From his post-match interview after losing to Querrey today.

He's called out journalists before and no doubt will have to again. (Side note - does any other high profile male do this? In any field?) Relieved to hear it wasn't John Inverdale this time.

It's just struck me though, these journalists have sat and followed the women's matches because that's their job and they know who's won what, who's in which match, the stats etc and yet STILL they completely disregard them.

How can we increase the prominence of women's sport to the wider public if the journalists themselves, who are one of the links between the public and the sport, write female athletes off as irrevelant? Just reinforces the message that they're not important.

Good on him. It's honestly despairing at times the sexism in sport.

AssassinatedBeauty · 12/07/2017 19:36

He looks as fucked off with the casual sexism as I am, which is impressive! I like him very much for doing this.

doodlejump1980 · 12/07/2017 19:37

Legend! Even if he does have a dodgy hip.

Datun · 12/07/2017 19:38

Despite being in a family of tennis fanatics, I don't strictly follow it (maybe that's why). But I'm so, so glad to see him doing that.

arsenicistheanswer · 12/07/2017 19:38

Bless him. He never misses the opportunity to point their crap out to them.

Cuckingfunt1981 · 12/07/2017 19:38

Love him

Datun · 12/07/2017 19:39

And it takes nothing away from him. It just makes him look pro women but a great man.

Ketzele · 12/07/2017 19:41

What a mensch.

Jermajesty · 12/07/2017 19:43

👍🏻 to him again!

ThisBabyIsAnOctopus · 12/07/2017 19:44

Totes luff him

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/07/2017 19:47

Datin - what you said reminded me of one of my favourite Joss Whedon quotes, about his father and grandfather:

"And they were among the rare men who understood that recognizing someone else's power does not diminish your own."

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/07/2017 19:47

Datun -sorry.

I think he's great.

Ineedagoodusername · 12/07/2017 19:51

That's awesome why does the twatty journalist laugh.

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 12/07/2017 19:53

Good for him! I've always really disliked him does he really need to roar whilst playing tennis but I'm always impressed that he seems to be continually calling out casual sexism like this 👏🏻👏🏻

RandomDent · 12/07/2017 19:53

Nice one Andy.

Minty82 · 12/07/2017 20:00

Oh good on him! But ugh, you're so right, how is it possible that women are so completely absent from the journaliat's frame of reference that he behaves as if the point Murray's making doesn't even make sense?! I couldn't care less about sport but even I know that women have been responsible for some of the most exciting tennis of the past decade.

londonfeather · 12/07/2017 20:11

Muzza! I'm impressed... shame he didn't win today.

AssignedMentalAtBirth · 12/07/2017 20:35

Love him and Kim. Hope they have some peace

NoLoveofMine · 12/07/2017 20:51

It's vital for high profile men to challenge this kind of thing not least in sport. Not the first time he has, either; he also pulled up a journalist who opened a question with "you're the first tennis player to win two Olympic gold medals", replying "I think Venus and Serena have won about four each...".

acornsandnuts · 12/07/2017 20:57

I hope others learn from him. Doubt it..but I live in hope.

SueMacartney · 12/07/2017 20:58

Ineed yes that was really annoying, it seems like it went right over the journalist's head.

Agree, he just calmly bats it back to them, showing them up.
