I'm particularly interested in this question and quote of Murray's.
On whether his growing family would be a "distraction".
Well, I mean, I've had a family the whole time I've been playing tennis, so yeah, I'll be fine dealing with that
It sounds like the sort of question that (some) men wish they could ask professional women in job interviews if they have children. The "how committed can you be to your job/the company if you have young DC who might get ill/have school holidays/take up some of your time and attention". It's quite unusual for a man to be asked this.
Now, was the journalist asking this because he thinks that Andy might have his sleep disturbed and be tired for training? Is there an assumption that, because he's a top tennis player, he should be exempt from having to deal with night waking, lest he be tired? Is his job just too important to be risked by unnecessary things like dealing with his own DC?
Which, if it is that, how ridiculous is that. I mean, it's important that train drivers aren't sleep deprived, or surgeons, or pilots, as concentration is crucial. But playing tennis isn't life or death. The suggestion that it might be an issue if he has babies and is tired, because tennis is such an Important Job, so maybe he should have considered this further, is ridiculous.
(ps I love Andy Murray, and think his response is spot on)
