Susan Nicholson case - heartbreaking

HeatedCatFurniture · 28/08/2017 21:35

I've read bits about this before but this article sets it all out in detail.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/aug/28/the-police-knew-another-girl-had-died-in-his-bed-robert-trigg-susan-nicholson

It's appalling. Those poor women, those poor families - and that elderly couple, spending years and £££ bashing their heads against a brick wall of indifference from the police.

And so many of the officers named in the article are women, too.

OP posts:

Rod is a typical officer. If you question anything it's because you don't understand procedure. Lazy, follows PACE when it suits and goes for the easy option

It's incredible that you've managed to review my every arrest and investigation without even knowing my name or even where I work.

You. Are. Fabulous! Star

With that level of prophecy and understanding, it is imperative you join up asap. No more unsolved cases! No more missing people! No need for pesky rules and procedures. You'll be rich. Rich I tell you! Every single police force is going to need your skills and insight. You can charge whatever you like.

tiktok · 31/08/2017 09:11

Bloody hell. Give it a rest Rod. The sarcasm and sneers do you no favours. I think you are right to point out any misunderstandings of procedure and to underline the importance of pathologist's findings (though my understanding would be that the pathologist's report would not have to be the last word). But your tone only serves to weaken your arguments. It's unpleasant and goading.

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 09:25

Clearly I was perfectly polite and reasonable for the first 150 or so posts.

The FWR page then did it's normal procedure, turned on me and started getting nasty with name calling (can't see you challenging that?)

sashh · 31/08/2017 09:29

I don't need to, you are typical are you not? Or do you think you are exceptional?

Er I'm the one telling you that rules should be followed, you are the one telling me they don't.

If I did join then at least my reports would use punctuation correctly

tiktok

No let Rod carry on, it might get picked up by the Daily Fail

sashh · 31/08/2017 09:34

Rod

I find your username in bad taste.

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 09:37

If I did join then at least my reports would use punctuation correctly

Yay! Stage 2. Spelling and punctuation. Some devastating counter arguments from you there.

I understand you don't like the police. Not many suspects do....

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 09:40

Er I'm the one telling you that rules should be followed, you are the one telling me they don't

Where? Where have I said that?

BitOutOfPractice · 31/08/2017 09:43

I think the thing that's getting people's goat Rod is that I don't think (I may have missed it) you've not said "quite obviously the police made mistakes here".

And now (understandably I think, you've had a battering) you're getting snippy and sarky. I would walk away now if I were you

sashh · 31/08/2017 09:44

Rod

When I said,"If you are following PACE or another set of rules it should be exactly the same"

Do you show the same lack of evidence gathering at all times? I know you don't need qualifications to join the police, but still, I would have expected some level of literacy.

While you are waiting for that link why not have a look at the one I posted?

FlaviaAlbia · 31/08/2017 09:46

Since you're still here Ron, what about responding to AntiGrinch's post at 20:46 yesterday instead of bickering?

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 09:54

When I said,"If you are following PACE or another set of rules it should be exactly the same"

Excellent.

You're showing me proof of something you said as proof of something I said.

Clearly not me with the literary issues. Is it?

So I'll repeat it once again because you seem to be really struggling.

Where have I (that's me not you to avoid any further confusion on your part ) said rules don't need to be followed?

If it helps, use your finger under each individual word. It makes it easier to read a full sentence if reading isn't your thing.

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 09:58

in on her this sodding phone

Datun · 31/08/2017 10:02

That Dispatches programme was interesting and shocking in equal measure.

There does seem to be a slightly strange interpretation of what being a police officer means.

Instead of working for the public, being paid by the public to protect them, it feels as though the police regard themselves as a separate entity entirely. Isolated and divorced from that specific relationship. Much more like private sector workers.

I don't know if that's because of the nature of the job, or the recruitment process. But the BTL comments seemed to suggest it was more to do with the younger officers and the prevalent macho culture.

I don't think anyone suggests it's an easy job to do. Which is why it would need a certain type of person to do it.

The chief constable giving his view of the programme at the end was fascinating, seen through the eyes of a feminist. The 'tells' that sexiest men don't know they have, were manifold.

MadgeMidgerson · 31/08/2017 10:37

some years ago I realised that the job of the police had sod all to do with protecting little old citizen me

they are there to protect property, and keep order - both insofar as they serve the interests of the state

if what has happened doesn't fit either or those briefs, hey ho.

a woman suffocates on a sofa, the second partner of an abusive man to die unexpectedly?

-> no property has been damaged
-> no disorder has resulted
-> no harm done to the state

Thus no interest on the part of the police.

Still, it is good to see that if you can pressure them relentlessly they might investigate despite all this

tiktok · 31/08/2017 10:43

Ok, Rod, you think you are being provoked into rudeness and sneers by 'name calling' on a talk board. How 'bout taking the moral high ground and remaining calm and unaffected?

I mean, isn't this something they train you for? It would be good to see it in action here.

Just a thought 😀

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 11:05

Ok, Rod, you think you are being provoked into rudeness and sneers by 'name calling' on a talk board. How 'bout taking the moral high ground and remaining calm and unaffected?

I tried that. The level of abuse was exactly the same. I should just sit and take it?
Will you be giving similar arguments against rudeness to other posters or is it only me who should play nice?

tiktok · 31/08/2017 11:15

Don't think anyone should be rude - most ppl haven't, and the ones that were rude should desist.

But the argument that 'why are you not telling the other kids off 'cos they were naughty, too' is one for the playground, don't you think? I dunno - maybe I think people posting here with their professional hat on, as you are, should adhere to higher standards of online behaviour.

It was a genuine suggestion - if you have something to share that teaches us about procedures, then stop sneering and acting like a dick :)

That's not name calling, btw. It's a description of your behaviour.

tiktok · 31/08/2017 11:16

And yes - if you really think you are being subject to abuse, just report.

That's the grown up response.

scallopsrgreat · 31/08/2017 11:20

aww poor Rod. We aren't bowing to their clearly superior wisdom so he's getting all frustrated.

Honestly ladeez cut him some slack. He can't be responsible for his actions. You are.

Oh wait...isn't that what this thread is all about. Men not taking responsibility for their actions. Men harassing and murdering women because they don't like how women behave towards them.

Same spectrum, different ends.

JigglyTuff · 31/08/2017 11:23

Rod - what a load of bullshit. Your very first post on this thread was snarky and sarcastic:

"The pathologist stated that. Not the police. The pathologist. Guess who carries the most weight in the coroner's court?

How many of you have investigated/attended the scene of a sudden death, given you all seem to be experts in procedural short comings?"

If you think that's polite, you need some more communication training.

Datun · 31/08/2017 12:00

How many of you have investigated/attended the scene of a sudden death, given you all seem to be experts in procedural short comings?"

Given this site has over 12 million unique users per month, I should imagine at least some of them have found their way to this thread.

*aww poor Rod. We aren't bowing to their clearly superior wisdom so he's getting all frustrated.

There we are still assuming I'm male. Default reaction. Not frustrated at all, perfectly happy thanks.

Datun · 31/08/2017 12:19

Rod

Who is it you are asking for a link?

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 12:25

Elendon. The feminist legal genius.

Rodhullstvaerial · 31/08/2017 12:27

As you said.
Given this site has over 12 million unique users per month, I should imagine at least some of them have found their way to this thread

She is undoubtedly one of them. Clearly the finest legal mind to grace this fine isle....
