OK HERE I GO AGAIN! AMERICA IS. A. RAPE. CULTURE. WEATHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT WE ARE A RAPE CULTURE AND MOST PEOPLE DONT RELIZE IT. LADIE, HOW MANY TIMES IN YOUR LIVES HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD TO COVER YOUR BODY SO YOU WONT BE RAPED? OR YOUR SHORTS ARE TO SHORT? OR THAT YOUR NECKLINE PLUNGES TO DEEP? AND HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN TOLD NOT TO RAPE? WE ARE TEACHING OUR YOUTH THAT IS IS THE VICTIMS FAULT! THIS ISNT OK NOT TO MENTION THE "DRUNK FACTOR" ANYONE ELSE NOTICE HOW BEING DRUNK EXCUSES ANYTHING MEN DO BUT IS THE REASON ANYTHING BAD HAPPENS TO US.(E.G "HE ONLY HITS HER WHEN HE'S DRUNK; HES NOT A BAD GUY." AND " SHE WAS DRUNK WHAT'D YOU THINK WAS GONNA HAPPEN?" THIS IS A VERY REALLY AND VERY FUCKING SCARY YET MORE THAN HALF THE POPULATION IS UNAWARE! JOIN ME FELLOW FEMINISTS AND SPREAD THE WORD.

MrsKCastle · 31/03/2017 20:35

Why has no one mentioned lemon cake? Or did I miss it? DD1 makes a fantastic lemon cake, now that it's the Easter holidays I shall set her baking.

Atenco · 31/03/2017 21:29

Oh, sometimes I just love Mumsnet!

picklemepopcorn · 31/03/2017 21:39

Yep, a group of women brought together by shared love of cake.

HelenDenver · 01/04/2017 19:27

You can't mention lemon cake unless you are prepared to punch one, MrsK

picklemepopcorn · 02/04/2017 12:16

I went to a party and there were about seven different sorts of cake... Turkish delight, choc orange, lime coconut, carrot, fruit, chocolate...

HelenDenver · 02/04/2017 12:25

Turkish delight cake!

Kit Kat fences!

Best thread ever!

Did you know, Danish women used cake parties as a cover to organise resistance to the Nazis WW2?

After Denmark was occupied, public meetings were banned. But it was fine to invite people to your house for coffee. So women adopted an existing tradition of throwing elaborate cake parties to provide cover for meeting and plotting against the Nazis.

According to this link, the tradition is to have 7 cakes and 7 types of biscuit or hard cake on the table, many of them brought by the guests, and you have to take a piece of each: a plate of 7 soft cake slices first then a plate of 7 biscuits. Rude not to try them all!

What an amazing tradition, we should do this! Cake

(OK. I admit, I learnt this on Bake Off! Checks out on Google though.)

I have just read this thread - have I entered the twilight zone? I really do not mind if I have but would just like to know.

TalkingintheDark · 02/04/2017 14:38

Love this thread, and love that story othercat! Very apposite somehow. Vive la resistance!

And vive le gateau! Cake

Tartyflette · 02/04/2017 18:15

Aaaand... Back to cake. I had a parsnip cake a few weeks ago, it was very nice, quite like carrot cake but somewhat more, er, parsnippy.
Please DO NOT diss the courgette cake my courgette and choc chip loaf is awesome (even my courgette-hating DB agrees so it must be true) and besides, what the fuck else could I do with the barrow-loads of courgettes that DH grows every summer? have gone through every savoury courgette recipe you could name, and more--
Photo of my cinnamon swirl donut cake. I'm thinking of adding grated courgette to that too next time.
Ooh -- just realised there's a crop of (oilseed) rape planted in the field next to me, wonder if I could make a rape cake to celebrate the fact that rape culture is apparently a myth....

america's rape culture
picklemepopcorn · 02/04/2017 19:19

Drat, did the cake, wine and dancing distract me from the subversion I could have been plotting?? I missed it and thought it was just a birthday party... That'll teach me to pay attention.

lavenderpekins · 02/04/2017 19:55

Appalling spelling

Anniegetyourgun · 02/04/2017 21:02

Is it too late to append an appropriate link? This is of course the very best version of an old classic. It's not cake exactly but, you know...

Hi Darren

On the assumption that you are genuine, if you are a minor who is contemplating suicide, please phone Childline.

They will listen to you.

Here is the phone number

0800 1111

PhoenixJasmine · 08/04/2017 09:12

Darren - it sounds like you are going through a very tough time. But your personal situation has nothing to do with concerns around rape culture; your suffering does not diminish the suffering and concerns of others. You cannot 'guarantee' how anyone else would react in your situation, either, and calling people "priveliged scum" is unlikely to enamour anyone to your cause.

I would respectfully suggest that the feminism chat board of a parenting website might not be the most appropriate place for you to seek support. It very much feels that, whilst you undoubtably deserve to be listened to and supported with what you are dealing with, your anger is misdirected and posting in this fashion is not going to be helpful for you.

PhoenixJasmine · 08/04/2017 09:14

Sources of support available to you include Childine as above, they also have an online live chat service. The Samaritans will also listen and support you, their freecall number is 116123, email [email protected] or text 07725909090

theothercatpurred · 08/04/2017 09:29

Darren, what medication are they withholding from you?
