No surprises there.

I knew it would be bad, but the some of the figures make no sense. Why is Alan shearer paid so much more than clare balding? Dan walker more than naga munchetty?

Yup - it really establishes a pecking order loud and clear:
white woman = 1/4 of white man
BAME man = 1/8 of white man
BAME woman = 1/10 of white man.

(That's not meant as a derail - it just really struck me that race was as salient a feature as sex on this one - but with white men firmly at the top of the heap as per usual).

Totally agree re. Clare Balding - much more talented and versatile presenter than Alan Shearer (NB I love football, and like Shearer, but Balding still knocks him out of the park as a presenter).

Football is bigger audiences?

Do male newsreader attract bigger audiences than women newsreaders? But the BBC don't have to worry about audience size and advertising revenue, part of their remit is to provide specialist interest programming that may not attract huge audiences.

The largest viewing figures last year were for Great British Bake off not MOTD.

It is staggering. I actually thought things would be better than this at an institution like the BBC.

Also if you think in purely practical terms, Clare Balding covers events like the Olympics which involves travel and being on and off during the day from the start of the events to the evening roundup every day for 2 weeks. Plus all the other stuff she does. Shearer and Gary Lineker and the like are in for one day a week in London/Salford.

I know that's not how it's worked out, but bloody infuriating when she is so busy and so informative across a lot of sports, not just football.

It is across all the women - Mishel Hussain gets a pittance compared to everyone else as do the presenters of Woman's Hour.

I remember being struck last year that Jennifer Lawrence was the highest GROSSING actor while not being the highest PAID. People will always say it's about viewing figures or something but it's clearly not.

I think Tess Daly may be wondering why the side kick gets more? Also Fiona Bruce seems underpaid in comparison to some of the others and definitely Claire Balding. Top Gear was responsible for Evans but they could get cheaper on the football front! At least Clarkson is not on the list! Or the Hamster. Stephen Nolan seems remarkably well paid for a niche slot. As for Jeremy Vine? Why?

Jon Sopel is in the same band as her, Nick Robinson (who's been there much longer) is in the band above & Norman Smith, her deputy, isn't in the list. So I think her pay, at least, is as fair as it can be.

I think now this information is out there we need a public vote on who deserves what they're getting. Shearer, Wright & Vine don't for a start
