Oh DFOD

everythingburrito you're definitely not alone. I empathise though, if you challenge anything or even just, as you say, ask simple questions, the response is pretty much always to call you a "TERF" and "bigot". Twitter is horrendous for this kind of thing.

everythingburrito · 31/03/2017 12:31

It becomes an oppression olympics! I was trying to make the point about women being erased from sports because of trans women but got told "I'm worried about trans voices being erased" blah blah blah.

From a fellow cis woman Sad

GuardianLions · 31/03/2017 12:34

sorry to hear that everythingburrito it is really annoying - but it is a straightforward silencing tactic to get dissenters off Twitter, so they can promote their illogical, unhinged and dangerous agenda without needing to explain it [and in so doing expose it for the illogical, unhinged and dangerous rubbish that it is].

IAmAmy · 31/03/2017 12:36

Indeed. It seems if you don't entirely centre trans women in everything you say or do, every march, every conference etc, you are a TERF. If you raise any concern about "cis" women without adding that trans women have it worse, that you have "cis privilege", then you're silencing trans women. If you bring up an issue which doesn't affect trans women then you're not allowed to say "women" when talking about it. Bizarre.

GuardianLions · 31/03/2017 12:36

"I'm worried about trans voices being erased"
face-palm - head-desk!

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 12:37

Should have read the entire article before posting that as I don't think my comments are wholly relevant to this actually, sorry.

They are, don't worry. Feminist Current have a really good blog up which talks about "white feminist" as it is specifically used by Paris Lees and other transactivists.

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 12:39

Not really though. It makes perfect sense, when you think about their agenda.

ArcheryAnnie · 31/03/2017 12:41

"back to the same monotonous chant about sexism"

What a shocking thing to chant at, er, a women's march! No wonder the self-proclaimed woman at the women's march, surrounded by women, was so upset! Chanting about sexism indeed!

IAmAmy · 31/03/2017 12:42

Thank you very much venus that is a brilliant article, articulates what I feel so well.

IAmAmy · 31/03/2017 12:43

Yes, I know what the intention is, I meant "bizarre" as in it's ridiculous.

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 12:44

From a fellow cis woman

It generally is. They are the most po-faced and earnest about it. Actual TERF hating transactivists on twitter are often puerile and appear slightly unhinged and if you look at their pages, ewww. It's the male centring feminists and pompous mansplainy SJW men that do all their work.

cuirderussie · 31/03/2017 13:03

Speaking of white feminism, I was so amused at the dismay at Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's remarks about transwomen. It was easy to vilify Jenni Murray because she's white and old and not attractive anymore and obviously irrelevant. But Chimamanda-she's supposed to be on the side of the cool kids, because she's beautiful and black and was in a Beyonce video, how could she? Never mind, I'm sure she can be sent to some kind of re-education camp (this column is actually terrifying)

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 13:17

The Guardian deleted a comment referencing Orwell in relation to "transwomen are women" while I was replying to it. It's a fine day when a leftist newspaper is censoring mention of Orwell.

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 13:19

Sorry, to clarify, the comment was in in response to that terrible article cuir posted

cuirderussie · 31/03/2017 13:19

They closed the comments pretty quickly didn't they? Grin

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 13:23

I think they didn't consider it as a trans article, so they interpreted gender comments as a derail, and then realised they had made a mistake allowing comments.

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 13:27

Literally all the poster put was:

"Transwomen are women"

Freedom is slavery
Truth is ignorance

Etc

everythingburrito · 31/03/2017 13:44

I've never felt as bullied by any group as I have by trans activists. That includes MRAs, Brexiters etc

venusinscorpio · 31/03/2017 13:48

It helps if you bear in mind how ridiculous most of them are. Take a look at their timelines. I don't mean physically I mean the things they tweet etc.

Poppyred85 · 31/03/2017 14:20

Vestal
What's a trans transwomen? Made my head hurt trying to work it out Confused

Barcoo2 · 01/04/2017 11:39

Dear oh dear.

"I'm not a woman or a man waaah I take selfies all day waaah the feminists don't include me me me me waaaaah"

I just couldn't finish reading it. What self obsessed drivel.

MorrisZapp · 01/04/2017 11:46

Oh Josh. 'People keep calling me Josh but my name is Joshua' Grin

Why indeed aren't non binary female presenting film makers and indigos who use the pronoun 'they' and dabble in magic more visible?

Beats me Josh. There should be one on Eastenders and two on Holby shouldn't there. I mean it's only fair.

Nellooo · 01/04/2017 12:14

So Joshua says:

"My gender is fluid and my sexed body shifts with my gender identity and expression"

Yet is also complaining that there is no access to women's arts grants for people like him Hmm

Datun · 01/04/2017 12:23

I do not have a static sense of my body...

Said a man.
