UK submission to UN - "whatabout the pregnant men?"

pisacake · 22/10/2017 11:42

The text as proposed by the UN:

"Although States parties may adopt measures designed to regulate terminations of pregnancy, such measures must not result in violation of the right to life of a pregnant woman or her other rights under the Covenant, including the prohibition against cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment. . Thus, any legal restrictions on the ability of women to seek abortion must not, inter alia, jeopardize their lives or subject them to physical or mental pain or suffering which violates article 7. States parties must provide safe access to abortion to protect the life and health of pregnant women, and in situations in which carrying a pregnancy to term would cause the woman substantial pain or suffering,"

and continues in similar vein

The UK's submission:
www.ohchr.org/Documents/HRBodies/CCPR/GCArticle6/UnitedKingdom.pdf

" We note that in using the term “pregnant woman” the Committee may be inadvertently restricting the application of this paragraph to exclude transgender people who have given birth; this has happened in two recent cases in the UK."

This is rather confusing language. If they are not, in the context of that sentence, 'pregnant women', then surely the appropriate sentence, by elimination, is 'pregnant men' "exclude transgender men who have given birth; this has happened in two recent cases in the UK.""

ShockShock

It's a legal medical right not a privilege.

Datun · 24/10/2017 11:53

If it’s a privilege they have over transwomen, what exactly would address that?

Answer: shut up about it.

badbadhusky · 24/10/2017 13:32

Oh FFS! The posted tweet has to be a troll, surely? No one could be that fuck-witted, could they?

Natsku · 24/10/2017 13:33

Fucking hell - needing an abortion is a privilege?!

Datun · 24/10/2017 13:59

There is generally a quite normal reaction of oh come on that has to be a troll. To all these things.

Like the guy who said a transwoman can’t rape a cis woman because of the inherent power cis women have over transwomen.

Cis privilege is a constant and recurring theme.

The outcry over the pussy hats that women wore on the Women’s March. Because they represented female genitalia which was exclusionary and triggering. Despite the fact that in order to be grabbed by the ‘pussy’ by Trump, you would have to have one in the first place.

And completely missing the point that it was about sexual harassment of women, NOT a privilege.

And that transwoman on another thread on here, complaining that they were not objectified. Again, another example of cis privilege - to be objectified.

The leap from a man claiming to be a woman, to representing women is huge and incredibly dangerous.

It means any old misogynistic rubbish that he spouts, is entirely acceptable not only on the basis that he is female, but that he’s right because he represents females.

The men who write about being women from a ‘feminist’ perspective are the most dangerous of all.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/10/2017 14:38

Has all this reached the medical profession yet in the sense of being unable to suggest sex related necessary procedures/examinations

Prostate exams smear tests etc

Trans men with breasts still need to check their breasts for lumps and trans women need to keep am eye on their testicles regardless of whether they bind them down or don't feel they belong there

SelmaAndJubjub · 24/10/2017 15:09

Yup but they are being silenced too. It is a criminal offence for an HCP to reveal that a patient is trans without his/her permission, even if doing so might save a life (except in situations where patients can't consent, e.g because in a coma).

The medical establishment, including the General Medical Council and Royal College of GPs, are fully signed up to Stonewall's pro-Trans agenda.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/10/2017 15:14
Shock

But how can they treat if they don't know? Surely bizarre blood results explained by the medications could well lead to unnecessary or dangerous treatment.

All those unnecessary tests too, pregnancy etc

They can't pick up early prostate cancer without knowing there's a prostate etc

Bloody dangerous exoensive and time wasting

Bedsettee · 24/10/2017 15:23

Never had an abortion but I find that tweet about it being a privilege extremely upsetting. You have to be mentally ill to think that let alone post it.

I'm honestly gobsmacked and I reached peak trans a long time ago.

DJBaggySmalls · 24/10/2017 16:37

On Twitter, Karen Ingala Smith has just spoken to Maria Miller MP how she intends to protect womens rights after gender self ID is introduced, and Maria refused to answer the question.

Datun · 24/10/2017 17:09

I honestly don’t understand Millers refusal to engage or acknowledge issues.

I originally thought it was because she was ignorant and uninformed. But she can’t possibly be, any more.

And it seems to go further than a normal politicians reluctance to admit they were at all wrong. And she doesn’t really have to do. All she has to do is say she will be taking women’s concerns into account.

Beingrippedoff · 24/10/2017 17:23

giles I work in NHS and I know of GPs who have effectively have to delete someone's medical history and give them a new NHS number to start again. NOt allowed to offer cervical screening, mammograms etc. Have to do risk calculations using identified sex rather than biological which totally changes the results e.g. Risk of osteoporosis, cardiovascular risk calculators etc
If they breach these rules that face a huge fine -I think it's £20000 to be paid by the GP practice. Which would completely sink a small practice and do huge harm in terms of services they can offer everyone else.
And don't forget children are being prescribed puberty blockers on the NHS. GPs are also being pressured to prescribe hormones to people waiting to be seen!
It's a huge ticking time bomb which the NHS just can't afford (once these people start suing for being rendered infertile under the age of consent). Not to mention the huge cancer risks which will no doubt follow. Really, really ridiculous situation

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/10/2017 17:33

being

That's going to literally going to kill people. Medical professionals aren't even there to judge they are there to treat everyone from the queen to serial killers and provide the best care regardless ffs

How can they do their jobs when vital information is erased

Terfing · 24/10/2017 17:35

Slightly off-topic, but I'm curious...

Can post-op transwomen still get testicular cancer? I ask because I believe that their scrotum is usually inverted to make the 'Neo-vagina'. How would they check for lumps/ abnormalities?

(Not trying to be goady, just curious!)

Datun · 24/10/2017 17:44

Doesn’t testicular cancer happen in the testicles? Aren’t the testicles removed?

SelmaAndJubjub · 24/10/2017 17:52

Obviously you can't get testicular cancer if you have no testicles, but only 20% of TIM have orchidectomies (removal of testicles).

Beingrippedoff · 24/10/2017 18:34

Sorry what does TIM stand for?
I've shared that article from spectator on fb...my first foray into social media on this subject. Wish me luck (as a HCP I'm quite nervous about this as my 'college' would likely disagree but it's a very fair article I think)

MidnightAura · 24/10/2017 18:44

Hello, can I join you? I admit I wasn’t very clued up about the issues until a few days ago and after reading the article about pregnant people and being told on Twitter “it’s 2017, some men have a vagina and uterus get over it!”

It got me thinking about the bigger picture and doing research and I’m horrified at the proposed changes.

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2017 19:03

Welcome Midnight! Yes, it's boggling isn't it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/10/2017 19:04

TIM = trans identified male. A far more inclusive way to allow for the multitudinous variety of identities encompassed by the trans umbrella.

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2017 19:05

TIM stands for Trans Identified Male. Which allows us to talk about them without participating in our own gaslighting.

MidnightAura · 24/10/2017 19:14

I like the article form The Spectator, I have shared it on my twitter in response to the person telling me I shouldn’t be offended by the term pregnant person.

Crazy world we live in!

InTheRoseGarden · 24/10/2017 22:58

I know we're not supposed to read it but the comments in the Daily Mail on this are brilliant too. They restore my faith in humanity Grin

Natsku · 25/10/2017 07:02

Its a dark day when Daily Mail comments restore your faith in humanity!!
