J.K.Rowling *might* be a Terf...

And I am delighted!

Okay, there is a tiny bit of evidence that JK may be gender critical. She 'liked' a gender critical post on Twitter, and the TRAs are going mental over it. JK hasn't responded yet (and I doubt she will)

In other news, Jenna Jameson (famous porn star) has also 'come out' as gender critical!

Is the tide turning? If we get JK on our side, then yes!

I am absolutely delighted. I am also a writer of great skill and merit and one of this century’s great intellectuals. No, really!

wrappedupinmyselflikeaspool · 26/10/2017 20:35

This could be like a new Spartacus thread! I am wrapped up delighted and I agree with JK Rowling. I am on team gender critical and I will always like Snape the best.

IndominusRex · 26/10/2017 20:48

Husky do you have a link for that? I want to retweet it!

NashvilleQueen · 26/10/2017 20:54

I just always though Snape was a bit of a goth

DoubleRamsey · 26/10/2017 20:54

Ttbb I haven't read Harry Potter since it came out, but I remember thinking it was well written, but it was a while ago.

I couldn't get through twilight or 50 shades as they were so bad. I don't think its fair to compare them as Harry Potter is significantly more successful! In Tolkien's league I would say. I guess her style is simple as it is obviously aimed at children, but that doesn't make I bad. There are some lovely quotes from Harry Potter - not so much twilight and 50 shades.

AnotherQuoll · 26/10/2017 21:02

I'm not a follower of JK but I've seen tweets circulating in which transactivists are "calling each other out" and attempting to shame people for following her. And they wonder why so many people call it the Trans Cult! I think they're the only group I know of who could rival the $cienos for intrusiveness and authoritarianism.

gameoflife · 26/10/2017 21:04

Holy Moly, that snape/trans thing is hilarious. Evidence for apparently, his skill and interest in potions, being that potions are a feminine thing, again apparently. Also, he was interested in potions because he was searching for a way to transition.

Now, if I was searching for an interesting character to project my trans idiology/desire onto, then what about the metamorphosis Tonk, or even all the folk who could transition into animals? perhaps they are just not sexy and misunderstood enough or central to the plot to match the internal fiction of those doing the projecting.

I have had to turn on private browsing thanks to mumsnet, last night I was googling weird men who masturbate into my little pony plushies, and tonight Snape is trans emo nonsense.

nauticant · 26/10/2017 21:11

hahaha!

IndominusRex · 26/10/2017 21:33

Thanks Wink

PricklyBall · 26/10/2017 21:35

I rather think that Vice article might be going off half cock (or half lady stick or something). Out of 63 492 fanworks for Harry Potter (yes, you read that number right) on AO3, there are 13 trans Snape works. Rather niche to put it mildly.

gameoflife · 26/10/2017 21:38

And now (spoilers!) I have discovered that Ron was actually Dumbledore, his change of sexual orientation is what happens when you time travel. Socks being the evidence.

gameoflife · 26/10/2017 21:39

Pink news are reporting BOTH the snape trans thing, and the ron/dumbledore theory. They really have their finger on the pulse of what's important.

tigercub50 · 26/10/2017 21:45

Pricklyball I had to smile at your use of “ willy nilly” when you had just typed “ suck my lady dick” 😃

BaronessBomburst · 26/10/2017 22:06

I'm enjoying this thread.
Okay, in some ways it's sad it even exists but, I don't know, it's educational and witty.
If someone wants to call me a TERF I'll wear the badge with pride.

TheChampagneGalop · 27/10/2017 08:45

Haha, good luck convincing all the Harry Potter fans that their favourite author is an evil terf-witch who must be shunned!

And yes, there is a strong connection between trans activists and having anime avatars/liking hentai. Usually involving little girls.

Liking hentai = ok
Liking a #Metoo article = Evil terf

Anlaf · 27/10/2017 08:54

If I may provide documentary evidence of this link, here is a twitter thread on JK's thoughtcrime where almost everyone has an anime avatar. And they hate those TERF's!

Culminates in a threat of violence [Anime avatar, She/Her pronouns]

“Beacon of wokeness” from that Twitter thread. 😂 That’s crying out to be a username.

Anlaf · 27/10/2017 09:07

That last young 'un has Incel in their twitter username.

Incel is short for Involuntary Celibate [for clarity, women will not sleep with this individual].

I think this is a Men's Rights Activist subculture. David Futrelle catalogues this sort of thing on his We Hunted the Mammoth site, so you are spared having to go on 4chan.
www.wehuntedthemammoth.com/category/incel/

It's eye-opening, in case anyone's eyes are not already Shock at the hentai wanky girl/penis cartoons.

It's an internet movement but with real life consequences www.salon.com/2014/05/27/inside_the_terrifying_twisted_online_world_of_involuntary_celibates/

I'm not sure I've paid enough mind to the overlap between MRAs, incels, trans rights activists.

Datun · 27/10/2017 09:14

I'm not sure I've paid enough mind to the overlap between MRAs, incels, trans rights activists.

They’re ndistinguishable in terms of their hatred of women. And exactly the kind of people who will exploit all any law that damages women.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 27/10/2017 09:52

JK is a terf, and also a centrist

What's a centrist?

Anlaf · 27/10/2017 10:28

There's so much bloody terminology, and unless you pay furious attention to twitter or reddit, much of the internet can be impenetrable arguments between people who (on the face if it) seem quite similar.

I think this is partly why I ignored feminist concerns over transactivism, because it was so much easier to think "LGBT nice, feminists shouting at them over minor points"

Was wrong.

nauticant · 27/10/2017 10:29

I'm pleased to see the intersection between MRAs, TRAs, and hentai has come up naturally in discussion. It's been on my mind for a while but I was reluctant to raise it for fear of looking like a nutjob.

IfNot · 27/10/2017 10:53

Anyone who thinks JKR 's books are not engaging must remember that they are written for children, and children love them. Its an art all of its own to capture the imagination of children. I don't want to sit and read Enid Blyton, but as outdated as she is, my son at 6 and 7 devoured her books, because she had the same gift.
Don't know really about terfs and trans...still getting my head around the madness..but wanted to defend JKR as one of the best children's authors of all time. Smile
