dispiriting, but I think it’s a stretch to say things are as bad as they were in the 80s.

Sexual assault has fallen over the last few decades and young women are now outearning young men. Still many issues to resolve but I think our daughters are living in a better world overall. Reading too much on the internet would give one the opposite view though I fear...

Oswin · 07/11/2017 00:52

Damson two women a week are murdered. I don't know a woman who hasn't been either sexually assaulted, physically assaulted or raped. It's a fucking epidemic. It needs to be named what it is. Male violence and entitlement.

DamsonInDistressss · 07/11/2017 02:07

That’s a horrible statistic, Oswin, but two out of 65 million isn’t an epidemic. If it is, then how would we even begin to describe the situation regarding road deaths!

I’m all for raising awareness, but there’s a line where it just becomes an excuse to rail against men IMO.

Oswin · 07/11/2017 02:20

Male violence is an epidemic. Two women a week killed by a male partner or ex partner. That is terrifying when you think of all the women just waiting to die.

Oswin · 07/11/2017 02:21

An excuse to rail against men? Why can we not be angry at this shit. Why are we not allowed to call it what it fucking is without this shit. Male fucking violence.

DamsonInDistressss · 07/11/2017 02:31

Individuals murder people, not “men”, and most of these individuals are not reflective of society as a whole. My hubby helps put these people behind bars.

Oswin · 07/11/2017 02:38

It's not equal though is it. What's the percentages of violent crimes? Mostly men. Don't pretend this is not a problem. Women should not fear sexual assault. But they do. Walking down the street can end with a man threatening to rape you because you ignored his whistle. Going to a club can end up being sexually assaulted several times.
This shit is what women expect. It is normalised. When women complain they are told not to tar all men with the same brush.
They are told to avoid clubs. Avoid alleys. But the minute a women says ill just avoid men there is whiney fuckers bitching about not all men.
So fucking what. Too many fucking men.

DamsonInDistressss · 07/11/2017 02:45

God, you must be terrified to leave the house...

DamsonInDistressss · 07/11/2017 02:50

I’m more worried about my brother on nights out tbh. There are a lot more men who’ll headbutt another man for looking at him funny than there are who’ll rape a women. Woman beaters are reviled even in prison.

Oswin · 07/11/2017 02:55

No they are not. Go on Facebook or a newspaper online. Look for an article where a man rapes a woman. Read the comments. At least 50 percent will find a way to blame the women.
Did you see that study done at an American university. Where a third of men would rape if they could get away with it. And they do get away with it. Look at the conviction rates.
Look at any article involving adam johnson and you will see.

Oswin · 07/11/2017 02:59

You know my brothers or ex boyfriends have never been randomly attacked. They have been in fights. Willingly. Never just randomly attacked. I have. A man headbutted me. I didn't know him, he had groped my sister earlier on and the bouncers didn't give a shit. He didn't even get arrested, not even kicked out the fucking club. That is one instance of violence. If I was to list it all I would be here all night. So yeah mock me all you like but I see this for what it is. I don't give a shit if some nice mens feels get hurt.
