For anyone interested there is a debate about the new legislation and gender this Wednesday evening in South London

Miranda Yardley and the Julia Long are speakers. I will definitely be attending so hope to see a few of you there.

Here it is

Badweekjustgotworse · 17/09/2017 11:37

wow, nice ability there to judge someone as a piece of shit for having a different belief from herself. Guess that means that pretty much everyone I know is a piece of shit for having different beliefs and values to me for various things, don't like my mac'n'cheese, ah well I don't care cause you're a piece of shit eat my fist instead why dontcha, must be lovely feeling so superior to the entire world.

This is what men do to justify domestic violence....

Whoever took that video is to be applauded for having such a calm and measured response (and willingness to engage in the face of such idiocy)

MissHavishamsleftdaffodil · 17/09/2017 11:49

Although the shallow end of this kind of liberal left attitude comes out frequently on MN if anyone admits to not voting Brexit or voting conservative or mentioning a concern regarding immigration, or in any other way having a 'taboo' opinion. Their views are not engaged with, they are personally vilified and denounced as objectionable and not worthy of speaking to with the respect normally owed to others. This is in part why the recent elections have had unpredictable results; people are afraid to admit to views that are 'off message' because it leads to personal attack.

When you raise a generation in this belief, I can see why this tips into 'you hold an offensive off message view/I don't need to treat you with normal respect and consideration/you deserve to be punished/it's ok to hit you'.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/09/2017 12:27

Oh thanks. Now I understand (sort of). Denial is a river Egypt and all that.

BeyondNoone · 17/09/2017 12:43

I can't link the video here as it was someone's personal mobile footage that they shared on Facebook, but it was covered very favourably by Christina Patterson and Matthew Syed on "in the papers" last night, on sky news.

Managed to squish this attack, prisons, sports and young children all into a small segment, and both of them were on side!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 17/09/2017 12:59

Now being reported in the Sun and the metro. They seem to think TERF is the name of our group. I think we need to take back the dialogue and have a name of our own.

There is the obvious but that seems to be quite a Mumsnet thing maybe we need something broader?

Women Against Gender?

BeyondNoone · 17/09/2017 13:01

I think there is an "official" group in the process of being set up. I remember seeing it somewhere on Facebook, I think?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/09/2017 13:11

Gender crirical feminist. Gender critical women.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 17/09/2017 13:14

That Sky news clip Beyond

busyboysmum · 17/09/2017 13:22

Women for biology?

BeyondNoone · 17/09/2017 13:23

Thanks assigned! Drs didn't get in wrong in your case, eh? Wink

busyboysmum · 17/09/2017 13:23

We could do with not confusing people. Link it to science people understand. All the Gender stuff no-one gets it you can see from the DM comments.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 17/09/2017 13:47

Thank you Beyond I do try Wink

I need to get off twitter. Currently arguing with fuckheads who insist that male and female are not biological facts. My head is melting

OlennasWimple · 17/09/2017 13:53

Round of applause for Christina Patterson

Rumandraisin1 · 17/09/2017 13:59

Currently arguing with fuckheads who insist that male and female are not biological facts.

I think there's little point arguing with people who are that far into the ideology but there are lots of people who either have no idea about it or broadly think that it's an extension of LGB rights/being nice to oppressed trans people is a good thing and aren't yet aware of the full implications - so it's worth posting on the comments below the news paper articles (Sun, Metro, Mail etc) explaining in simple terms with examples e.g. male rapists with penises are being put in women's prisons, any man could claim to be a woman and get access to his ex-partner in a domestic abuse shelter. Most people don't care about feminist theory on gender but I hope that many will see that things like this are concerning.

Rumandraisin1 · 17/09/2017 14:01

It also might be worth writing to the letters sections of the newspapers if these articles have appeared in the print versions of the newspapers?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2017 14:18

It's difficult to avoid going feminist theorist sometimes, but I agree it's important to speak plainly.

I'm currently being told that misogyny isn't a woman's issue because TW experience it too. They can't even name their own prejudices, they have to co-opt ours!

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 17/09/2017 14:18

Yes I know but I am procrastinating about the housework. Actually ironing would be less painful than this shit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2017 14:19

Ironing your own hand would probably be less painful!

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2017 14:42

Did anyone see this from SkyNews?

Interesting to see this being discussed.

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 17/09/2017 14:59

Yes statistically thinking about it.

OMG they go ballistic when your talk about facts and evidence. Full on Rita

All this 'why would you want to make my friends unhappy?"

"You are a mean lady", "Bitter TERF",

Fucking fuckwits

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2017 15:08

Yup, I'm apparently a TERF and excluding "barren women" from my feminism. We've rolled back to the 1800s too, clearly

Badweekjustgotworse · 17/09/2017 15:14

'Barren' women? Umm, well that's not a misogynistic term in and of itself at all Hmm... let's just define women by their reproductive capacity shall we, like we're all fucking cows to be bred from Confused

BeyondNoone · 17/09/2017 15:16

Barren, wtf?! Who even says that now? 🙄

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2017 15:17

Nope not at all...they're making it impossible to discuss women's issues - sexism and misogyny are all about gender stereotypes but they get applied to us, whether we like it or not, because we're female.

I don't think trans people should face prejudice, but name your own prejudices and deal with them rather than trying to stop us fighting against the ones we face because in most cases they're not the bloody same.
