Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

J.K.Rowling *might* be a Terf...

And I am delighted!

Okay, there is a tiny bit of evidence that JK may be gender critical. She 'liked' a gender critical post on Twitter, and the TRAs are going mental over it. JK hasn't responded yet (and I doubt she will)

In other news, Jenna Jameson (famous porn star) has also 'come out' as gender critical!

Is the tide turning? If we get JK on our side, then yes!

So is a centrist a political equivalent for Terf? Basically a vague descriptor for someone whose opinions you don't like and want to dismiss.

gameoflife · 27/10/2017 14:14

That incel stuff is a whole wagon of entitled crazy.

The sooner the internet stops with this veneer of anonymity, and the entitled wee wanking boys have to own and face the consequences of their idiotic nonsense, the better. Imagine if their families, peers and colleagues could see their wittering?

I wonder if Owen Jones has set up a CentristBlocker yet?

BadenBadenBadenBaden · 27/10/2017 15:20

I think people use "centrist dad" as an insult. I liked Isabel Hardman who said it sounded like her perfect date Grin

badbadhusky · 27/10/2017 15:22

Mmmm. Centrist Dad? Sounds hawt!! Grin

I was reluctant to raise it for fear of looking like a nutjob.

On the Hentai/MRA/TransActivist thing....

Now that we've noticed this Nauticant - how the heck can we explain to anyone else?

no those people aren't really feminists, or even women, they are men who wank to Japanese cartoons of girls with penises; who've convinced themselves....

yes some of them believe Snape to be in fact trans

nauticant · 27/10/2017 17:14

Your post makes me laugh Anlaf but it raises an interesting point. With a lot of this stuff if we explain to "civilians" what some TRAs believe or think has to happen, we look delusional. A civilian will nod along while thinking to themselves "I know they're a mate but this is just bizarre, best humour them". I've had this happen myself.

But if we point out a connection to Hentai, then as soon as we start explaining the nature of Hentai, a civilian will assume we're perverts.

To your man or woman on the Clapham omnibus, this stuff is literally unbelievable.

Datun · 27/10/2017 17:45

nauticant

Completely agree. What I have read over the last 18 months has led me to believe that the majority of transactivists, or anyone that talks about this online, are porn soaked men who have a very blurred line between consensual and/or age-appropriate sex.

And no I don’t have any citations. But it becomes rather overwhelming when you realise they all have the same avatars, they all have cartoon porn in their profiles, they all use the same words to describe themselves. The new names give them away too. They’re often cutesy, hypersexualised or blatant homophones (is that the right word?).

Paris Lees (Paris Sleaze)
Ana Lee (Anally)

Etc.

gameoflife · 27/10/2017 18:38

Datun yes agreed.

Beingrippedoff · 27/10/2017 20:33

I've thought for a while that the young TIMs who seem to hate all women so much are likely influenced by porn, but had no idea of the extent of its weirdness till now.
Re JKR I'm another big fan of HP but have also read one of her other books and loved it too. (I'll be trying one of the strike ones too)
I'm really glad of any support, esp from a highly influential woman like her. I've listened so some of her speeches before and always have been impressed by what she has to say as well

Writersblock2 · 30/10/2017 21:35

This thread is amazing!

I’m mostly sitting here reading and wishing I had some popcorn, but just wanted to add that JKR’s A Casual Vacancy was fabulous too.

hipsterfun · 30/10/2017 21:52

In the face of this insanity, JKR is well placed to take a stand. She’s has excellent credentials, great reach and it’s not like she’s going to lose her job over it.

FlorenceLyons · 31/10/2017 11:32

Wow. I've lost track of the number of things I've learned from this thread!

I have very little to contribute, so will just add a 'yay' for JKR and carry on having my eyes opened...

Anlaf · 08/11/2017 23:04

If I can just give an update on the incel community,.one of the many revelations brought by this thread

Looks like they've gone too far even for Reddit. On their r/Incels subreddit:

popular posts from the last few months include ones titled “all women are sluts”; “proof that girls are nothing but trash that use men” and “reasons why women are the embodiment of evil”

One poster wanted to know how/if a raped woman would find her attacker.

Reddit updated its site-wide policy to prohibit content that “encourages, glorifies, incites or calls for violence or physical harm against an individual or group of people...r/Incels has been banned for violating this policy,”

www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/nov/08/reddit-incel-involuntary-celibate-men-ban

You can 'enjoy' some.of their other moments here www.reddit.com/r/IncelTears/ including this touching dream of a better world: Females are a cancer to society. All men should leave them them [sic] to be on their own. And then they can rot with their female only society with a billion cats. A day, I hope, we can all still look forward to.

Vale, r/Incels, vale

JK would know full well about how vulnerable women are because she herself experienced it. When she started writing HP she was a divorced, economically disadvantaged mother with a young child, running away from a dangerous ex across national borders. She even needed to take a restraining order against him.
