I've scrolled back a few pages and I can't even find the last pub thread.

So I've taken the beer towels off the pumps, tapped a new barrel, polished the glasses, fed the goat and applied brasso to the patriarchy busting canon.

Come and join me - all tastes catered for - beer, gin, wine, cocktails, coffee and a nice cup of tea.

... my identity’s no lie
Misgender me - you die
Can’t be bothered to talk, so I cabled.

Pours large Lagavullin.

Quentin, that's bloody awful. (Passes bottle of Lagavullin).

Interesting observation, Somerville. I am not really on social media (barring an empty facebook account for looking at friends' baby photos), so have been spared this. But, yes, I can imagine.

Somerville one of my friends was telling me about a boy her and her boyfriend know last night and a status he posted on that topic. Completely derailing, which they both challenged, prompting him to start sending them WhatsApp messages followed by one (tellingly) just to her boyfriend trying to undermine all the girls and women posting in suggesting it's being exaggerated. She and him had been trying to explain things to him for the past couple of days and he was dismissing every point so she was understandably exasperated. I was just discussing it! You can tell a lot by certain reactions.

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 20:37

I've been relatively spared as I had a cull of misogynists when I first started becoming vocal on social media about these issues some time ago. Not entirely though.

badbadhusky · 18/10/2017 20:48

I like the sound of a "cull of mysogynists." It would certainly clear the decks for highly capable, high skilled (and currently underutilised) women in lots of industries. 👍

badbadhusky · 18/10/2017 20:49

Hmm - meaning they could move up, not be casualties of the cull.

Somerville · 18/10/2017 20:50

Yes, I'm observing a huge range of reactions, from men who seem sad and sick by how many women they know are saying them too, right through to thinly veiled "NAMALT YOU FEMINAZIS". I realised one of the friends of an old friend who was doing the latter was a guy I'd known as a teenager. He was a right handsy little squirt then, and clearly still is. Angry

And now more males have the temerity to annoy me.... DS2 has forgottenthat naps are a thing and DH, who is working away, started mansplaining "6 week old 's sleep regression" when he was meant to just be sympathetic.

(Anyone want to walk round and round in cicrcles with a knife over tired baby?)

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 20:51

I did think I liked the idea of it after I wrote it badbadhusky!

Somerville · 18/10/2017 20:52

Cull of misogynists

Love it. Lets make that the new collective noun for misogynists. (Is there one?)

badbadhusky · 18/10/2017 20:53

I don't bouncing him on my knee for a bit Somerville as long as you don't mind him being exposed to salty feminist discourse.

QuentinSummers · 18/10/2017 20:53

Thanks prickly. It's been a very long time since I had something so overt in a work setting and I had forgotten how powerless it makes you feel. DH thinks I should report it but I feel really ashamed and don't really want to. Ugh.

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 20:54

If only the men who spend their time protesting NAMALT would use it instead challenging the men it is, challenging everyday misogyny and the culture which enables such attacks rather than berating women trying to discuss experiences, the volume of which shows it's far too many men leading to these experiences for far, far too many women and girls. Instead they choose to derail and force women and girls to defend trying to speak out about this, helping perpetuate a culture this goes on and seeking to silence women and girls.

Somerville · 18/10/2017 20:55

The shame isn't on you, Quentin. Flowers

Take some time to think about reporting. It doesn't have to be a snap decision, either way.

NoLoveofMine · 18/10/2017 20:56

Sorry to read of what happened Quentin Flowers

FlaviaAlbia · 18/10/2017 20:59

Urgh Quentin that's so shit. Bastard. Wine

My day has been really quite good thankfully, though I'm just in from a night supervising 4 and 5 yr olds and my voice is going. They were well behaved too. I'm just going to start on the port Wine

Somerville I'm guessing knife was a typo Grin

badbadhusky · 18/10/2017 21:01

It could be a new form of extreme parenting - childcare with knife throwing. Takes multitasking to a whole new level.

Somerville · 18/10/2017 21:02

Knife - Wha'??

Somerville · 18/10/2017 21:05

Oh, no, no knife. Grin Just a baby on the boob and a phone with a mind of its own.

Flav where are you with lymond Chronicles now then?

FlaviaAlbia · 18/10/2017 21:13

Phew Grin I've finished Queen's play and started the Disorderly Knights. It's seems intriguing so far, I can't quite see where it's going yet though there's hints.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 21:14

quentin Wine

Right...

Ive been out and im catching up with some of the threads im on

Just one question...

Why are people so fucking stupid

Do they do it on purpose as they think its funny? do they think they are really clever? Or are they truly fucking dense?

Im just curious

NeverEverAnythingEver · 18/10/2017 21:19

Oh Quentin that's so awful! May his willy fall off tomorrow!

I love Flavia Albia. Must get the later ones. And what are the Lymond Chronicles?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 18/10/2017 21:19

Stupidity rufus. What's that saying about never attribute to something or other that which you can attribute to stupidity?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 18/10/2017 21:20

I have had a good day - in fact I didn't step outside at all... Sometimes the only way is to not see anybody...

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 18/10/2017 21:23

Ive had a good day

Its people on here that are the problem Grin

Mumsnet not this board

FlaviaAlbia · 18/10/2017 21:23

They just keep getting better Never, there's a new one out in May too I think.

Somerville got me onto the Lymond Cronicles, I lost so much sleep once I got into Game of Kings and didn't want to stop reading Smile they're by Dorethy Dunnet.
