For anyone interested there is a debate about the new legislation and gender this Wednesday evening in South London

Miranda Yardley and the Julia Long are speakers. I will definitely be attending so hope to see a few of you there.

I've been wondering this for months now, what is Spartacus?

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 21:00

I've heard there was a public chat thrown tonight (by a TA). I hope the Spartaci are safe. Wish I could have made it.

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:03

Oh gosh, I hope everyone is okay.

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 21:04

Oh, my typo! A public chat was thrown Hmm Should read punch:

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:06

Oh my, it looks like someone was strangled and hit Sad

Sandsnake · 13/09/2017 21:08

Maybe you were right the first time Althea. We must remember that (the wrong type of ) public chat is 'literal violence'.

Comments on FB seem to indicate a 60yr old woman was punched. That's just from FB though so can't say how accurate it is / isn't.

AltheaThoon · 13/09/2017 21:08

No! Where have you seen that, Ferrets?

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:10

This has actually scared me Sad

I knew this stuff went on but it feels a bit more real when it's something I've been following in the moment iyswim.

Why would are they so threatened by a group of women simply wanting a non-violent peaceful discussion? Angry

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:11

Somebody just posted it on that trans health FB page.

It might not be true of course...it's only on FB so far but if it is then Angry and I hope she is okay.

Hope everyone else is safe. Cannot believe a TA punched a woman Shock
Hope that FB page gets some heat for inciting violence

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:15

This has actually upset me Sad

Why are we thought of as the violent ones?

Terfing · 13/09/2017 21:17

Oh my! I hope this isn't true! Sad

FerretsAreFeminists · 13/09/2017 21:21

You can guarantee that this will somehow be our fault

qumquat · 13/09/2017 21:23

Just seen it on twitter with photos of the woman's bruises. Meeting coming to an end but attendees scared to leave as tas waiting outside. This is terrifying.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/09/2017 21:24

I've just seen about the violence on Twitter, and hoped there had been a thread on here Shock

I knew things were crazy in the US, but I never thought you'd have TAs bearing and strangling a woman in the UK - I had hoped they were all mouth.

I really hope the the police take this seriously and charge the fuckers, as well as protect those still in the venue which has apparently been surrounded by TAs

Slimthistime · 13/09/2017 21:27

I had a horrible feeling there'd be trouble at this event
Poor woman

On a side note, the tweeter has in their profile that they are anti-humanist which is new to me.

SisterMoonshine · 13/09/2017 21:27

Oh god this is awful. I was just looking at that facebook page and am horrified at how they've been egging each other on all day and giving advice on what to do if arrested.
What kind of people need to know that before they go out? Like they're covering their arses before they get violent.

ICJump · 13/09/2017 21:35

Oh the poor woman. Fucking hell im cross

Terfing · 13/09/2017 21:38

Seriously, fuck this! On Twitter, people are saying that the police weren't even bothered! Angry

The press better fucking cover this story. I believe Janice Turner mentioned the event earlier?

Anlaf · 13/09/2017 21:41

So according to fb and Twitter (of people at the event, in the main), the woman was punched, kicked and strangled by 4 people nr speakers corner. The trans protest fb page has deleted the "Let's fuck up terfs" post and has revised the wording about "violent terfs" (and the libelly bit) too bad there are screenshots and added disclaimer that (am quoting because it'll probably be deleted)

there was an incident this evening which will be hatefully and wrongly depicted by TERFs as male violence. Do not be deceived by violent attempts to discredit and erase our struggle.

our fight for Trans liberation is and always will be a feminist battle, and will be fought alongside the struggles of sisters and siblings across the world for an end to the violence against women that is perpetuated by cisheteropatriarchy. Let no one be deceived that they are fighting for all women if they are not fighting on these terms.

We're proud that today many self-organising activists, allies and supporters stood united against hatred, misogyny and intimidation. NO TO MALE VIOLENCE, NO TO CARCERAL FEMINISM. WHEN THE TERFS ATTACK, WE FIGHT BACK.

What a mess, poor poor woman, and what the fuck does CARCERAL feminism mean

Badweekjustgotworse · 13/09/2017 21:41

I hope someone is screen shorting the FB discussions wth the TAs egging each other on to violence, could come in very useful if the woman punched presses charges. Also good as proof of the violence that we're all told never happens from transwomen...

Badweekjustgotworse · 13/09/2017 21:42

Cross post wth anlaf, glad you got screen shots!

SymbollocksInteractionism · 13/09/2017 21:42

That poor woman! What a bunch of absolute bastards, and they call themselves women!!
This will probably get nowhere near the media too, imagine the outcry if it had been the other way around!!!!
😡😡😡😡😡😡

Badweekjustgotworse · 13/09/2017 21:43

no to male violence.... oh the irony Hmm

BeyondNoone · 13/09/2017 21:45

"We do not collaborate with police and those who do are implicated in blah blah blah..."
Or as one woman interpretted it on Twitter "snitches get stitches"
